Pamela Denise Hilario August 12, 2015 L-150556 What can be the most essential component in a Christian life? Diverse answers may be given, but Timothy Radcliffe decides to begin with hope. Upon reading the article “I Will Awake The Dawn”, made me imagine a life where from a Christian perspective, everything else was in place - all the right beliefs, all the right actions - however without hope, then would that still be considered as Christian? There has always been a constant search for hope in all areas. However, Radcliffe argues that we live in a peculiarly hopeless time, when most of the traditional sources of hope are seen to be empty. Most of us are too pre-occupied with work or academics, which precludes us from participating in real life. Relating to the title of the article, waking up at dawn is symbolized by hope, being one of the main essences of being a Christian. Through this article I learned that hope for Christians is not quite like others’. It is not founded on the belief that all things would all turn out well nor it is the assurance that God will sort out everything sooner or later. These ironies were best exemplified when Radcliffe points out how Christianity was born, which is not through a positive event, but during the Last Supper, the Passover meal on the night before the Crucifixion. More so, the article speaks about how Christian history has guided us to live our present lives according to what the scripture mandates.
