Idea Store Events and Activities

Over the next two months we have a whole host of activities and events for you to enjoy, from storytelling, arts and crafts for children to art exhibitions and author readings. Celebrations include Black History Month and spooky Halloween fun. Whether you’re under five, over fifty or somewhere in between - you’ll find something great going on.

‘Moments Around Us’7 September - 30 SeptemberThe Gallery @ Idea Store Whitechapel presents ‘Moments Around Us’, a painting group show curated by Kate Groobey and Avis Underwood, with participating artists: Laura Bygrave, Kate Groobey, Lucy Homer, Wendy Mclean, Iain Sharpe, Michelle Tocca, Avis Underwood.

Imaginary Worlds [Ages 5-10]Saturday 15 September2:15 - 4:15pmOn the occasion of ‘Moments Around Us’, the concurrent exhibition in the gallery, participating artist Michele Tocca will host a workshop for children. Using painting, drawing and collage, participants will be encouraged to explore the boundaries between dream and reality, playing and learning.

Torgny Wilcke5 October - 4 NovemberExhibition of new work by Danish artist Torgny Wilke, blurring boundaries between painting and the everyday. Made especially for Idea Store and echoing aspects of the building’s architecture, the show will include examples of Wilcke’s ‘walls’ and furniture.

As a result of essential building works on the library’s lift and roof, the building will be closed for the public from the week commencing Monday 10 September 2012.
