The site that we have chosen to initiate a small construction project is located behind the basketball court at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. It is a 20m x 20m site where it is overgrown with weeds and will form water puddles after rain.

Site Analysis3

Page 4: Ici final project

The site located behind the basketball court is rather dangerous as it could be a habitat to the mosquitoes, which may result in the spread of dengue disease if no proper action is taken.

The reason why we chose the site to as a dining area is because we acknowledged that it is quite far for people to go to the nearest restaurant from there (basketball court). The nearest restaurant would be Block A – Block E‘s restaurant. So, we think that it would be convenient if we have a food and beverage dining area near the basketball court and also the futsal court. Other than that, the students can also gain shelter during heavy rains.

ObjectiveTo allow students that plays basketball, futsal, tennis or even people who are waiting for their friends to finish their practice to gain access easily on food and beverage in a more convenient way.

We plan to provide sports drinks, healthy food and beverage restaurants such as fresh juice, protein shakes, energy drinks, organic foods and etc. Toilet will also be provided as the students don’t have to walk back to the campus just to empty their bladder or to wash their hands.

The building will be constructed with a roof as students could be sheltered during the rainy weather while having their food and beverage.

ConceptTo create a better environment and accessibility in food and beverages for the students. To improve comfort, the environment and as a shelter from rain.

Benefits4

What benefits is it to build a food and beverage place near the multipurpose hall ?

I . People who are playing sports in the multipurpose hall such as futsal , basketball , volleyball or etc always tend to feel thirsty after their game , some even feel hungry and they are only given a vending machine which provides few variation types of drinks . Except going to vending machine to have a drink , people have to go all the way back to campus to buy a energy drink or fruit juice to boost up their day . Instead of having few variation of drinks on the vending machine or walking all the way to campus , we want people to feel more convenient while having sports activity in campus . When they feel tired , they could always stop by our food and beverage store to get some drinks . We sell energy drink to boost up energy for people who plays in the multi purpose hall . As for some people , they feel hungry after their sports activity , it is a must for people to walk all the way to the campus to get food . But if we have our store there , people don’t have to walk all the way there just to get food . People could just come to our store to have their breakfast , lunch or even dinner .

II . As for some people that are waiting for their friends to finish their game , it is better to have a place to sit on than sitting around the multi purpose hall with the floor of dirt . we are also air-conditioned in our restaurant so that people could wait their friends on a comfortable circumstances . Instead of waiting at the hot platform around the multi purpose hall with no accompany of food and beverage , why not just dine in our restaurant and have a comfortable place to wait while having healthy food or drinks ?

Building Design

6

Page 7: Ici final project

By going through many research online, we have finalized our building’s design as shown above. It has the feeling of origami as it was inspired by pictures of paper folding.

The building will be approximately 50m tall with geometric windows and glass doors . As for the height of the building , it wont be too short so that people could know it’s existence or too tall and block the other structures nearby . It was made with geometric window and glass doors to make it visually more attractive .

Floor Plan

The building that we propose is a 20m x 20m building with proper roofing.

In this building, there will be a total of 2 main restaurants, 3 smaller shops, and also both female and male toilets. In every shops or restaurants, there will be a kitchen provided which varies in size depending on the size of the lot. Dining areas are provided for all restaurants except for the smaller shops where it only provide takeaway services. But even so, students can still enjoy their food or beverages by sitting at some provided seats outside the restaurants.

The toilet provided are well furnished with proper piping systems. A wall in between the restaurant and the toilet acts as a divider to provide a more hygienic dining area for the students.

Zoning8

As shown in the legend on the right, the colour coding well describe the distribution of the space in the building which contains counter area , kitchen , dining area , toilet and walkway .

Circulation Plan
