4.ACADEMICINTEGRITYFor further information on academic integrity and misconduct, see IBO “GeneralRegulations”, articles 20 and 21, and the school’s IBDP “Academic Integrity Policy”whichoutlinesschoolphilosophyandproceduresrelatedtothissection.Itistheschool’sdutytoensurethatallpiecesofworksenttotheIBOforassessmentaretheoriginalwork of the candidates and complywith the requirements of each subject. If a supervisorsuspects academic misconduct then the work will not be accepted (see IBO “GeneralRegulations”, article 21.1) and the incident will be addressed according to proceduresstipulated in theschool’sacademichonestypolicy; ifmisconduct is identifiedafter theworkhas been submitted to the IBO for assessment, then it is the responsibility of the IBDPCoordinatortoinformtheIBO(seeIBO“GeneralRegulations”,article21.1);thisinturnmightresult in a serious reduction of the student’s grade, might constitute a failing conditionresultinginthenon-awardoftheIBDiplomaorevenleadtodisqualificationfromanyfutureIBDP examination session. The IBO is entitled to conduct an investigation into academicmisconductevenafteracandidate’sresultshavebeenissued(seeIBO“GeneralRegulations”,article21,sections7-10).TheIBOdefinesacademicmisconductinarticle20ofthe“GeneralRegulations”fortheDPas:

“behaviour (whether deliberate or inadvertent) that results in, ormay result in, thecandidate or any other candidate gaining an unfair advantage in one or morecomponents of assessment. Behaviour that may disadvantage another candidate isalso regarded as academic misconduct. Academic misconduct is a breach of theseregulationsandincludes, butisnotrestrictedto, thefollowing:a.plagiarism—thisisdefinedastherepresentation, intentionallyorunintentionally, oftheideas, wordsorworkofanotherpersonwithoutproper, clearandexplicitacknowledgment

All incoming students and parents are expected to be familiar with school and IBO policyconcerning academic integrity and misconduct, as outlined in these regulations and in theschool’s “Academic Integrity Policy”; to this effect, the school asks that all students andparents sign a statement, that they have read andunderstood regulations contained in thishandbook, includingproceduresrelatedtoacademic integrity.Theschoolfurtherundertakestohighlightsectionsoftheseregulationsinstudentand/orparentorientationsessions.

5.ELIGIBILITYTOREGISTERFORTHEIBEXAMSTheIBOdelegatestoschoolstherighttodecidewhichstudentsareeligibletotakepartinthefinal IBDiplomaexams. The studenthas tobe in good standingwith the school, before theschool registers him/her for the exams.A breach of the General IBO regulations or of theregulations contained in this handbook might result in the school denying the studentregistration for the examsuntil the school is satisfied that the student has compliedwithrequirements.

5.1.ACADEMICPERFORMANCE–ADVANCETO2NDYEARTheschoolstronglyrecommendsthatstudentsrepeatyear1oftheIBDiplomaprogram,ifoneofthefollowingisthecaseattheendoftheirfirstyear:i)theirtotalinthesixsubjectsisunder24points.ii)theyhaveagrade1or2inanysubject,eveniftheiroverallaverageisabove24points.Students who nevertheless decide to continue into the 2nd year should accept the seriouspossibilityoffailingtheDiploma.

5.2.ATTENDANCE–ABSENCESThe IBO prescribes a minimum of 150 hours of class attendance for every Standard Levelsubjectandaminimumof240hoursofclassattendanceforeveryHigherLevelsubjectthatastudenthasselected.Thispracticallymeansthatastudentcannotmissmorethan13hoursofanyHigherLevelclass,morethan17hoursofanyStandardLevelclassandmorethan10hoursof Theoryof Knowledge throughout the two years. Thus themaximumnumberof absencesallowed over the two years is approximately 100 hours, regardless of whether these areexcusedornot.IBO regulations clearly stipulate that it is the responsibility of the school to approve astudent’s registration for the final IB examinations. If a student has not completed theminimumhoursofattendance, theIBfacultyiseligibletoapproveordenytheregistrationfollowingextensivereviewofthestudent’sparticularcircumstancesduringformalmeetingtime. The student’s attendance record is available to university application advisors whomaycommentaboutpunctualityanddiligenceintheirreferenceletterstouniversities.

5.3.DEADLINESThe IBDP is ademandingprogram that requires systematic studyhabits andverygood timemanagement.Throughoutitstwoyearsstudentswillbeaskedtomeetanumberofdeadlinesregarding the submissionof assignments.Dependingon the subject, these take the formofwrittenessays, commentariesorresearchprojects, labreports, oralpresentations, etc.Toaidthe students in planning their work every year the faculty puts together a calendar, whichdistributes the workload in a rational way throughout the year. Non-compliance with adeadlinemayresultintheworknotbeingaccepted,whichinturnmayleadtothenon-awardoftheIBDiploma.Anypenalty incurred in relation to setdeadlines is recorded in the student’s file andmaysubsequentlyappearaspointofnoteinthereferencelettersthattheschoolprovides.Article3.3oftheIBOGeneralregulationsmakesitclearthat:“Candidates are required to act in a responsible and ethical manner throughout theirparticipation in theDP, as determinedby the IBOrganization at its sole discretion,whichincludesnotengaginginacademicmisconduct(asdefinedinarticle20),andmustbeingoodstandingattheschoolatthetimeoftheexaminations.”

1.3 The IB Organization has developed the DP as a pre-college/pre-university programmeaimed at candidates in the 16-19 age range. It is implemented in the last two years ofsecondary education. The DP is designed to lead to "The Diploma of the InternationalBaccalaureate" (hereinafter "IB Diploma") or "Diploma Programme Course Results"(hereinafter"DPCourseResults")forsubjects/elementsformingpartoftheDP.
