ID Theory

• Instructional Design Theory is the study of how to best design instruction so that learning will take place

• Examples: ADDIE model, Gagne's events of instruction, Bloom’s taxonomy


• One could say that instructional design theory draws from learning theories.

What is Connectivism?


Connectivism• A learning theory for the digital age

• Connecting specialized nodes or information sources. Knowledge can be stored outside of the brain.

• A learner’s network is invaluable

• This theory is promoted by George Siemens with the University of Manitoba

Challenges• Looking outside of the LMS (learning management system) and

aiding in the development of personal learning networks which promote full participation. MOOCs (massive open online couses)

• Using RRS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds to aggregate information such as blog entries, headlines, scholarly journals, audio, & video

• Incorporate social media to assist with connections | example collaborative tools, readers, twitter & hash tags use

• Demonstrating digital literacy & building authentic networks
