Dear members, colleagues and friends,
Every three years, ICOMʼs General Conference gathers the international museum community around a theme defined by museum professionals. More than 3,000 experts and museum professionals meet for a whole week to exchange on museum-related topics, encompassing scientific discussions with ICOMʼs International Committees and conversations on current pressing issues in the museum and heritage sphere. This year, ICOMʼs 24th General Conference will take place in Milan, Italy, from July 3-9, 2016.
The theme of the ICOM Milano 2016 General Conference is MUSEUMS and CULTURAL LANDSCAPES.
ICMEMO, The International Committee of Memorial Museums in Remembrance of the Victims of Public Crimes invites you to participate in its 2016 Conference within the context of ICOM Milan 2016 General Conference to explore the relationship between museums and memorials and cultural landscapes.
Speakers, eminent in their fields, will join us from all over the world: Chile, Kazakhstan, Argentina, Mexico, Yugoslavia, Poland, U.K., Germany, Russia, Japan, China, Spain, U.S., Ukraine, Turkey… to discuss topics such as Dark Tourism: Ethics & Education, Dictatorships in Latin America and Eastern Europe, the Reproducibility of Memorial Heritage...
To further understand and explore the theme of the conference, we will have off-site visits guided by museum directors and renowned architect to Fossoli Camp, Carpi Museum, Museo Diffuso, Museo della Resistencia, as well as to the towns of Modena and Torino...
ICMEMO is one of 31 International Committees within ICOMʼs network of 35,000 museum professionals from 136 countries.
The ICOM Milan 2016 General Conference presents a large array of cultural and professional opportunities and should not be missed by anyone interested in museums.
