This manual contains instructions for installing, configuring, andtroubleshooting the IBM

®Rapid Access™ Wireless Keyboard, IBM ScrollPoint™

Wireless Mouse, and the IBM Dual Wireless Receiver. The manual is dividedinto two parts:

This section contains a product description, hardware and software installationinstructions, and product use and maintenance information for the IBM RapidAccess Wireless Keyboard, ScrollPoint Wireless Mouse, and Dual WirelessReceiver. For information on troubleshooting, see Appendix A. For additionalinformation on using this product, visit the IBM Healthy Computing Web siteat:

Product description

The IBM Rapid Access Wireless Keyboard and ScrollPoint Wireless Mouseprovide wireless access to your most commonly used keyboard and mousetasks. There are two buttons for navigating through Web pages, seven buttonsfor multimedia control, and eight color-coded buttons, several of which arepreset to useful Web sites.

In addition to this book, this option package contains the following:

You can use the Quick Start card instructions to install the software, connectyour keyboard, mouse, and receiver. The following sections provide moredetailed installation instructions.

Getting started

Before installing the Rapid Access Wireless Keyboard, ScrollPoint Mouse, andDual Wireless Receiver, do the following:

1. Turn off your computer and all attached devices.

2. Insert new, alkaline AAA batteries into the Rapid Access Wireless Keyboardand ScrollPoint Wireless Mouse.

3. Connect the Dual Wireless Receiver to a USB port.

Installing the USB, keyboard, and mouse

The following sections describe how to install the Rapid Access WirelessKeyboard, ScrollPoint Mouse, and Dual Wireless Receiver.

Installing the USB receiver

To install the Dual Wireless Receiver, do the following:

1. Plug the receiver into your computer’s USB port.

2. Start your computer.

3. Click Next on all the prompts.

4. Click Finish in the final prompt.

Microsoft Windows Millennium (Me) and Windows 2000 Professional willautomatically recognize the USB receiver. Windows 98 will require manualprompting.

Installing the keyboard and mouseThe keyboard and mouse will be automatically recognized once the receiver isinstalled.

To check that the keyboard and mouse are being recognized, do the following:

1. Press the Windows key�1� on your keyboard to confirm functionality.

2. Move the mouse �2� to confirm movement on the display screen.

3. If either device is not recognized, see Appendix A for trouble shootingprocedures.

Changing the USB receiver channels

To confirm and change the channels on your USB dual receiver, do thefollowing:

1. Make sure the USB connector �1� is properly inserted into your computer.

2. Press one of the blue buttons, �2� or �3�, on the bottom of the DualWireless Receiver.

3. Note that the device icon LED will be on.

4. Press the blue button on the bottom of the Dual Wireless Receiver thatcorresponds to the device icon (shown above as mouse �2�, keyboard �3�).

5. The LED flashes off.

6. Press the Windows key on your keyboard or move the mouse to confirmfunctionality.

7. Repeat the above steps for the other device.

Installing the software

To install the software, do the following:

1. Click Start.

2. Select Run.

3. Type x:\setup, where x is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.

4. The keyboard setup program begins. You will be prompted for selections.

5. Click Next.

6. Click Next.

7. Click Finish.

8. The mouse setup program begins. You will be prompted for selections.

9. Click Next.


10. Select the position of the mouse, either to the right or the left of yourmonitor, whether you are right- or left-handed. Click Next.

11. Click Next.

12. Click Finish.

Using the Rapid Access buttons

The Rapid Access Wireless Keyboard contains quick launch buttons, commonlycalled “hot buttons.” This section contains information on using these buttons.

The keyboard in the previous illustration has the following button features:

v An Internet button, a Standby button, and five buttons that you cancustomize to access a file, program, or Web site.

v A plastic cover that holds the button label.

v Multimedia control buttons that you can use to control playback and adjustvolume on audio CDs and some DVDs.

v A Mute button that you can use to mute audio playback.

v A button that navigates forward through Web pages in an Internet browser.

v A button that navigates backward through Web pages in an Internetbrowser.

Customizing the keyboard buttonsThe first time you press one of the customizable buttons, the. window opensand prompts you to follow the on-screen instructions to customize the buttons.You can customize each of the five buttons for use as a shortcut to a computerprogram, a file, or a Web site.

To change the customization of your Rapid Access Buttons at a later time, openthe customization window using the following procedure:

1. Click Start --> Settings --> Control Panel.

2. Double-click Keyboard (Rapid Access) to open the Rapid Access WirelessKeyboard Customization window. If a program has already been assignedto a button, the program name appears in the label area above that buttonon the screen. If a program has not been assigned to a button, the label areaabove the button will be blank.

3. Click the button you want to customize.

4. Click one of the following options:v View all programsv View all filesv Enter Internet address

5. If you clicked View all programs or View all files, click the desiredprogram or file. If you clicked Enter Internet address, type the Internetaddress of a Web site into the box.


Note: If you enter a Web site address into the box, you can verify that it iscorrect by clicking Test. You must be connected to an Internet ServiceProvider or an Intranet to use the Test function.

The name of the selected program, file, or Web site appears in the labelbox. You can edit the information in the label box.

6. Click Apply. The information for your selection appears in the label areaabove the button.

7. To customize another button, repeat the steps above. If you have completedcustomizing the buttons, click OK.

After you have customized any buttons, you can use the Rapid AccessKeyboard software to create a new button label.

Labeling the buttonsYou might want to change the button label at the top of the keyboard if youhave changed the file, program, or Web site assigned to a customizable button.When you use the Rapid Access Wireless Keyboard Customization window tochange a button assignment, the software automatically creates a new buttonlabel.

To print the new button label, do the following:

1. Be sure paper is in the printer, and the printer is turned on.

2. Follow steps 1 and 2 in Customizing the Rapid Access Buttons on page 1-4to open the Rapid Access Wireless Keyboard Customization window.

3. Click Print Label... to open the Rapid Access Keyboard Print Labelwindow.

4. Click the check box for black text on a white background or the check boxfor white text on a black background.

5. Click OK.

6. Select the correct printer in the Print window and click OK.

7. When the label has been printed, review the label information; then cut thelabel to the correct size.

Note: You do not need to remove the clear plastic cover at the top of thekeyboard when you replace a label.

To replace the button label at the top of the keyboard, do the following:

1. Grasp the middle of the old label near the cover indent and slide the oldlabel out from under the clear plastic cover.

2. Slide the new printed label under the clear plastic cover. You might need totrim the edges of the label so that it fits under the cover.


Customizing the on-screen display

The Rapid Access Wireless Keyboard comes with the on-screen display settingenabled. When the on-screen display is enabled, the name of a function orprogram assigned to a Rapid Access Button briefly displays on the screenwhen you press the button.

You can use the Rapid Access Wireless Keyboard software to make changes tothe on-screen display, and to either disable or enable the display.

Changing the on-screen displayTo change the font, the font size, or the font color used in the on-screendisplay, do the following:


2. Click Preferences to open the Rapid Access Preferences window.

3. Click Font.

4. In the Font dialog box, select the preferred settings then click OK.

5. Click OK.

6. Click OK to exit the program.

Disabling the on-screen displayTo disable the on-screen display, do the following:


2. Click Preferences to open the Rapid Access Keyboard Preferences window.

3. Under On-Screen Display toggle Disable.

4. Click OK.

Enabling the on-screen displayTo enable the on-screen display, do the following:


2. Click Preferences to open the Rapid Access Keyboard Preferences window.

3. Under On-Screen Display toggle Enable.

4. Click OK.

Disabling Rapid Access Buttons

The keyboard comes with the Rapid Access Buttons already enabled. Todisable the buttons, do the following:


1. Follow steps 1 and 2 in Customizing the Rapid Access Buttons on page 1-4to open the Rapid Access Keyboard Customization window.

2. Click Preferences to display the Rapid Access Buttons Preference window.

3. Under Rapid Access Buttons toggle Disable.

4. Click OK.

Maintaining the keyboard

You can prevent damage to your keyboard or computer by properlymaintaining the keyboard. For basic maintenance guidelines to care for yourkeyboard, do the following:

v Unplug the keyboard before cleaning.

v Clean the keyboard with a soft cloth moistened with a solution of water andmild soap.

v Do not spill liquids on the keyboard. Liquids might damage your keyboardor cause it to function improperly.

For more information about labeling the buttons, setting up preferences, settingup your work area, and troubleshooting, click the Help button at the bottom ofthe Rapid Access Wireless Keyboard Customization window.

Customizing the ScrollPoint Wireless Mouse

To customize the ScrollPoint Wireless Mouse, do the following:

1. Double-click My Computer.

2. Double-click Control Panel.

3. Double-click the Mouse icon to open the Mouse Properties Window.

4. Click the setting tab at the top of the Mouse Properties window and makechanges in the setting window that opens.

Customizing each windowThe following sections describe how to customize settings for each window.

ButtonsThe Buttons window is where you can customize the functions of the buttonsand the mouse stick. To customize the buttons and the mouse stick, do thefollowing:

1. Select the mouse stick or a button by clicking it in the graphic of the mouseor by selecting it in the Button pull-down menu.

2. From the Function pull-down menu, select the function that you want toassign to the stick or a button.

3. YOu must designate a t least one button as the Primary Mouse Button.

4. Click OK or Apply.


5. If you want to reset to the default setting for the mouse buttons and themouse stick, click Use Default.

PointersThe Pointers window is where you can select a cursor icon scheme for themouse pointing functions. To customize the cursor icon scheme fro the mousepointing functions, do the following:

1. From the Scheme pull-down menu, select a cursor icon scheme.

2. If you want to change the default name of the scheme, go to the next step.


MotionThe Motion window is where you can change the pointer speed or customizethe pointer to automatically go to the default button in a window. To changethe pointer speed, do the following:

1. In the Pointer speed panel, place the cursor on the slider.

2. Drag the slider to the left to make the pointer speed slower or to the rightto make the pointer speed faster.


To customize the pointer to automatically go to the default button in awindow, do the following:

1. Place a check in the Snap mouse to the default button in dialogs checkbox.


Double-ClickThe Double-Click window is where you can change the double-click speed forthe mouse. To change the double-click speed for the mouse, do the following:

1. In the Double-Click Speed panel, place the cursor on the slider.

2. Drag the slider to the left to make the double-click speed slower or to theright to make the double-click speed faster.

3. You can test the double-click speed by double-clicking the icon in the TestArea panel.


OrientationThe Orientation window is where you can change the orientation of the mouse.The default orientation for the scrolling mouse is vertical, with the buttons atthe top. If you want to hold the mouse in a different position, do thefollowing:

1. Click Set Orientation.

2. Follow the on-screen instructions.



ScrollPointThe ScrollPoint window is where you enable the Universal Scrolling mode. TheScrollPoint window is also where you can adjust the scrolling speed, adjust theactivation force for the mouse, and enable 360° scrolling.

To change the scrolling speed for the mouse, do the following:

1. In the Scroll Speed panel, place the cursor on the slider.

2. Use the cursor to drag the slider to the left to make the scrolling speedslower or to the right to make the scrolling speed faster.


To change the force needed to click or double-click with the mouse, do thefollowing:

1. In the Activation force panel, place the cursor on the slider.

2. Use the cursor to drag the slider to the left so that less force is required orto the right so that more force is required to initiate scrolling.


The 360°-scrolling feature enables you to move the pointer diagonally,horizontally, or vertically. To enable the 360°-scrolling feature, place a check inthe Enable 360 Degree Scrolling check box and then click OK or Apply.

Pointer UtilityThe Pointer Utility window is where you can customize the followingfunctions for the pointer:

v Pointer Wrap

If you want the point to reappear on the other side of the computer screenwhen it reaches the edge of one side of the screen, place a check in thePointer Wrap check box and then click OK or Apply.

v Pointer Vanish

If you do not want the pointer to display when you are typing in text, placea check in the Pointer Vanish check box, and then click OK or Apply.

v Sonar

If you want help finding a pointer on the screen, place a check in the Sonarcheck box. After clicking OK or Apply, press and release the Ctrl key to usethe Sonar function to surround the pointer with a radar screen-type circle.

v Slow Motion

If you want to slow down the pointer movement temporarily to position thepointer more precisely, place a check in the Slow Motion check box. Afterclicking OK or Apply, press and hold the Shift key to use the Slow Motionfunction.

v X Focus


If you want to make a window active by moving the pointer over the titlebar, place a check in the X Focus check box, and then click OK or Apply.The X Focus function enables you to move the pointer from window towindow without clicking.

Mouse SuiteIn the Mouse Suite window, you can place a mouse icon in the taskbar,uninstall the mouse Suite software, or go to the IBM Web site for moreinformation on the mouse.

To place a mouse icon in the taskbar, place a check in the Show Mouse Icon inTask Bar check box, and then click OK.

To uninstall the Mouse Suite software, click Uninstall.

To visit the IBM Web site for more information on the mouse, click thedisplayed Internet address.

Cleaning the mouseIf the cursor skips or moves erratically, you might need to clean the mouse. Toclean the mouse, do the following:

1. Turn off the computer


2. Turn the mouse over, with the top side down, and look carefully at thebottom. Twist the retainer �1�ring to the unlocked position to remove theball.

3. Place your hand over the retainer ring and ball �2�, and then turn themouse over, top side up, so that the retainer ring and ball fall out into yourhand.

4. Wash the ball in warm, soapy water then dry it with a clean cloth. Blow aircarefully into the ball-cage�4�to dislodge dust and lint.

5. Look for a build-up of dirt on the plastic rollers �3� inside the ball-cage.This build-up usually appears as a stripe running across the middle of therollers.

6. If the rollers are dirty, clean them by using a cotton swab soaked inisopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Turn the rollers with your finger and continueswabbing them until all the dirt is removed. Be sure the rollers are stillcentered in their channels after you clean them.

7. Remove any fibers from the swab that might be remaining on the rollers.

8. Replace the ball and the retainer ring.

9. Turn your computer back on.


Appendix A. Troubleshooting

Computer problems can be caused by hardware, software, or user error. Youmight be able to use the information in this section to solve problems yourself,or gather helpful information you can pass on to a service technician.

Common Problems

Review the following list for any problem descriptions that might fit yoursituation.

You cannot find the selection you are looking for when youcustomize the Rapid Access ButtonsIf you are customizing your Rapid Access Buttons and cannot find theselection you want, such as your Internet browser or word processor, reviewthe list of options displayed on the customization screen.

Be sure to click View all programs in the Rapid Access KeyboardCustomization window. When you select this option, you see the list of allfolders and programs that are displayed when you click Start --> Programs.You might have to open one or more folders to view a program.

If you still do not see a desired program, click View all files in the RapidAccess Keyboard Customization window. When you select this option, a list ofall drives, folders, and files on your system is displayed.

The Standby button does not work correctly.Your computer must have Windows 98 or Windows 95 Version 4.00.950B orlater, with hardware support for Advanced Power Management (APM) Level1.1 or greater, for the Standby button to work correctly.

If your computer shuts down when you press the Standby button, but doesnot return to full power when you press the button a second time, or ifnothing happens when you press the button, your power-managementsoftware might not support the Suspend option.

To find out if your computer supports the Suspend option, click the Standbybutton to see if the Suspend option is displayed. If a Suspend option is listed,try selecting it. If the Suspend option works, your computer will go into alow-power mode, it will return to normal power when you press the Standbybutton again or when you move the mouse. If the Suspend option does notwork when you select it from the Start menu, the Standby button will not

work either. If the Suspend option does not work, you might need to modifyyour computer power-management settings.

To modify your computer power management settings:


2. Double-click Power.

For more information about your computer power-management settings, checkthe documentation that comes with your computer.

The Help button does not work correctly.If the Help button does not start Windows help, be sure that Windows helpwas installed on your computer. From the Start menu, click Help. If youcannot access Help, it might not have been installed. Refer to your Windowsdocumentation for information on installing new components.

The CD/DVD, Volume, or Mute control buttons do not work.The CD/DVD volume and mute control buttons on the keyboard will workonly with computers that have audio software and a sound card.

If you have audio software that did not come from or if you installed yourown audio software, the audio software program might not be compatible withthe keyboard. Close your audio software and press the CD/DVD buttonsagain. Pressing the buttons automatically opens the Windows CD Player or theWindows DVD software. If the buttons work with the Windows CD Player orDVD software but not with your audio software, your audio software is notcompatible with the keyboard.

To verify that your computer has a sound card or that the sound card isworking correctly, test an audio CD using the Windows CD Player program.

To test an audio CD:

1. Start Windows.

2. Insert the audio CD into the computer CD-ROM drive.

3. Click Start --> Programs.

4. Select Accessories.

5. Select Multimedia.

6. Click CD Player.

If you do not have a sound card or if the sound card is not detected, you willreceive an error message indicating that there is a problem with the soundcard. For more information on your sound card, see the documentation thatcomes with your computer or sound card.

None of the Rapid Access Buttons work.If none of the hot buttons are working, be sure that they are enabled in thePreferences menu in the Rapid Access Keyboard software.

To enable the Rapid Access Buttons, do the following:


2. Double-click Keyboard (Rapid Access) to open the Rapid Access Keyboardsoftware.

3. Click Customize to open the Customization window.

4. Click Preferences in the Rapid Access Keyboard Customization window.

5. Check to see if the Rapid Access Keyboard is enabled.

6. Check other keys on the keyboard. If the other keys are not working, reloadthe software.

7. Check the batteries. You might need to replace them.

8. Change the channel on the device. The channel might not be set or theremight be signal interference from another device.

If your keyboard buttons still do not work, be sure that the keyboard isproperly connected to the computer. For more information on connecting thekeyboard, see the previous sections of this user guide.

Your computer game locks up or is interrupted when youuse the Rapid Access Buttons.The onscreen display for the Rapid Access Buttons might interfere with somecomputer games. If your computer games are not functioning correctly whenyou use the Rapid Access Buttons, disable the onscreen display. Forinstructions on disabling the onscreen display, see the previous sections of thisuser guide.

You press a button once, but the computer responds as ifyou pressed it twice.You might need to change your keyboard Repeat delay or Repeat rate settings.

To change the Repeat delay or Repeat rate settings:


2. Double-click Keyboard (not Keyboard (Rapid Access)).

3. Click the Speed tab for Repeat delay or for Repeat rate.

4. Move the Repeat delay slider to the side labeled Long or the Repeat rateslider to Slow.

You are experiencing poor keyboard performanceIf you are experiencing poor performance of the keyboard or the loss ofcharacters, try one of the following:

1. You might have weak batteries and might need to replace them.

2. You might need to change the channel on the keyboard due to interferencefrom other device signals.

3. You might need to relocate the keyboard or replace the desk with anon-metallic desk. You might relocate the receiver above the metal desk ormove it away from large, metal objects.

4. The keyboard and receiver might be too far apart. Make sure that thekeyboard and receiver are no more that 6 feet (2 meters) apart.

You are experiencing poor mouse performanceIf you are experiencing poor performance of the mouse or the cursor skips, tryone of the following:

1. Clean the mouse ball and ball cage. Refer to the Mouse Suite Help underthe menu Start-->Settings-->Control Panel--Mouse.

2. You might need to replace weak or old batteries.

3. You might need to change the channel on the mouse due to interferencefrom other device signals.

4. If the mouse is located on or near a metal desk or large metal object, youmight need to relocate the mouse.

5. The mouse and receiver might be too far apart. Make sure that the mouseand receiver are no more that 6 feet (2 meters) apart.


Your keyboard or mouse data transmission LED isconstantly illuminated on the Dual Wireless Receiver.If the transmission LED is constantly illuminated on the Dual WirelessReceiver, you can try the following:

1. There might be signal interference from another device.

2. Change the channel on the keyboard or mouse.

The mouse does not move the cursor.If the mouse does not move the cursor, do the following:

1. Change the batteries in the mouse.

2. Change the channel on the mouse.

Warranty Service

IBM or your reseller provides certain types of repair and exchange service,either at your location or at a service center, to keep Machines in, or restorethem to, conformance with their Specifications. IBM or your reseller willinform you of the available types of service for a Machine based on its countryof installation. IBM may repair the failing Machine or exchange it at itsdiscretion.

When warranty service involves the exchange of a Machine or part, the itemIBM or your reseller replaces becomes its property and the replacementbecomes yours. You represent that all removed items are genuine andunaltered. The replacement may not be new, but will be in good working orderand at least functionally equivalent to the item replaced. The replacementassumes the warranty service status of the replaced item.

Any feature, conversion, or upgrade IBM or your reseller services must beinstalled on a Machine which is 1) for certain Machines, the designated,serial-numbered Machine and 2) at an engineering-change level compatiblewith the feature, conversion, or upgrade. Many features, conversions, orupgrades involve the removal of parts and their return to IBM. A part thatreplaces a removed part will assume the warranty service status of theremoved part.

Before IBM or your reseller exchanges a Machine or part, you agree to removeall features, parts, options, alterations, and attachments not under warrantyservice.

You also agree to1. ensure that the Machine is free of any legal obligations or restrictions that

prevent its exchange;2. obtain authorization from the owner to have IBM or your reseller service a

Machine that you do not own; and3. where applicable, before service is provided

a. follow the problem determination, problem analysis, and service requestprocedures that IBM or your reseller provides,

b. secure all programs, data, and funds contained in a Machine,c. provide IBM or your reseller with sufficient, free, and safe access to

your facilities to permit them to fulfill their obligations, andd. inform IBM or your reseller of changes in a Machine’s location.

Production Status

Each IBM Machine is manufactured from new parts, or new and used parts. Insome cases, the Machine may not be new and may have been previouslyinstalled. Regardless of the Machine’s production status, IBM’s appropriatewarranty terms apply.

Limitation of Liability

The terms of this Statement of Warranty apply to Machines purchased from anIBM reseller. If you purchased this Machine from IBM, the terms andconditions of the applicable IBM agreement prevail over this warrantystatement.

Warranty Service

If you purchased an IBM Machine in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia,Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania,Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland orUnited Kingdom, you may obtain warranty service for that Machine in any ofthose countries from either (1) an IBM reseller approved to perform warrantyservice or (2) from IBM.


If you purchased an IBM Personal Computer Machine in Albania, Armenia,Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Georgia,Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, FormerYugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia,Slovak Republic, Slovenia, or Ukraine, you may obtain warranty service forthat Machine in any of those countries from either (1) an IBM resellerapproved to perform warranty service or (2) from IBM.

The applicable laws, Country-unique terms and competent court for thisStatement are those of the country in which the warranty service is beingprovided. However, the laws of Austria govern this Statement if the warrantyservice is provided in Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina,Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Georgia,Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia(FYROM), Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, andUkraine.

The following terms apply to the country specified:

EGYPT: Limitation of Liability: The following replaces item 2 in this Section:2. as to any other actual direct damages, IBM’s liability will be limited to thetotal amount you paid for the Machine that is the subject of the claim.

Applicability of suppliers and resellers (unchanged).

FRANCE: Limitation of Liability: The following replaces the second sentenceof the first paragraph of this Section: In such instances, regardless of the basison which you are entitled to claim damages from IBM, IBM is liable for nomore than: (items 1 and 2 unchanged).

GERMANY: The IBM Warranty for Machines: The following replaces the firstsentence of the first paragraph of this Section: The warranty for an IBMMachine covers the functionality of the Machine for its normal use and theMachine’s conformity to its Specifications.

The following paragraphs are added to this Section: The minimum warrantyperiod for Machines is six months.

In case IBM or your reseller are unable to repair an IBM Machine, you canalternatively ask for a partial refund as far as justified by the reduced value ofthe unrepaired Machine or ask for a cancellation of the respective agreementfor such Machine and get your money refunded.

Extent of Warranty: The second paragraph does not apply.


Warranty Service: The following is added to this Section: During the warrantyperiod, transportation for delivery of the failing Machine to IBM will be atIBM’s expense.

Production Status: The following paragraph replaces this Section: EachMachine is newly manufactured. It may incorporate in addition to new parts,re-used parts as well.

Limitation of Liability: The following is added to this Section: The limitationsand exclusions specified in the Statement of Warranty will not apply todamages caused by IBM with fraud or gross negligence and for expresswarranty.

In item 2, replace ″U.S. $100,000″ with ″1.000.000 DEM.″

The following sentence is added to the end of the first paragraph of item 2:IBM’s liability under this item is limited to the violation of essential contractualterms in cases of ordinary negligence.

IRELAND: Extent of Warranty: The following is added to this Section: Exceptas expressly provided in these terms and conditions, all statutory conditions,including all warranties implied, but without prejudice to the generality of theforegoing all warranties implied by the Sale of Goods Act 1893 or the Sale ofGoods and Supply of Services Act 1980 are hereby excluded.

Limitation of Liability: The following replaces items one and two of the firstparagraph of this Section: 1. death or personal injury or physical damage toyour real property solely caused by IBM’s negligence; and 2. the amount ofany other actual direct damages, up to the greater of Irish Pounds 75,000 or125 percent of the charges (if recurring, the 12 months’ charges apply) for theMachine that is the subject of the claim or which otherwise gives rise to theclaim.


The following paragraph is added at the end of this Section: IBM’s entireliability and your sole remedy, whether in contract or in tort, in respect of anydefault shall be limited to damages.

ITALY: Limitation of Liability: The following replaces the second sentence inthe first paragraph: In each such instance unless otherwise provided bymandatory law, IBM is liable for no more than: (item 1 unchanged) 2) as to anyother actual damage arising in all situations involving non-performance byIBM pursuant to, or in any way related to the subject matter of this Statementof Warranty, IBM’s liability, will be limited to the total amount you paid for theMachine that is the subject of the claim.



The following replaces the second paragraph of this Section: Unless otherwiseprovided by mandatory law, IBM and your reseller are not liable for any of thefollowing: (items 1 and 2 unchanged) 3) indirect damages, even if IBM or yourreseller is informed of their possibility.

SOUTH AFRICA, NAMIBIA, BOTSWANA, LESOTHO AND SWAZILAND:Limitation of Liability: The following is added to this Section: IBM’s entireliability to you for actual damages arising in all situations involvingnonperformance by IBM in respect of the subject matter of this Statement ofWarranty will be limited to the charge paid by you for the individual Machinethat is the subject of your claim from IBM.

TURKEY: Production Status: The following replaces this Section: IBM fulfillscustomer orders for IBM Machines as newly manufactured in accordance withIBM’s production standards.

UNITED KINGDOM: Limitation of Liability: The following replaces items 1and 2 of the first paragraph of this Section:1. death or personal injury or physical damage to your real property solely

caused by IBM’s negligence;2. the amount of any other actual direct damages or loss, up to the greater of

Pounds Sterling 150,000 or 125 percent of the charges (if recurring, the 12months’ charges apply) for the Machine that is the subject of the claim orwhich otherwise gives rise to the claim.

The following item is added to this paragraph: 3. breach of IBM’s obligationsimplied by Section 12 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 or Section 2 of the Supplyof Goods and Services Act 1982.


The following is added to the end of this Section: IBM’s entire liability andyour sole remedy, whether in contract or in tort, in respect of any default willbe limited to damages.
