The Upgradable Client is a full client, containing all program logic needed to perform trader actions. The
Upgradable Client is able to update to the latest program logic and will automatically update itself to the
latest version when such code becomes available.
This ensures the client software is always up to par without the need to manually download and install a
newer version.
In order to install the upgradable version, the following option needs to be ticked during the installation
process. Please note that this option is not ticked by default:
Please note that it is not possible to install both the
Fixed and the Upgradable versions at the same time on
the same machine.
Using an Upgradable client on a Citrix platform is not
supported.

User can download these versions and run without installing
The standalone package consist of two folders and one or more exe files 7. The content of any files
must not be changed. For 32 bit version, one exe file (ComTrader.exe) is provided. Application is limited
to use 1GB of RAM
For 64 bit version, 3 exe files are provided with:
1 GB RAM version (ComTrader-1G.exe)
2 GB RAM version (ComTrader-2G.exe). To use this version, user must have at least 4 GB
RAM,
And 4 GB RAM version (ComTrader-4G.exe). To use this version, user must have at least 6 GB
RAM.
The standalone package has proper Java version bundled and does not use the WebStart technology.
Therefore it is independent on Java version installed in the user’s computer.

Before a connection can be made to the servers, the Network Settings need to be defined.
After installation, the default Server Address and Server Port require modification into the settings provided
by the exchange.
Enter the following network details:

Default secure connection
The Trader Client connects using TLS 1.2 with the Exchange
server. Default this is set to enabled.
Proxy connection
The Trader Client can connect over a proxy server that needs
authentication and supports the use of HTTP CONNECT proxy.
The authentication protocol that is supported is the 'http basic
authentication' standard, no other authentication protocols are
currently implemented.
More technically: The proxy protocol used is the 'http
CONNECT tunnel' standard.
When the Trader Client connects to the proxy server it will pop-
up a dialog box that requests the user name and password for
proxy server access.
It is possible to fill in the user name in the ETS trade client
settings panel, so that the proxy user name does not need to be
typed into the dialog every time a trader logs in.
In order to activate HTTP CONNECT Proxy Settings, enable the
corresponding checkbox in the Global Settings.
Limit the IP address
Upon request, the exchange can restrict the connection to
specific IP addressed.
Firewall configuration
If your firewall implements packet inspection, you may need to
disable this functionality for ETS. Some packet inspection
system don’t support the ETS implementation of TLS 1.2.

- User IDs (logins) and passwords are not linked to traders. A User ID can be shared among several
traders of a company (but not at the same time). It is the company’s responsibility to decide if the
password of a User ID can be shared among several traders or if a User ID is to be used only by e
certain trader.
- Initial passwords provided by the exchange are valid 7 days and they must be changed internally in
order to extend their validity to 3 months.
- There is a specific login for the production environment and one for the simulation environment.
Be aware that you have a maximum of three attempts to enter a
correct password.
After the third invalid attempt, your User ID will be blocked from
access until the exchange operator resets your User ID.
Upon written request (email), the exchange can either reset the
tries left (so the current password remains valid) or provide a
new password by email.
The request should come only from an authorized trader.

Once you enter your User ID, click on the Connect button or press ENTER.
The Upgradable Client will perform a version check.
One of two things can happen, depending on the availability of newer versions:
Option 1:
If no newer version is detected, the login sequence will proceed after which the Main Tool will be
presented.
Option 2:
If a newer version is detected, the newer version is automatically fetched from the exchange server.
This is indicated with the 'Fetching update for' message.
The newer version will be downloaded
automatically, and installed. Depending on the
internet speed and size of the download, this
process can take a short while.
This procedure requires a restart of the
Upgradable Client once to execute the update, for
which you will be prompted in a dialog.

M7 What is the Message Interface?
The Message Interface (API) is:
a communication channel which can be used by the market participant to send/receive specially
formatted standardized messages to/from M7
an additional optional access, ComTrader remains available
an interface against which the market participants can program a software.
The Message Interface (API) is not: an application which can be used as such, a software has to be
programmed first by an IT service in order to use it.
M7
© EPEX SPOT – All rights reserved – Strictly confidential 51 © EPEX SPOT – All rights reserved – Strictly confidential 51
M7 Message Interface functionalities (I)
Communication with the system by:
Receiving in real time updated information from M7 :
Market Data (Order Book/Own Order/Own Trade)
Reference Data (Market status/Trading limit)
Interacting with M7 :
Order Management (access to the market)
Reference Data (Market status/Trading limit)
Use of the above listed functionalities is up to the market participants who have to design and implement
by their own their applications, depending on individual needs
The implementation done by the market participants can either be:
Read-only (no interaction with the market)
Or read-write (interaction with the market, via order management)
M7
© EPEX SPOT – All rights reserved – Strictly confidential 52 © EPEX SPOT – All rights reserved – Strictly confidential 52
M7 Message Interface functionalities (II)
The Message Interface (API) allows the market participants to have access to the same data as
through the ComTrader access
The data are provided via the Message Interface (API) with no delay compared to the ComTrader
access
The market participants can build a software which fully responds to their identified needs
Several uses of the Message Interface (API) can be performed, such as :
Quote machine
Back office application
GUI (Graphical User Interface)
Interface with own internal systems
etc ..

M7 IT details
The M7 Public Message Interface allows participants to communicate with the M7 System via a
programmable interface
The communication with the M7 System is based on Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP) as
transport layer, while the messages are formatted in XML
Before an application is released into production the market participant or its provider must perform tests in
simulation, covering all functionalities of the application

M7 Security Aspects
All communication between client and AMQP server is encrypted using TLS 1.2 protocol
Client and server certificates are used to establish a trusted connection
The client certificate:
complies to X.509v3 specification,
uses key length of 2048 bits,
subject contains an unique identifier as the Common Name,
is signed by Deutsche Börse CA,
is provided in format PKCS#12
Client actions are checked by the AMQP server:
Exchanges and queues configured by the client are monitored by AMQP server
AMQP server checks if a client has the proper rights when he sends inquiry or order management
request (This ensures no client can access confidential information)

Recommendations
Considering the extensive functionalities already available in ETS and M7 clients, it is recommended
for the participants interested in implementing the API for ETS and/or M7 to wait after go-live, having
therefore the time:
• To build a return on experience based on clients functionalities and to refine the need for an API
• To compare it to the required efforts to implement and to maintain an API
If API is strongly needed by the participants, using the service of a certified ISV is the recommended
option.
List of certified ISVs including contact details are available on our website:
