Carnival 2011 – Ride Until You Drop!

The weather for this year’s Carnival was just about perfect and the crowds were as big as ever. We, again, set a new all-time record for the num-ber of young people wearing ride bracelets. As a result, families spent a great deal of time both out on the midway and under the pavilion sharing in the community fellowship experience. That is always our primary goal. The economy, in general, and gasoline prices, in particular, are a concern to everyone. As a result of these concerns, our sales were down in some areas. However, when all the bills are paid, this year’s carnival will still be a great financial success. The key to that success is the support you give. The hundreds of volunteers who make the carnival work and the thousands who come to join us in the celebration allow those good num-bers to happen. We thank you all for participating. Every year we schedule the Carnival so that it does not interfere with the celebration of Easter. Carnival 2012 will run from April 19-22nd. Mark your calendars!

God Bless you all, Paul and Norma Hunter Carnival Chairmen (a.k.a. Mr. & Mrs. Clown)

GET REAL! Those of us who flatter ourselves that we have a “realistic” view of the world may listen to the first reading today and say, “Get real!” when we hear Luke’s account of the early, Elysian days of the Christian movement. All seems to be rosy, lots of wonders are performed, everyone shares selflessly, they eat together in “exultation,” and the Lord added to their numbers? Well, who wouldn’t be attracted to a group like this? From the wind that swept through the upper room at Pentecost as the Spirit of God blew over the face of the waters in Genesis, and the fire that appeared over each disciple as the light appeared at the dawn of creation, Luke’s intent in Acts is to show a new creation, a restoration of creation’s original goodness through the working of the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit who continues to make us into the Body of Christ. We may occasionally, like Thomas in the Gospel, say, “Get real!” but our ultimate reality in the Spirit is to work continually to make our Christian community a new creation, one in which others will find God’s joy and beauty. © Copyright, J. Blessed John Paul II

This Sunday, May 1, 2011, the man who canonized more saints than any other pope in modern history will be one step closer to sainthood himself when he becomes “Blessed John Paul II.” The actual beatification ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, May 1, in St. Peter's Square. The beatification of Pope John Paul II comes on a rare fast track just six years following his death.

Juan Pablo II
