Life Skill Training

Youth Empowerment Program Update

IBL conducted life skill training for 10 days on 10– 21March 2016 at SMKN 1 Batam. It was attended by 61 students, coming from six different major, which are divided into two groups. The students was very excited. They gained new experiences and knowledge when enrolled on this life skill training. The activities were lled with games and energizer so that the students can accept the learning materials with happy feeling.

Soft skill materials bring benets to the students for their future. The objectives of this training are: students will have responsible attitudes, high dedication and qualication. In addition, the training activities include job counseling and company visit. Lesson learned from this activity are students can improve their skill and prepare themselves to be ready entering in work industry.

Indra joined Equip Youth program in Batch 19 SMKN 1 Batam, majoring Industrial Automation. He come from disadvantage background, his family is struggling nancially and he is eagerly looking for a job after graduate from SMK to help his family opening a business. “This training was very memorable, I learned about team work, how to speak in front of people, respecting others, and I am more condent now even for job interview!” he said.

Focus Group Discussion on Human Resource Development

On 16 April 2016, IBL held Human Resource Development (HRD) Forum themed "Effective recruitment to nd reliable human resource". The forum discussed the Implementation of recruitment and selection process of employees by companies which is a very important task. The quality of human resources at a company is depend on how recruitment and selective process conducted. The forum aims to identify challenges on recruitment issues, looking for potential collaboration with partnership scheme for reduce unemployment, and also strengthening youth empowerment.

Indonesia Business Links (IBL) through Youth Empowerment program seeks to bridging the gap between demand and supply on vocational graduates, such as improving youth competence with soft skill and hard skill training. So that in the future, they are ready to competence in work industry.

For following up the result of this forum, IBL will conduct next HRD forum in Mei 2016.

Devi Riani (22), was an entrepreneur by the age of 15. She sold fashion braces which really famous among the teen at that moment. She was able to earn 10 million per month. But, like any trend, fashion braces didn't long lasting. Hence, Devi moved to other online fashion business, like clothes and bags. She was successfully earned much prot until she decided to fulll her dream, as a music producer.

By the age of 19 she became the youngest music producer in Mandailing, North Sumatra. She invested most of her saving to produce her own music and album. Unfortunately, she failed, her album did not sell well on market. In 2013, she produced another album along with famous singer in Mandailing. But again, she had to lose her money and her saving dried up.

In 2014, Devi joined YES Program. It helped her to focus with one business since she sold everything after her failure in music production. Moreover, YES gave her energy to bounce back because she met young people who has passion and desire for business.

Today, Devi owns her own brand named CV DEVGAR INDONESIA, an online shopping which offers gadget accessories. She also has physical store at Bekasi and online store . Those types of store were gaining her IDR www.devgarshop.com40 million at 2016, March. YES program for her is the place to learn everything, not only for business, but also a better life. It taught her, from how-to-manage your money to ethical on business.

KNOVI is a traditional fashion brand with speciality product for hand made Kebaya. KNOVI offers the best satisfaction to its customer and promise to present the best product and design.

Novi Andryani, the happy owner of KNOVI, was a beneciary of YES Program in 2015, starting as an online outtter. Before joining YES Program, she was confused on how expand her business and no idea to develop the product. It was happened over a year.

On struggling her business, she heard information about YES Program from her campus, and she decided to join it. YES Program offered many insights about entrepreneurship. Not only provides the basic skill of being entrepreneur, but also gives her a lot of opportunity and met many young start up entrepreneur to share knowledge about business. Also through this program, she created network that benets her business. Her favorite section on Yes Program is Mentoring. It gave her direction and advice about her business.

Now she earns IDR 10 million prots per month and creates her own design of Kebaya. Currently, she has been working so hard to launch her website, it will be her next step to introduce her brand and design globally. “YES help bolster my desire and passion for business, the training was a great reminder of the keys to a successful”, She said.

Skilled Youth Program

Skilled Youth Program is a youth empowerment program supported by Citibank Foundation and Citi Peka. The main purpose of this program is to develop and empower 250 youths from low-income families ages 15 - 29 in the area of Bekasi, Cikarang, and Karawang. Skilled Youth Program has two main work areas, i) Skilled Youth Employability and ii) Skilled Youth Entrepreneurship. Through these two work areas, youths as beneciaries will be provided by options to increase their capacities in order to improve their chance of employment or to pursue entrepreneurial career through provision of business skills. At the end of program, it is expected that 130 youth will be employed and 20 youth will launch their own businesses.

In general, until April 2016 Skilled Youth program has reached 117 youth got job of 130 youth targeted, assisting 27 entrepreneurs (10 new entrepreneurs and 17 existing entrepreneurs) instead of 20 targeted. As the program is entering the nal phase of program duration, the achievement of program target is still on the progress and will be pursued to be achieved until the end of May 2016.

During the past year, Directorates of Housing and Settlements - Working Group on Water and Sanitation National (Pokja AMPL) in cooperation with Indonesia Urban Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (IUWASH) has focused collaborate in assisting CSR Forum in Indonesia. On April 7, 2016, They held National Workshop with theme "Rumah Bersama CSR" at Sari Pan Pacic Hotel, Jakarta. The workshop was intended as learning forum for CSR, and to build partnership multi-sector on clean water sanitation program among government, private sector, and civil society organisation.

On innovative dialogue sessions at the workshop, Executive Director of Indonesia Business Links, Yanti Triwadiantini conveyed understanding of partnership. "The real partnership is a relationship which has running together, creating mutual benet, and the risk also covered together", She said.

Riski had addmitted that he was a selsh, uncodent, and never heard his teacher's advice. But there was before him joined life skill training. After joining life skill training, he learned about how to control emotions, change mindset for a better person such as responsible attitude, friendly and optimistic, and also manage future life. Riski felt that his life is changing after he followed life skill training. He becomes more condent, work harder, and accept people critism about him.

Now Riski is working on an automotive company from Japan, as the operator of the vehicle interior. Riski say thankful on life skill training which had he followed. The training has been giving a tremendous impact for himself. Riski has a dream in one day he has his own garage business and can send he parents for Hajj.

As part of IBL commitment to actively build partnership among private sector, government, and NGOs to achieve sustainable development, we organized Partnership Training Batch 5 in March 17th 2016. Following the success of the previous batches, we had 25 participants from various background such as corporate, NGOs, government, and also academicians. This one day training was held in Sofyan Hotel Jakarta. With the spirit of Managing Multi-secto partnership, this training aimed to give a comprehensive knowledge about the importance of partnership and how to manage its sustainability.

In the opening remark, our trainer, Ibu Yanti Triwadiantini shared her experiences in managing parnership for more than 15 years with IBL. Ibu Yanti is one of certied trainer who has completed her training certication from Partnership Brokering Association (PBA) 2013 in UK. We also had Ibu Helen Sijabat as co-trainer who has completed her Level -1 course Partnership Brokers Association 2013 in Malaysia. Ibu Helen is also one of practitioners of partnership building/facilitation since 2012 and working for World Vision since 1985.

In this training, the participants are gathered to achieve the knowledge about partnership ; the meaning of partnership, understandent the multi-sector point of view, challanges in partnership, case study, and understanding of “partnership brokering” concept. There are 12 steps of partnering cylce as the key in building and managing partnership. These 12 key points were explained by the trainer and co-trainer.

After lunch break, the participants had a great opportunity to share with Pak Sudaryoko from Pertamina. He is the Community Development and Relations Manager of Pertamina Hulu Energi ONWJ and has many experiences in building and managing partnership for years. Pak Sudaryoko shared his stories, tips, experiences, and challanges in working with community. He believes that building and managing partnership is a dynamic art.

After the sharing session, participants were asked to give their self assessment during the training. We are delighted to hear many positive feedbacks from participants and their enthusiasm for the next training on Partnership Brokering. In the future, IBL will organize the Partnership Training Batch VI and hope that we can invite more participants from various background.

ASEAN CSR Network organised a Regional Working Group meetingon Business Integriry in Bangkok on 30th March 2016

ASEAN CSR Network organized a Regional Working Group meeting on Business Integrity in partnership with UN Ofce on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Transparency International and other partners. Held in Bangkok on 30th March 2016, the purpose of the meeting was to identify priority areas for cooperation and joint activities for the coming year. This is part of the project supported by the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Ofce.

The program Development Manager of Indonesia Business Links (IBL), Muhammad Fahmi participated in this one day working group meeting. After this activity, he and some of the participants also attended a training conducted by international audit rm, KPMG, on fraud and bribery on 31st March.
