  • 1.1 OverviewThe CPU7 processing unit is the heart of the system. It handles system applications(telephone applications, telematic applications, voice mail applications, etc.).The CPU7 board is built around a Pentium III running at 700MHz and cooled by an integratedfan. The board has 256MB of SDRAM.The CPU7 board has no optional daughterboards. OBCA functions require the installation ofan IO2N board.Note:The CPU7 board is intended to replace the CPU5 step3 board.

    1.2 Supported features

    1.2.1 Interface board control

    The CPU7 board controls the interface boards (28 maximum). It ensures the followingfunctions:- Downloading- Synchronizaton clocks- Startup and reset commands

    1.2.2 Drive connection

    1.2.2.1 Hard drive

    The CPU7 board allows the connection of a 2.5-inch IDE hard drive. The hard drive is installedon the CPU7 board.

    1.2.2.2 Floppy disk drive

    The CPU7 board allows the connection of a 3.5-inch floppy disk drive (optional) located on theMMSFD board.

    1.2.3 ISA BUSThe CPU7 board has an ISA bus on the front panel allowing an IO2N board to be connected.An ISAB2 connector board is then required.

    1.2.4 Ethernet connection

    The CPU7 board has:- A half or full duplex 10/100Base T interface for connection to the outside world. This

    interface can be configured using the ethctl tool (see Ethernet management on CPU7

  • board - Overview).- An embedded 10 Mbits/s Ethernet interface intended for traffic between certain ACT

    boards and the CPU or between the two CPUs (main and stand-by). The embeddedinterface can be temporarily enabled or disabled using the ethctl tool (see Ethernetmanagement on CPU7 board - Overview).

    The two Ethernet interfaces are interconnected via a mini-switch on the CPU.Commands entered via the system console allow remote operations to be performed viamodem or RMA. For more information, see Ethernet management on CPU7 board - Overview.

    1.2.5 Software protectionOn the CPU7, the software protection mechanism operates with the CPU identifier.

    1.2.6 CPU redundancyThe CPU7 may be duplicated for enhanced operating safety. For this configuration, both CPUsmust be running the same software version.The remote CPU and its role are detected by software as well as by the backplane clock signal(for the stand-by position).

    1.2.7 COM portsThe CPU7 board has four V24 serial ports:- COMA: this port is used for the system console. It can be accessed directly or via a

    modem.- COMB: this port is used for remote control via the RMA feature.- COMC and COMD: these ports are Or wired ports. They are used for applications (Voice

    mail, Accounting, Hotel, etc.). The Or wired feature automatically connects the applicationconsole to the active (main) CPU. For these two ports, the DSR, DTR, and DCD signalsare not transmitted.

    1.2.8 DECT/PWTThe CPU7 board includes the DTM feature. This feature allows sychronization of the IBS andRBS base stations.

    1.2.9 External music

    The CPU7 board has an input for music-on-hold. The analog signal from the recorder isdigitized according to the A law or mu law depending on the configuration used.

    1.2.10 Tones

    The CPU7 board has ten Q23 or Q23 type tone detectors. Selection of Q23 or Q23x sensitivityis performed by the software.The CPU7 board also has tone generators.

    The RMA feature allows remote reset to be performed.

    1.2.12 Alarms

    The CPU7 board has a relay that changes state when telephony is operational. The relay maybe connected to an alarm unit that emits a warning when the system is no longer operational.

    1.2.13 Line forwardingWhen telephony is not operational, line forwarding allows a trunk to be forwarded to anotherdestination. For example, a T0 trunk group can be forwarded to an S0 station.

    1.2.14 LEDs

    The CPU7 board has two LEDs on the front panel:- Green LED: CPU status indicator- Orange LED: Ethernet 10/100Base T connection activity indicator

    1.2.15 Power supplyThe CPU7 board runs on a 48V DC power supply. Internal AC/DC converters provide thevoltages required by the various components.When the CPU7 board receives the PSAL signal, a procedure is initiated to allow a correctsystem shutdown.The PSAL (Power Supply ALarm or ETI) signal is generated by the PSAL board that monitorspower supply voltage. When power supply voltage falls below 45V, the PSAL signal is set. TheCPU then shuts down.

  • 3.1 ConnectionThe CPU7 board is located in the CPU slot of the main ACT.The position of the CPU slots depends on the type of ACT (refer to the installation manual forthe type of cabinet concerned).CPU7 board installation:
