In conclusion, the MSC-W model is an important tool to identify areas where N and S deposition may affect forest ecosystems, but is less precise at the highest or lowest deposition levels.

Local measurement of deposition values is needed if high precision data (better than 50% on average) is requested, as needed for case studies on forest ecological processes, aimed at the Level II ICP Forests monitoring network.

Finally, the use of the ICP Forests quality control procedures allowed us to select reliable data and the inclusion of some post-submission validation procedures in the ICP Forests database is strongly recommended [cf. discussion about 2nd or processed layer in ICP Forests database]
