Bang & Olufsen ICEpower a/sAiming for ideal audio power conversion, the newly established company, Bang &Olufsen ICEpower a/s has already come far.

As the result of many years of fundamental research within the field of audio powerconversion, Bang & Olufsen ICEpower a/s was founded in 1999. The hard work wasturned into technology platforms and the exploration of a wide range of ICEpowerapplications could begin.

For the first time in the 75-year of Bang & Olufsen history, a private person has beengranted joint ownership. This joint venture between Bang & Olufsen a/s and theICEpower inventor, Ph.D. Karsten Nielsen, is the perfect combination. The establishedorganization with its experience and well-known quality products turns the ideas ofthe young entrepreneurial scientist into reality.

Bang & Olufsen ICEpower a/s is reality and the lines are drawn for furtherrevolutionary research and development. Successfully, the first audio power amplifierproducts have been marketed, and Bang & Olufsen ICEpower a/s is moving closertowards the vision for ICEpower to be used everywhere!

The innovator Bang & Olufsen ICEpower a/s aim to revolutionize the world of audio power conversion through technological leadership. Today, audio power conversion is dominated by old inefficient technologies for power supply design, audio amplification, andelectric to acoustic power conversion. The efficiency from the mains input to the acoustic output can be 1/10,000 at normal outputlevels in a typical audio product, leading to excessive heat development and numerous related drawbacks, including compromiseson sound quality. A paradigmic change in the audio power conversion chain requires fundamental rethinking on how to convertand control power.

Founded on a vision of changing the future, Bang & Olufsen ICEpower a/s strive for such a paradigmic change in the industry bycreating Intelligent, Compact and Efficient audio power conversion technologies and products.

ICEpower UniversityBeing at the cutting edge of technology requires the best minds. A closecooperation with the Technical University of Denmark, which is located just a milefrom our premises, has resulted in the ICEpower University, training the minds forthe future.

Since 1994, the ICEpower University has been a core element in solving the mostcomplex riddles in audio power conversion as an integrated part of our R&Ddepartment. The close cooperation is the very core of ICEpower technologydevelopment. ICEpower AnalogICEpower Analog is based on an analog modulation method.The heart of the technology is a combination of two newprinciples named Controlled Oscillation Modulation (COM) andMultivariable Enhanced Cascade Control (MECC). Together, the

COM and the MECC form the intelligent power processing“brain” of the technology. ICEpower Analog is a versatiletechnology offering industry-leading performance on allrelevant parameters from milliwatt to kilowatt.

ICEpower DigitalICEpower Digital is a unique technology integrating digitalinterface, PCM to PWM conversion, and control system.ICEpower Digital is the first digital modulation-based systemincorporating highly efficient power stage error correction,securing state-of-the-art performance.

ICEpower incorporates various proprietary algorithms,including our Weighted Pulse Width Modulation (WPWM)method. The proprietary control system Pulse Edge Delay Error

Correction (PEDEC) secures high digital performance throughthe entire chain of complex power conversion elements. Finally,we have developed an Intelligent Volume Control (IVC) methodin order to overcome the dynamic range limitations, offeringdynamic range performance up to 140dB.

ICEpower ProfessionalICEpower Professional has been developed for the professionalaudio market. The technology is highly suitable for poweramplification in the kW range, by implementing an efficiencyof up to 96% in 8 ohm loading.

ICEpower Professional is based on our proprietary BalancedPhase Shifted Carrier Pulse Width Modulation (BPSCPWM). Theadvantages of COM modulation have been translated intomulti-level modulation in terms of a modulation and controlmethod we call Synchronized Controlled Oscillation

Modulation (SCOM). Like COM, SCOM provides additionalbenefits compared with using conventional carrier basedmodulation. ICEpower Professional generates multi-level,common mode free outputs allowing the power stage tooperate at very low switching frequencies.

Although ICEpower Professional is a versatile technology, itproves to be extraordinary advantageous in power ranges from500W to 10kW.

ICEpower AutomotiveThe automotive environment has very special requirements.Power processing starts from the battery voltage. Due to verydistinct EMI requirements, we have developed a dedicatedautomotive platform, converting power from the battery tothe audio output.

The ICEpower Booster technology is completely dedicated todrive the ICEpower amplifiers. Furthermore, the dedication tothe application secures a highly integrated and optimizedtechnology.

The System Business Unit (SBU) offers turn-key solutions according to customerrequirements in e.g. audio performance, power level, electrical and mechanicalarchitecture, feature set etc. - any differentiation is possible.
