Coaching the Distance – Increase Your Impact with Communication Technology Awareness 2013 ICF Midwest Regional Conference June 20 - 22

description

Coaching the distance – Increase your Impact with Communication Technology Awareness The coaching community invests in the conference to connect to like minded people who love coaching and want to know more. The session will group them into teams where they can call upon each other to experience their first attempts at new technology. They may need help in walking through the steps. But instead of depending on their family members for technical guidance and support, they now connect with someone from the coaching community and will learn along the way. After the session they will be invited to an additional free-of-charge session where they can acutally use the technology in real time with their own computer and Internet connection in their office. This session will provide an overview and some detail in two areas: 1. Tools and Communiction Technology: what is available in the virtual world? How can coaches benefit from the latest developments in communication technology? What should you use and what shouldn't you use? How can you differentiate yourself from other coaches? This section has two aspects: first we will describe how coaching conversations benefit from video and collaboration tools, such as Cisco webex, Adobe Connect, GoToWebinar, and others. Second, we will provide a toolkit that helps coaches to be present and active in the Internet, such as file sharing in the cloud, instant messaging, blogs, social business networks, on-demand training, and more. We will provide live demonstrations for both sections, so attendees get a look and feel of the functionality. (This assumes we have Internet connectivity. Alternatively, we will record demos in advance). 2. Communication aspects of global coaching: tools are only a vehicle, just as the phone was in the past. Once a connection between a coach and a client has been setup, it requires the full set of coaching competencies to create a trusted environment for the client. How do you establish a trusted relationship in a virtual room? How can high-definition video help to build trust faster? What should be considered when coaching globally? We will start with simple challenges such as time zones and drill deeper into other underlying aspects. Session flow: The session will begin with the story of "coaching the distance" between Germany and the US. We will start the interactions with a call to the audience to tell us what technology software they use today and what their level of acceptance is - both for themselves and for their clients. Then we will poll what software they would like to use. The results of this query will show the variety and literally impossible mountain climb in the technology camp. How do we tackle this dilemma? Then the attendees will be asked to self assess their techno savvy. They’ll be invited to meet at table groups (or stand in the aisles) in order to bring balance between stronger technologist and less savvy technologist and start the tec
