Currently I am working for Web123 as a Motion Graphic Designer and Video Editor. Primarily I am responsible for editing and graphics for over 70+ videos for the online learning portal. Most are tutorials for Graphic Designers wanting to move into the web design industry.

In addition I also create sales promos and advertising to promote the program to potential clients. Primarily I spend majority of my day editing in Premiere and graphics using Aftereffects.

We have our own small studio here so we record all the tutorials ourselves, occasionally after ingesting the video and audio I have to spend some time cleaning up audio and sourcing sound effects. Audio is not something I do a lot but its a fun side of being responsible for creating all the videos.

Doing educational videos has been a new and interesting experience, and as a bonus I’ve been living in the Whitsundays for an endless summer!

For the past 5 years I have been living in London, where I was working as a freelance after effects artist for various agencies. Each job and employer is different , I worked in larger production companies, Inhouse graphics departments and digital advertising agencies. Most recently I was employed at Oktobor in the digital/Interactive department as a Designer, Animator, Editor. I was very excited to be offered the job at Oktobor, it was a dream position for a company with an excellent reputation in both New Zealand and Internationally.

I was employed in the digital department as a designer. I had varying job and was expected to either help out or take sole control of graphic designs for websites, animations, DVDs ,touch screens, motion graphics sequences, and presentations. I worked on wide range of corporate brands for anything from alcohol to telecommunication.

A good proportion of my job was to produce all the AV projects, long format animated informational presentations, DVD authoring, and elements for tradeshows i.e. Video edits for split screens, touch screens, looping animations. Majority of the jobs were long term, from about 4 weeks right through to 6months.

It was great to work for such a large company and was a great experience to work with advertising agencies instead of directly with the client. There was also a lot more creative support than previous positions I’ve had. I worked closely with the Senior Digital Designer and Art Director.

Juice TV is one of the Music channels in New Zealand its plays music 24/7; there was also a secondary channel, J2. I was employed here as the Sole Graphic Designer it was a busy and varied position where the responsibility of the channels overall look and feel was my responsibility. I loved every minute, it was an awesome opportunity to be as creative as I liked within reason..... as long as it appealed to the youth of NZ.

I worked on everything from printed advertisements, to CD commercials, channel promotions, show titles, channel branding, signage, corporate identity, email newsletters, logo design and the odd one or two corporate presentations. The most enjoyable part was creating a brand and a look for the two channels. I would frequently change the whole branding for each season of event i.e. summer, xmas, NZ music month, halloween...

It was challenging to work with a variety of different people, but full filling to see my work come to life on a daily basis. Clients varied from advertising agencies, Record companies, Brand managers, individuals and corporate brands, no two clients were the same. Some clients were overly involved where as others would let me have free rein, a detailed four page brief or an elaborate hand gesture - I had it all.

I loved the creative freedom in this job, having full creative responsibility to create what I liked is rare and I enjoyed every minute. Of course the client has the final say!

I have been employed by ASP design to work on a few different projects over the years. To help create informational presentations for Video and the Web. Primarily the clients were government bodies all with very strong brand guidelines and therefore the end result was always a slick clean design. As with most jobs in the industry the timelines were always tight but it did not reflect in the overall look of the projects.

One Glass Eye is primarily a 3D animation Studio and would employ me to help with 2D motion graphics. Anything from opening titles, logo stings, medical demonstration animations, editing. It was a great place to work and gave me my first taste of motion graphics.

February 2004 - October 2005 I worked as a part time Graphic Designer for a small CHCH web company called eDIY. eDIY is a company that provided a cheap form of web hosting and updating their website by installing a special web editing software. My job here was to create the basic look and fee of the site and upload as an empty skeleton, the customer then adds the content and updates when needed. I was the sole graphic designer and create all the library templates and custom designs for new and existing customers. I also designer any printed artwork required such as CD covers and advertisements.

I was the sole Web designer and handled all web clients form initial meetings through to uploading of the completed website.
