    Background:

    CCI launched the IA Grants Program in 2007, and in threeinitial rounds of funding provided grants to 54 California artists

    totaling $450,000.

    New cycle of IA Grants will add another five rounds of fundingproviding $1 million to California artists working in all disciplinesin 2009, 2010, and 2011.

    Round VI of the IA Grants Program was awarded in October2010.

    Round VII is now open to artists working in the Visual Arts,Craft and Literary Arts.

    Two Funding Categories:

    1) Grants for Artistic Equipment and Tools

    Implementation grants up to $10,000 each to acquiretools, materials or equipment that strengthens the artistslong-term capacity to create work.

    2) Artistic Innovation

    Implementation grants up to $10,000 each to create newwork that pushes the envelope of an artists creativeprocess, explores new artistic collaborations or supportsartistic growth and experimentation that extends theboundaries of their art-making.

    Who Can Apply:

    Diverse working artists in California in the performing,visual, literary, media, design and cross-disciplinaryfields. Applicants representing a wide range of artisticpractices, geographic regions and cultural expressions

    are encouraged to apply.

    Applicant Eligibility Criteria:

    Must apply as an individual working artist, not organization.

    Must show proof ofCalifornia residency for at least 3 prior years,plus maintain residency during the grant period.

    Must be 18 years of age or older, and not be a full-time ormatriculated student.

    Must have exhibited, performed, presented and/or published artistic

    work in a public context within the last three years. Must not submit more than one application in each round of funding.

    Previous IA grant recipients should check the latest grant guidelines

    for additional eligibility rules.

    Important Guideline Changes:

    Applications and work samples will now be accepted online ONLY,

    through the CultureGrants Online system; Maximum grants awards are set at $10,000 for implementation of

    projects in both program categories (planning grants are no longerprovided)

    The previous funding category called Grants for Presenting and

    Marketing Work which included both Planning and Implementationgrants, has been replaced by a new category called ArtisticInnovation to support a wider range of new work and innovativeapproaches proposed by artists;

    Application deadlines will be rotated, and applications reviewed bydiscipline-specific groupings: Performing Arts & Media Arts, and

    Visual Arts, Craft & Literary Arts; and finally, The grants office forInvesting in Artists has been moved to CCIs
