To become an I.A.S/I.P.S officer you should pass the Civil Services Examination, which is conducted by the UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION. (UPSC) This examination is conducted every year to select candidates for IPS and other 21 other services.

NOTE:
A) Papers on Indian Language and English will be of matriculation Standards. They will be of qualifying nature and marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for ranking.
B) The papers on Essay, General studies and Optional subjects of only such candidates will be evaluated, as attained such minimum standard for their qualifying papers on Indian language and English.
C) The question papers of the exam will be of Essay type.
D)Each paper will be of THREE hours duration.
E) Candidates have the option to answer all papers except language paper (Paper I&II) in any of the languages included in the 8th schedule of Constitution or in English.
F) The question paper other than language paper will be set both in Hindi & English.
Negative Marking System:
Applicable to Preliminary Examination
One Third (1/3) marks allotted to that question would be deducted from the total score .
No mark will be deducted for a question that was left unattended.
INTERVIEW TEST
1. Interview carries 275 marks.
2. You will be interviewed by a board consisting of a Chairman and Four Member.
3. Questions will be asked on matters of general interest or on your subject.
4. Test is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service.
5. Traits like mental alertness, critical power of assimilation, balance of judgment, depth of interest, Leadership abilities will be assessed.
