Marine Corps Warfighting Lab

• What is ICRI– Incident Commanders’ Radio Interface

• A Rapidly Deployable, Coalition Communication Interoperability solution

• This unit performs two primary functions– Distributes audio received from radios to other radios

connected through the unit.– Utilizes the same incoming audio to “key” the other

radios connected to the unit

ICRI

• ICRI provides a rugged, highly portable, radio cross-band (e.g. VHF, UHF, 800MHz), cross platform (e.g. digital/analog, trunked/talk-around,AM/FM) capability for Coalition Operations.

• The device will provide an audio matrix interface between multiple military land mobile radios (LMR) of different types and operating frequencies, and a land-line/ cellular telephone.

Objectives and Payoffs

• OBJECTIVE:• Provide a new avenue of C4 coalition interoperability

concurrent with parallel advancements in Distributed Operations/Small Unit Enhancement.

• Enable increased coalition cooperation across the spectrum of voice and data communications.

• PAYOFF:• Integrated joint and coalition forces at the tactical level.• Enhanced cross-boundary command and control.

Capability- What does it do?

• Works at the audio level – if your radio or phone allows the passage of voice then it’s compatible.

• Interoperability also delivers :

Range extension – e.g.; connect VHF to HF or Satcom.

Simultaneity – All users, no matter what system they use, hear the same message simultaneously

Switching – Switch facilities or connected nets on or off according to your need

Remote Site Working – Dial up the ICRI, establish and drop links as required.
