What is dissection?

• Dissection is the process of disassembling and studying internal structure of animal.

Advantages of dissection?!

• Many biology teachers have strong belief that dissection is still the best way to learn biology.

• It gives hands on experience, develops skill and it is learning by doing.

Why to ban dissection?

1. It is cruel, archaic, and environmentally destructive i.e. causes biodiversity loss and ecological imbalance.

2. 19 million insects and animals belonging to a variety of species will be saved every year.

3. Many doctors opposed to dissection in schools because it bears little relation to cutting human body.

4. disease symptoms in artificially controlled animal cannot adequately predict human disease.

5. UGC-India proposes ban on dissection.

What is Digital Dissection?

• Dissecting a virtual animal in computer with use of mouse (ICT) is called digital dissection.

Merits of Digital Dissection

1. We can kill an animal repeatedly; practice many times until we are good at it .

2. Digital Dissections are effective, cheaper, safer, easier & environmentally sound.

3. It doesn't take too long to get familiarised.

4. Digital Frog-2 module, explains the behavior of the frog and its relationship with its environment .

Conclusion

1. Though the wet lab animal dissections has few advantages, it affects ecological balance & also cruel.

2. Since Digital Dissections develops the skill of dissection without killing animals, it is the better alternative / solution.

3. ICT helps to protect animals & nature.
