WEDDING PLANNING 10116 TO 9 MONTHS OUT

START A WEDDING BINDERBegin leafing through bridal, fashion, lifestyle, food, and decor magazines for inspiration and put them in one place for quick reference. Make a “wedding inspiration” Pinterest board and save your favorite ideas.

WORK ON YOUR BUDGETDetermine an overall budget for your big day based on your family’s contribution and your own. From there, break it down per category. The venue, catering, cake, and rentals will take the largest chunk.

PICK YOUR WEDDING PARTYConsider the size of your wedding. The average wedding party size is four on either side. You can go larger or smaller, but keep in mind that “more isn’t always merrier.” The more attendants you have, the more details there are to organize.

START THE GUEST LISTMake a spreadsheet to use throughout your planning process with columns for contact info, RSVPs, gifts, and any other relevant information. Want to keep costs low? It may hurt but the best way to do it is to reduce your guest list.

HIRE A PLANNER FROM THE CENTERA wedding planner will help keep you organized and on task throughout the planning process. We have relationships and insights with various vendors that make it easy to coordinate all the details. The Center for Rural Development has a variety of wedding consultation packages available from all-inclusive to hourly services.

RESERVE YOUR DATE AT THE CENTERDecide whether you will have separate locations for the ceremony and reception. Factor in all the important details including travel time, budget, and guest accommodations.

BEGIN RESEARCHING AND BOOKING VENDORSKeep contact information in your planning binder. Attending bridal expos is a great way to expose yourself to a variety of vendors all in one place. The Center is hosting their annual From This Moment Bridal Show on January 19th, 2019 from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM.

HAVE FUN & CELEBRATEWedding planning is fun! Invite your bridesmaids and start shopping around for dresses and decor ideas. Throw an engagement party and celebrate this journey. It’s a long process but it is totally worth it in the end!

8 TO 6 MONTHS OUT

START BOOKING VENDORSNo need to talk specifics yet, but be sure that the people you want to hire are open to the date you have selected. This includes your photographer, videographer, entertainment, and florist.

PURCHASE YOUR DRESS & THE BRIDESMAIDS DRESSESYou’ll need to schedule time for at least three dress fittings, so the sooner you get your order in, the better. Make sure your bridesmaids dresses are ordered with enough time to allow for delivery and any alterations.

RESERVE A BLOCK OF HOTEL ROOMS FOR GUESTSDon’t forget about your out-of-town guests! Pick a few hotels at different price points close to the reception venue.

START YOUR REGISTRYSign up at a minimum of three retailers. Choose some local and some for those that like online shopping. Post it on your wedding website and notify your shower host.

SELECT & PURCHASE INVITESHire a calligrapher if desired, but be sure your invites and all stationary coordinate with your theme. Incorporate your color scheme and overall aesthetics. Make sure the font is legible and choose your words wisely.

SEND SAVE-THE-DATESOnce they are in the mail, there’s no turning back. So be sure to send them out to the guests you definitely want to attend. Don’t over think the design. Save-the-Dates are much less formal than the actual invitations.

DON’T FORGET THE GROOMNow is a good time to schedule tux fittings for the groom and groomsmen. Group fittings are a great idea. If some can’t make it, they can always get fitted on their own time and email their measurements to the tux store.

RESERVE RENTALSDo you plan on renting chairs, alters, linens, china, centerpieces or other decorations? Make sure you secure those items well in advance to ensure everything comes together as you envisioned.

Wondering about all the things you’ll need to do and when? Our staff has put together a few comprehensive checklists to keep you organized throughout the wedding planning process.

WEDDING PLANNING 1015 TO 3 MONTHS OUT

SELECT & ORDER CAKEAttend several tastings as this is a great way to meet with the bakers, bond with them, and fully understand their abilities. Keep your budget in mind. Cakes are typically priced per slice and the more intricate the cake design is, the higher the price tag.

PURCHASE ACCESSORIES & BEGIN FITTINGSSomething old, something new, something borrowed, something blue! Start purchasing and planning all the details. Bring your shoes to your dress fittings so the tailor can choose the appropriate length for your gown.

SCHEDULE HAIR/MAKEUPBook your favorites or make several appointments with various local experts to try them out. Snap photos to compare!

FINALIZE THE MENU & FLOWERSYou’ll want to wait until now to see what is available. Food and florals are affected by season, so definitely keep your budget in mind if choosing items that will need special accommodations. Also, make sure your menu includes any special dietary needs (vegan, allergies, etc.).

ORDER FAVORSFavors are not a necessity, so do not feel obligated to offer these to your guests. In fact, if you are accommodating a large guest list, favors can carry a hefty price tag. Some ideas include monogrammed cups, cookies, or other special treats that reflect your relationship and personality.

SEND YOUR SCHEDULE TO VENDORSSending them a first draft now, gives ample time for any tweaks or revisions should final details change.

PURCHASE RINGSThis will give you plenty of time for sizing and any special services like engraving.

2 TO 1 MONTH OUT

MEET & FINALIZE DETAILS WITH VENDORSDiscuss specifics and make sure any questions have been answered. Make a photography shot list, finalize your music, confirm dates/times, etc.

SEND OUT INVITATIONSThe rule of thumb is to mail out invitations 6 to 8 weeks before the ceremony, Set the RSVP cut off to 3 weeks after the postmark date to enable enough time to finalize details.

BACHELORETTE PARTY TIMEEnjoy a night out with girlfriends! This is generally up to the maid-of-honor, but if she hasn’t mentioned anything then feel free to plan one yourself. Just have a good time!

GET YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSEGenerally left to 30 days in advance, but can take up to 60 days. It’s good to give yourself some leeway. This is also important if getting married in another country or state.

HAVE YOUR LAST DRESS FITTINGIt’s almost the big day and your dress is one of the most important parts! Make sure you have everything ready to go and all alterations have been made. Store it in a safe place!

SEND OUT FINAL PAYMENTSTry to finalize payments with as many vendors as possible so you aren’t worrying about it the week or day of the wedding.

PURCHASE GIFTSIf you plan on gifting the bridesmaids, mothers, fathers, groomsmen, attendants, etc. then go ahead and purchase them now. You’ll want to give them out at the rehearsal dinner.

WRITE VOWS, IF NECESSARYIf you and your fiancé plan on reading vows, then now is the time to finalize. If not, it’s still a good idea to confirm details with the officiant on how you would like your ceremony to proceed.

WEEK OF WEDDING

RECONFIRM ARRIVAL TIMES WITH VENDORSMake sure everyone has a copy of the wedding day timeline and they are scheduled to arrive with enough time for set up.

DELEGATE SMALL WEDDING DAY TASKSChoose someone to bustle your dress, someone to carry your things, pack your emergency kit, someone to hand out tips, and someone to be the point person for all vendors.

SEND TIMELINE TO YOUR BRIDAL PARTYInclude contact information for everyone and make sure to include details for those you’ve delegated tasks to. And don’t leave out the men...make sure they know the game plan too!

PICK UP DRESSIf you haven’t already, pick up your dress and store in a safe place until the big day!

BOOK A SPA DAY!Make an appointment for a manicure and pedicure a day or two in advance. You may want to book a stress-relieving massage while you’re at it!

SEND FINAL GUEST COUNT TO THE CATERER & VENUEMake sure the venue has accommodations for your final count and the caterer is prepared to serve all who have committed to attend.

PACK FOR YOUR HONEYMOONLeaving for your honeymoon the day or two after the wedding? Make sure you have everything ready to go so you are not in a rush last minute.

RELAX & ENJOY YOUR DAY! The day has finally arrived! It’s probably the biggest event of your life thus far. Be present and enjoy every moment. Laugh, hug, cry, smile, and dance the night away as you begin this new journey in your life!

Wondering about all the things you’ll need to do and when? Our staff has put together a few comprehensive checklists to keep you organized throughout the wedding planning process.

Planning a Wedding with The Center for Rural Development

Venue and Wedding Planning Advice

1. Choose a space that aligns with your vision. It might seem obvious, but seek out a space that fits the aesthetic you have in mind. 2. Know your guest list and how many people you’re expecting to invite. Make sure your space can accommodate all of your intended guest list. Typically, 65-70% of those you invite will actually attend. 3. Remember your budget. Break down your overall budget by category, prioritizing more funds for vendors or services that are higher priority. 4. Consider your guests’ experience. If you’re inviting a lot of out-of-town guests, look for a venue that’s near a hotel. The Center is conveniently located next to a brand new Courtyard by Marriott, making it the perfect venue for wedding parties. 5. Think about what is included Know what you are getting when selecting a venue and what is included in the final price. A venue with tables and chairs and other services included can end up saving you a lot of money.

Drew and Meagan Mattmiller Drew and Meagan Mattmiller met through their part-time jobs during college. Meagan was a cashier at Kroger and Drew was a stock boy for Pepsi Cola. They both worked evening hours and one night Drew asked Meagan to dinner and gave her his phone number. The couple married on October 21, 2017, and held their reception at The Center for Rural Development. “The reason we chose The Center for our reception venue is because we both wanted an open space that would comfortably accommodate all our guests, “ Meagan said. “We had family and friends that traveled miles to spend our special day with us and many that came locally, and we wanted them to feel comfortable and enjoy the evening. We also had a live band that traveled from out-of-town as well as wonderful caterers, so we felt the foyer at The Center greatly accommodated the band as well as our catering services where all events could take place in one large area for all to access.” The Mattmillers celebrated in grand style. “Our favorite wedding moments at our reception was the father-daughter and mother-son dance,” Meagan said. “Being able to get our parents out in front of nearly 200 people and dance was the highlight of our night. That is something you will only get to do once for an occasion like this. Seeing them let go and have fun was something special that you will never forget.” The Mattmiller reception was a great success and they provide the following advice to couples currently

planning their big day. “If we could give any venue advice to current/future brides and grooms it would be to make sure your venue has space! There were many moving parts that had to take place on our day and it made it a lot easier to provide a space for all to come together,” Meagan said. “We would recommend The Center because they were easy to work with. It is already stressful enough planning your own wedding and the service and quick response we received from The Center staff was wonderful. Our favorite thing about utilizing The Center for our reception was having all the open space! We loved seeing our guests being able to enjoy the dance floor at the end of the night and all that was important to us was that everyone had a fun time and we felt we accomplished that.”

Brandon and Elise Barker

Brandon and Elise Barker have known each other since high school and started dating during Elise’s freshman year of college. They married on June 9th, 2018, at St. Mildred Catholic Church in Somerset, and hosted their wedding reception at The Center for Rural Development. The Center has “the capacity for a group larger than 200 and proximity to accommodations for out-of-town guests. The Courtyard by Marriott, next to The Center, was the perfect location for the bridal party and out-of-town guests. We also liked the options for a wedding planner and ability to bring in every vendor we wanted – there weren’t limitations or certain packages we had to choose; we were able to customize everything for our day,” said Elise. Elise described her favorite part of utilizing The Center for their big day was “the ease of bringing multiple vendors into the venue for the reception and the availability of a wedding planner who is familiar with the space, vendors in town, and how the venue can be best utilized. I loved that I could decorate the exhibit hall with the draping and add the chandelier to the package to make the space look like what I had envisioned.” Elise provides the following advice to couples currently seeking a venue for their wedding. “I would pick a venue that requires little work on wedding day for you and your family. The best part of the venue was having the wedding planner from The Center coordinate my wedding day so

my family could enjoy and spend time with us and our guests instead of worrying about all the details. We also tried to reduce traveling for guests between venue and accommodations.” The Barkers beautiful reception also provided them with memories that will last a lifetime. “Our favorite wedding moment was the first dance. We enjoyed the time together and it was a greatly anticipated moment that turned out perfect,” Elise added.

Kyle and Michelle Spencer

Kyle and Michelle Spencer met on June 19th, 2010, as they waited outside the SomerSplash Waterpark. Storms were in the forecast, it had been raining, and the park was closed. Kyle had an iPhone and was looking at the weather radar. “We spent that day together and the rest is history.” Michelle said. The Spencers hosted their wedding and reception at The Center for Rural Development on November 3rd, 2018. They chose The Center for the beauty of the space, central location for their guests, and its affordability. “The Center is pretty. I didn’t have to spend as much on decorations because the lobby was already super pretty,” explained Michelle. In fact, Michelle took on many of the wedding preparations herself. She served as her own wedding planner and did her own makeup, wedding favors, stationary, and flowers. “You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a great wedding. Ultimately, what your guests will remember is the good time they had,” Michelle added. One of the couple’s favorite pieces of their event was the dancing. “My DJ was really good and played a lot of songs that kept everyone dancing. Everyone had a good time and were entertained,” said Michelle.

Tell us about your business. Diamond Design Jewelers has been in business for 31 years. We are a full-service in store jewelery store. Our skilled master jewelers can perform jewelery repairs and specialize in custom design. We are honored to make a lot of custom bridal pieces.

What products do you have available at your store? Our main focus is engagement rings and wedding sets, but we sell everything from watches to diamond necklaces, diamond earrings, anniversary rings, clusters, and semi-precious colored stones.

What questions should couples ask themselves when beginning to look at wedding bands? They should consider if they would like wedding bands that match or are custom designed to the engagement ring.

When should couples start looking for their wedding jewelry?Three months before the date is a good rule of thumb. This gives the jeweler time to custom build or to order in to the customer’s specifications. However, it is possible to get your wedding bands in one week if you pick one of the stock pieces.

What are some of the style trends you have seen recently? Most recently, rose gold has gotten really popular and yellow gold is coming back.

What should customers know about the 4Cs?We go over the 4Cs before we even start looking at rings or diamonds. The process helps the customer decide where they want to be at with their diamond cut, color, clarity, and carats.

Are there options for couples who are interested in custom designs? The custom design is endless. We have 2 CAD designers on staff. We have worked with one of them for over 20 years and the other designer over 5 years. They are both amazing. Over half of what we do is custom.

Do you have any other advice when it comes to wedding jewelry? If you’re wanting a custom made piece, it is really critical that it be made in the USA. It is bar none better quality than getting it overseas. You can’t always trust a chain store to use a CAD designer that is in the US because 90 percent of their product comes from China. Most of our jewelry is USA made in local states. We do in house repairs, we don’t send it off for 3 weeks. Most of the time we can have it for the customer in 1-3 days. Diamond Design Jewelers hand picks every diamond, and we have the highest grade diamonds available. We have low overhead and that means lower prices.

How can the Courtyard by Marriott help with a bride’s special day?

1) We can assist with placing any special gifts or items or special requests in each room of the bridal party or other VIPs associated with the wedding.

2) When possible, we allow later than typical check out without fees. (Subject to availability and arrivals of other guests.)

What type of rooms do you have that brides and the party can use for getting ready?

We have three unique rooms/room types which can be used.

1) Some brides have rented our meeting room and use it as a preparation area for the bride and her bridesmaids. The room is 1,000 square feet.

2) The hotel has 2 types of suites. We have 2 king suites. These suites are the size of 2 guest rooms. The front room is a large open sitting room, a privacy door separates the king-sized bedroom. Many wedding parties rent both of these rooms. One room is used by the bride and her party, the other by the groom and his party. They are located on different floors minimizing contact between bride and groom prior to the ceremony.

3) The hotel also has 3 mini-suites. These are in-line or extended room type suites and have 2 queen beds in each room. They are often rented by wedding parties for additional preparation space.

Do you have areas for bridal party photos?

The Courtyard by Marriott has a beautifully landscaped outdoor courtyard with a fire pit. This area is an ideal location for pictures.

Accommodation Considerations with Courtyard by Marriott

How far in advance would you advise the bride and groom to book a block of rooms for their out of town guests?

May-June are primary months for weekend travel in this area, and the 3 months in which a great many weddings take place. It is recommended that room block arrangements be finalized as soon as possible. Typically we recommend that the bride finalize the room block when she selects and contracts with the ceremony and reception venue(s). The Courtyard is a large hotel with 104 rooms that can accommodate even the largest wedding block.

Do you have any specials for bridal packages?

A discount is provided on the brides room with a group block of 10 or more rooms. The discount percentage is based on the size of the room block. Brides are encouraged to contact the hotel sales department for specifics.

Do you have any other information or advice that brides might find helpful?

The hotel is ideally located next door to The Center for Rural Development. This makes it possible for the bridal party to simply walk across a very small part of the parking lot after getting ready. The bride will not have to risk sitting on or wrinkling her gown in a car on her way to the ceremony venue. The Courtyard is a new hotel, not yet 2 years old, and is an elegant and upscale hotel. The bride and her family can be proud of selecting this property for their out of town guest room block. The Courtyard is currently in the top 2 percent of all Courtyard properties globally as scored by a primary Marriott survey. The bride and her family can rest assured that her guests will be well cared for when they stay at the Courtyard.

What time frame would you recommend to a couple who are just beginning the wedding planning process when it comes to thinking about transportation service? How far in advance do you need to start looking? The sooner the better! Typically transportation, like many things in the wedding planning process, will morph. I typically begin working with some brides over a year in advance. Guest numbers may begin higher, then as the big day nears, numbers may decrease or increase. It’s most important to think about what types of transport is needed and what type vehicles are desired for bachelor/bachelorette parties, airport pick-up/drop-off, rehearsal dinners, guest transport, bridal parties, and post reception departures. I always say Rome wasn’t built in a day, so beginning the process early is key in order to have a solid plan in place with no worries on the couple’s big day!

What are the important things a couple needs to consider when choosing transportation?First and foremost, is the company licensed and insured, with vetted trained chauffeurs? Are their vehicles inspected and authorized to operate in the state of Kentucky? These are things not only important in the wedding planning process, but very important for anyone seeking ground transportation service, whether it be by taxi, limousine, or transit bus! If that vehicle arrives without a green printed license plate on the front displaying limousine or taxi, it is likely not authorized to be carrying passengers in the state. All it takes is one accident involving passengers inside a vehicle not adequately insured and licensed, OR with an unlicensed driver to create a nightmare of unthinkable magnitude. Your life may truly depend on that correct choice!

What makes you different from other limo companies?Lake Cumberland Limousine is local, with garage and office dispatch facility located within 20 minutes of most pickups in the local Somerset/Burnside market. Hiring a local company will save not only dollars spent, but ease the planning process by being able to work with a local, accessible company agent. We have an unblemished accident/violation record since the company’s beginning in 2010. We also have an on time arrival guarantee…if you are late because of us, you don’t pay! Finally, we are willing to work with our customers on their budgetary needs and confines. Naturally, I could go on, but all you have to do is hire us once, and you will understand our endless commitment to our customer lifeline!

What are the popular trends in wedding limousines? The larger, the better! Accommodating the highest number of passengers is by far the leaning trend not only in the wedding market, but the national market as well. Traditional stretch styled limousines are fading away in popularity, but we still operate those vehicles in our local fleet due to our high wedding and formal event volume, which often will be the only reservation type that specifically requests a stretch styled limousine. Our proud membership in both the Kentucky and National Limousine Associations helps keep us up to date on trends in all industry aspects of chauffeured transportation. We are able to stay at the top of our game in what we have to offer our customers.

What type of service should a couple expect from their limo company?Seamless, worry free, and flexible! The last thing a couple needs to worry about on their special day is whether or not the transportation service is going to be on time to transport all their guests to their ceremony and reception, then return them safely. They shouldn’t have to worry whether or not their vehicle will be on time to pick them up to head to the airport at 3:30 AM for their Honeymoon departure. Efficiency is paramount, and a couple should expect no less!

Do you have other advice for couples looking to hire a limo for their wedding?Be patient, relax and enjoy the journey! Your limousine operator should almost feel like an extended member of the family by wedding day! Though they experience many special wedding days, each one is different, unique and just as special to them as your dedicated professional.

Tell me about your business.Lake Cumberland Limousine, LLC is a full-service licensed, insured luxury ground transportation company operating with both state and federal authorities. Our current chauffeur staff consists of vetted, trained professional drivers with over 45 years industry experience combined. We serve customers across the state of Kentucky with a concentration of clients in the lake region dispatching local fleet vehicles out of our Pulaski County facility. I personally began chauffeuring as a father /son team for Yellow Limousine in Louisville back in the 80’s and drove part time for several companies over the years in different US markets until starting this company in 2010. My father was an integral part of the company start up and stayed involved until his passing in 2015. I continue our legacy of chauffeuring now utilizing a diverse group of fleet vehicles including Lincoln Livery Sedans, Lincoln Long wheel base SUV’s, Lincoln 8 passenger Stretch Limousines, and 20 passenger Super Stretch SUV Limousines. Our services, naturally include weddings, but also cover corporate and convention work, airport transport, party and concert trips, and casual evenings on the town. Our primary goal is to offer any size group, safe, efficient, luxury chauffeured transportation with seamless, pampered customer service, while operating under all required state and federal regulatory guidelines.

Weddings Through Time19

00 -

1940

s1950s - 1960s

The Cake: Most wedding cakes in the early 1900s were made at home by the bride’s family. They were made with a traditional sponge cake and iced with plain white icing. The only

decorations on the cakes were natural flowers.

The Dress: With dancing becoming more popular at the wedding ceremony, dresses with a flowing silhouette were becoming much more common. As the Jazz Age entered, these streamlined dresses featured very intricate beading and embroidery.

The Flowers: Cascading bouquets were the most popular trend of the early 1900s. They were made up of many different flowers, among the most popular were white roses, lilies, and white orchids. These large bouquets also included streaming ribbon and training vines.

The Cake: After the war time came to an end, wedding cakes started getting larger and more elaborate. Most cakes had several tiers and were decorated with flowers and figurines. In 1966, Priscilla and Elvis Presley’s wedding cake became an icon. It had 6 tiers, was nearly 5 feet tall and cost roughly $22,000 in today’s economy.

The Dress: As the cakes got larger, the dresses got shorter. The 50’s and 60’s featured shorter dresses and veils to put more emphasis on the brides shoes. Sweetheart necklines came on to the scene after Elizabeth Taylor wore one in “Father of the Bride.”

The Flowers: Daisies were the most popular wedding flower in the 60s, brides incorporated them into their bouquets and dresses.

Wedding decor became much more detailed in the 50s due to the end of wartime rationing.

The first fully automatic photographic

film developing machine was patented

in 1928, paving the way for wedding

photography as we know it.

980s

1990s - 2000s

The Cake: Wedding cakes continued getting more elaborate and they were covered in edible decorations. Cakes became more colorful and personalized and were often coordinated with the colors of the bride’s gown and other wedding decor.

The Dress: As church weddings became less popular, more brides started wearing strapless wedding dresses. The big dresses of the 80s were replaced by a much more minimalistic style, most dresses had a much more plain and slim style.

The Flowers: There wasn’t a particular flower that stole the show during this time. The most prominent trend was that everything matched. The colors of the flowers, the cake, the dresses and the decor all complemented each other.

The Cake: The most popular style of the 70s and 80s were cakes with pillars. This trend forced bakers to find more sturdy icing, such as Royal icing, to support the tiers. The cakes were

decorated with ornaments, ribbons, flowers and other trinkets. Most decorations were made with edible butter-cream icing.

The Dress: The only trend for dresses in the 70s was that each bride was unique. Dresses ranged from vintage to princess to hippie frocks. The 80s on the other hand were dominated by the return of the BIG dresses. Lace and frills with full-length trains and veils took over after Princess Diana’s fairytale wedding dress in 1981.

The Flowers: Most brides carried oversized bouquets to match their big dresses. Gardenia flowers were used in the brides oversized bouquet, the wedding cake, and other wedding decor.

Capturing your wedding on video

became popular in the 80s, this created

the wedding videography industry.

The wedding industry exploded in the 1990s, more ceremonies were held in hotels and country clubs to accommodate the larger parties.

Modern Bride

www.wesbrownweddings.com

The Cake: Plastic figurines and pillars are a thing of the past. Today’s wedding cakes usually feature 3 tiers with many different modern touches. There are two main trends that stand out in modern wedding cakes. The first is the naked cake trend. Naked cakes achieve a more vintage look by adding little to no icing on the sides and using natural flowers and fruit to decorate the cake. The other trend is a very contemporary looking cake with metallic accents. These cakes generally have a crisp white base with decorations that are gold, rose gold, or silver; these decorations can include flowers that have been spray painted or metallic painted designs on each tier. Many brides are even adding lighting to the cake so that the metallic accents really pop.

The Dress: Although white wedding dresses are still the most common choice, it is becoming more common to go with a different color. Brides are choosing to walk down the aisle in many different colors, including blue, green, red, and black. Some brides stick to tradition when walking down the aisle but change it up for the reception. Brides are wearing form fitted wedding dresses. The mermaid is one of the most popular silhouettes. This trend is fueling the incline in brides who change dresses before the reception. Brides want to wear something more comfortable as they dance and visit with guests.

The Flowers: Larger floral arrangements of the 80s are coming back in style, but brides are saving a little money by giving up that perfect bouquet of white roses or lilies. Many brides are opting to have asymmetrical bouquets and include long ribbons, local flowers, and more greenery to make the arrangements more eye catching without breaking the bank.

Modern Twists: Nearly every aspect of the wedding industry is being impacted by technology. Many brides are embracing these changes by encouraging guests to take more pictures, use Snapchat filters, post pictures on social media using a unique hashtag and even renting a photo booth. Some brides are even choosing to not have a photographer or videographer at the reception and asking guests to take more pictures and videos. It has also become more common to set up a live feed so that guests that can’t attend the wedding can still be a part of the big day.

For hundreds of years there has been superstition surrounding the bride and groom seeing each other before the ceremony. This superstition is quickly fading as modern couples opt for a more intimate “First Look” just before the wedding ceremony begins.

Check out some of today’s most popular trends!

Bridal Bites

Chocolate Ganache TrufflesIngredients: • 1 lb. chocolate chips, (half dark half semi, coarsely chopped) • 1 tbsp. unsalted butter • 1 cup heavy cream • 2 tbsp. Grand Marnier or 1 tsp. of vanilla extract • 1/2 cup each coconut, Confectioners’ sugar and Cocoa powder

Directions:Place butter and cream in a small saucepan over low heat until it just boils. Pour the cream into the bowl with chocolate. With a wire whisk, slowly stir the cream and chocolates together until the chocolate is completely melted. Whisk in the Grand Marnier or vanilla extract. Place the bowl in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

Rolling the Truffle Balls:The chocolate mixture should be firm, softer than cold butter but harder than peanut butter. Use a teaspoon to scoop up around 2 tsp of chocolate. Use a 2nd teaspoon to scrape the chocolate onto the chilled plate. (Don’t worry about them not being round, you’ll fix that in the next steps). Repeat with remaining chocolate mixture. Then pick up a dollop of chocolate and roll into an even ball shape, then put it back on the plate. Place coatings in separate plates, coconuts, powdered sugar, crushed nuts. Roll each dollop of chocolate in your hands to roughly make a round ball. Roll in confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, or both. These will keep refrigerated for weeks, but serve at room temperature.

Eggless Chocolate MousseIngredients: • 2 cups heavy whipping cream • 1 tsp. vanilla extract • 1 cup ganache

Directions:Place 2 cups of cream and add 1 tsp vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Whip well until it forms soft peaks, about 7 minutes. Now add the cooled ganache and whip well until it forms stiff peaks. Scoop into serving bowls and let it set for 2 hours in the refrigerator. Use a piping bag to pipe into the cups. Garnish with chocolate chips, curls or nuts or even whipped cream and serve.

These sweet bites are the perfect treat to serve at your Bridal Shower.

Chocolate BarkIngredients • 1 lb. oz 60%+ dark chocolate chips • 1 tsp. coconut butter • 1/2 lb. white chocolate chips • 1/4 cup mini marshmallows • 1 cup chopped nuts • 1/2 cup mini pretzels • 1/2 cup Hershey’s chocolate bar • 1/2 cup graham crackers

DirectionsMelt dark chocolate chips and coconut butter on a double boiler. Repeat for white chocolate chips in a separate bowl. Set parchment paper on a sheet pan. Pour dark chocolate onto the paper and smooth over with rubber spatula or spoon. Drizzle white chocolate on top of the dark chocolate with a spoon. Use a knife to create swirls/patterns in chocolate. Scatter your favorite chocolate over the melted chocolate, like mini marshmallows, crushed graham crackers and Hershey’s chocolate bar pieces.Put the chocolate bark in the fridge for 1 hour. Break the bark with a knife and enjoy.

1. Opt for Digital Invites & RSVPsWelcome to the 21st Century. Nowadays it’s just as easy to create a wedding website, utilize an app, or send digital invitations than it is to mail your invitations and RSVP cards. You’ll save tons on paper and postage and I guarantee you’ll get more responses from your guest list. Be sure to include your phone number or address for those that might not be as tech-savy. The Center’s Marketing One-Stop-Shop can create amazing digital invitation designs. Contact Laura Glover at 606-677-6001 for more information.2. Think Big for ProgramsSave on printing costs by posting one large program at the entrance of your ceremony and reception site. Calligraphed chalkboards or mirrors are trendy, budget-friendly options. The Center’s Marketing One-Stop-Shop would love to help you with program designs as well.3. Don’t overdo favorsWedding favors are an easy way to rack up a big expense, especially when purchasing for each individual that attends. Instead, opt to give a favor to each couple or family. Just make sure it is shareable. For assistance with wedding favors contact The Center’s Marketing One-Stop-Shop. 4. Select a family-style mealWork with your caterer on a tasty family-style dinner. Think gourmet pasta bar, instead of a three-course plated meal. Be sure to include choices that ALL guests will love, including meat, vegetarian, and allergen options.5. Go for a dessert buffetIt’s time to think outside the box for dessert options. Cakes are expensive, especially if you’re looking to serve a big crowd. Consider planning a dessert buffet with cupcakes,

10 Easy Ways to Save Big Bucks on Your Special Day!cookies, and other mini treats. Enlist family members and friends to help create the spread and save money by forgetting the bakery/cake artist altogether.6. Repurpose flower arrangementsHave your florist create arrangements that work for both the ceremony and reception. Enlist a trustworthy friend or family member to help transport them between each location. You may also repurpose bridesmaids’ bouquets and combine them to make one large arrangement. This would be a great way to decorate the bar or gift tables.7. Hire a studentAsk reputable sources to recommend students or new businesses to cover some of your vendor needs, i.e. makeup artists, hair dressers, DJs, even videographers. They are more likely to go the extra mile to help build their reputation for a fraction of what an established pro would charge.8. Choose candles for centerpiecesTall candelabras are an excellent way to add elegance to your event space and are significantly cheaper than floral arrangements. Less is more with centerpieces!9. Pick a less popular dateYou can get great deals with various vendors by marrying on an unconventional date or day of the week. Think, Friday evening, Sundays, or even mornings. Since these are days that are typically hard for vendors to book, they are more likely to work with your budget and offer you a great price!10. Save big on your dream grownSo you want the designer gown without the large price tag? Explore sample sales and off-the-rack options, then have them tailored for a perfect fit!
