2. Overview of Dissemination Material / Publicity Activities

2.1 Branding & Logo

The project logo plays an important role in creating the project identity. It is included in all documents, dissemination materials, presentations in events and conferences, and online channels.

Figure 1: The SemaGrow Logo

2.2 Fact Sheet

A fact sheet serves as an “at a glance” way of communicating the overview and the core information of the SemaGrow project. The SemaGrow Fact Sheet presents basic information of the project, such as the involved partners, the Project ID, the Funding Scheme, the Total Cost and the Duration of the project. Moreover, the SemaGrow Fact sheet highlights the Project Vision, the Use Cases as well as the Key Challenges and the overall progress of the project.

2.3 Website

The SemaGrow website (http://www.semagrow.eu) is the main dissemination tool. It was launched in November 2012 and apart from the basic information related to the project and the project partners, website visitors can be informed about all the latest SemaGrow news and events. The website is continuously updated with the results and evolvements of the project as soon as they are realized.

Following a second review recommendation, we have employed Google Analytics to gain insights on website usage and accessibility. The timeframe observed concerns the period from 1 January 2015 until 29 February 2016.

Audience Behaviour: This section gives an overview of the total 9,433 sessions that were opened on the Semagrow website with most users landing on the homepage (Figure 3 (3,050/32.33%)). Out of these visitors 8,220 were unique pageviews by new users (Figure 2).

Time spent on website: During the aforementioned period of time visitors spent an average of 2 minutes 11 seconds

browsing on the website (Figure 2).

Bounce Rate: The bounce rate for the website is 82.45%. This is the percentage of visitors that came to the page and left

without taking further action on the page (Figure 2).

Geographical distribution: The geographical distribution of users primarily stems from the USA (25.76%), non-geographical traffic accounts for 15.05%, followed by Russia (8.32%) and Greece (7.54%) (Figure 4).

Figure 4: Geographical distribution of website visitors (top 10 locations)

The figure shows peaks corresponding to the table shows that the site has been visited by thousands of users beyond the

immediate consortium.

Furthermore, to maximize visibility and provide user and developer documentation, the Knowledge Kit (D7.6) is publicly

accessible through the Github pages under the URL http://semagrow.github.io.

User acquisition: This section indicates the traffic source to the Semagrow website. In a total of 6.246 sessions, as

observed from Figure 5 below, the largest percentage of users stem from referrals (3.855) followed by direct traffic

(1.878) and Google organic search (487) with only a small percentage to have been driven to the website through social

media (26).

3.2 Liaison Meetings and dissemination related to exploitation

Benefiting from its presence at the Conference on Industrial, Engineering & Other Applications of Applied Intelligent

Systems (IEA/AIE2015΄ http://www.ieaaie2015.org) in Seoul, Korea, UNITOV disseminated at the SKKU University of

Seoul results from SemaGrow, especially concerning thesauri development, alignment and evolution, developed in T3.3

/ T3.4. The tools developed/improved in the context of the above tasks have been introduced to the University

department (lead: Prof. Sam Oh) which was considering their adoption both in hands-on sessions of lectures in Digital

Libraries/Semantic Web and for adopting them in research projects.

NCSR-D represented SemaGrow at the Federated Querying Workshop organized by iMinds in Gent on 13 November 2015

(http://workshops.semdev.org/2015/federated-querying-workshop). The workshop brought together several

researchers working on federated querying, aiming to coalesce them into a community. Towards this end, workshop

participants decided to initiate the RDF Query Processing Discussion Forum and to try to establish a regular series of

workshops. A major topic was benchmarking and moving beyond FedBench. NCSR-D presented the SemaGrow rigorous

testing facilities and the LargeRDFBench variation where maximum bandwidth limits are applied based on endpoint

performance from the http://sparqles.ai.wu.ac.at service. Another topic was issues associated with federating data

sources that support extensions of the core SPARQL specification, such as the spatio-temporal geoSPARQL and stSPARQL

extensions. NCSR-D presented the Heterogeneous Data Collections & Streams pilot that federates standard SPARQL and

stSPARQL endpoints. Lessons learned include the interest of the community in an updated benchmark; the SemaGrow

approach of experimenting under throughput limitations was appreciated and encouraged. The community was also

interested in the GIS/data cube federation created for the DLO demonstrator, as an example where data pooling would

not work as well as federation.

DLO presented SemaGrow and its possible end user applications at the Dutch Linked Data network (Platform Linked Open

Data Nederland) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and at the Research Data Alliance, Agricultural Data Interest Group

(IGAD) Pre-Meeting in Paris, France. Moreover, the demonstrators have been disseminated across a wide audience of

agro-environmental researchers at national, European and global scale. It has advertised the benefits of Linked Data and

semantics in general and SemaGrow technology solutions in particular. Linkages were made with relevant networks in

order to further develop the most interesting concepts and applications piloted in SemaGrow. SemaGrow has been

selected by the Dutch Linked Data Platform to be published in a book describing a short-list of illustrative and successful

Linked Data initiatives.

NCSR-D, SWC, AK, and DLO cooperated with PolderHack Productions to jointly organize FutureFoodHack 2015: Creating

Impact with Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition (http://futurefoodhack.nl), Wageningen, 19-21 of January 2015.

Dissemination aspects of this 3rd SemaGrow Hackathon were to disseminate project results to a variety of stakeholders,

including Data Scientists (data handling, analysis, visualisation), Desktop/Web and Mobile Developers, Data Providers,

Designers and Agricultural Domain Specialists.

AK presented SemaGrow and the Linked Open Data Hub demonstrator at the 2015 Workshop of GODAN (Global Open

Data for Agriculture and Nutrition - www.godan.info), titled "Creating Impact with Open Data in Agriculture and

Nutrition", that took place in Wageningen, between 19-21 of January 2015. GODAN is a rapidly growing global initiative,

currently with 169 partners from national governments, non-governmental, international and private sector

organisations.

AK participated to a meeting organised by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA, www.efsa.europa.eu)in Parma,

on13May 2015, with a number of e-infrastructure projects to understand how these can help EFSA processes. AK

presented how agINFRA and SemaGrow can help EFSA and discussed the possibility of a future collaboration.

SWC was one of the organisers of the SEMANTiCS2015 conference, Vienna (http://www.semantics.cc). SemaGrow fact

sheets were placed at the SWC booth. SWC also outreached to its technology partners in the area of semantic data store

development to present to them SemaGrow technology and gauge their interest in investing time and resources to

adopting it.

NCSR-D and SWC organized The power of Linked Data in Agriculture and Food Safety, the final SemaGrow hackathon,

(http://www.semantics.cc/satellite-events/hackathon-power-linked-data-agriculture-and-food-safety) as a satellite

event of SEMANTiCS 2015. The dissemination aspects of this were to disseminate project results to a variety of

stakeholders. The consortium has established contact with two data scientists who tested SemaGrow on their data during

the Hackathon and have interest in further testing. Lessons learned: An interesting new use case has been identified,

where federated querying can be used to overcome policy restrictions on data sharing by commercial entities that are

competitive, but can also benefit by combining their data. SemaGrow use cases have up to now mostly focused on

technical reasons to federate (instead of pooling) data.
