III. PROCEEDINGS The 26th District Assembly which was held on 12th December 2015 at Thulamahashe Church of the Nazarene. Opening Prayer and welcome The DS opened the Assembly session with a word of prayer. He introduced the office of the Field which was represented by two delegates; the Principal of the NTC, Rev Lebese Catherine and Mashangu Maluleka. The DS further introduced Mrs Maluleka who was requested to greet the Assembly. Word of GOD The presiding officer read from the book of Mark 1:35-39. He indicated the difference in writing of Mark, Matthew and Luke. He indicated the Mark’s style on writing is more on the life and the preaching of Jesus Christ unlike his counterparts whose focus includes the birth of Jesus Christ. It is interesting to note that the Church of the Nazarene is a group of sin forgiven sinners who have chosen to live like Christ. Jesus’Ministry was powered by prayer. Jesus would go on session alone so to be alone in prayer. Jesus had authority over Heaven and earth. He gave us His authority and we need to excersice this God given authority. He indicated the importance of being a missional church by going to next village. Assembly in session The Presiding officer officially declared that the Assembly is essencially in session DS’ report He read the report whilst interpretation was undertaken by Mr Mashaba PS. The report was accepted, welcome and voved in favor without any opposition. Election of the DS The ballot was for a vote YES or NO. The report was read by the secretary of the DAB. The report was accepted, welcome and voted in favor without opposition and questions.

Report of the Nomination board The report was read by the secretary of the nomination board. The report was accepted with the following questions: Why the ballot was read as vote for 3 under delegates to the General Assembly for Ministers yet it is written vote for 4 on the ballot. The presiding officer reported that the fourth vote will be that of the DS as an ex-officio delegate. Why was the name of Mdaka Clifford under the list of laity but not under the Ministers yet he is pasturing the Rolle church of the Nazarene? The presiding officer responded by indicating that Mr Mdaka Clifford’s pastoral qualification is still insufficient to qualify him as a Minister. Why was Pastor Sarah Ndlovu amongst the list of the Ministers yet she is not an Ordained elder? The response was that Pastor Sarah Ndlovu is a licensed Minister amd so her name was striped off the ballot as she was not eligible.

Understanding why someone behaves the way they do allows for

forgiveness; when they have mistreated you. Maybe they are insecure, or in pain, or maybe they even

suffered some type of abuse in their lifetime, and you can see why they are the way they are. But when

your compassion extends to excusing them for treating you poorly, over and over it not only damages

your self-worth, but prevents them from healing as well. Refuse to allow it to continue, for everyone’s

sake”, Doe Zantamata. In 2015 the district made history by taking compassionate ministry to Mozambique, three vans which were full of clothes and groceries and 110 people accompanied the district NMI Council to Mozambique, Matola District. On March 8th – 11th, a regional conference was held at GNCC. PROJECTION 2014-2017 (Making Disciples, Relationship and Impact)

Year 1: Making Disciples: (Matthew 28:18‐20) Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing

them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey

everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

(Matthew 28:18‐20)

A disciple of Jesus Christ follows Him, learns from Him, lives like Him, and leads others to do the same:

God has gifted each individual for their role to reach the lost for Christ.

Each of us is called to be a path toward spiritual maturity, which results in service, missions and discipleship.

Help young people and children to find a place where they can meet God in a relevant manner, experience heart-felt worship and engage with authentic holiness people.

Page 17: I. OFFICIAL DIRECTORY PAGE 1- 7 - Church of the …nazarene.org/sites/default/files/doclib/dj2016/South Africa RSA... · i. official directory page 1- 7 ... f.ntc representatives:2013-2017

New ways of teaching, learning and engagement are critical for continued spiritual growth in today’s complex and perplexed community.

Focus on spiritual growth through teaching and practicing the spiritual disciplines, accountability, open discussion, evangelism, stewardship and service in a small group setting.

Equip children, youth, young and senior adults to make disciples.

Provide service learning opportunities and gifts training to inspire, equip, mobilise members for service, emphasise stewardship of time, finances, and talent.

to make them little Christs".

Year 2: Make relationships: (Acts 2:42-47)

We glorify God as we follow Christ’s example of ministering through relationships

Increase opportunities for intergenerational connections through:

Utilise worship services and all ministries to be a warm and welcoming environment for all people, assimilating them into holistic ministry of the church.

Be a church where God is exalted in Christ-centred worship through creative use of story-telling, music, prayer and proclamation of God’s word.

Enlist and train members to become caring shepherds for current and prospective members, encouraging the church as body of Christ to minister to the community.

Examine all Church programmes, identify needs and customise new or existing methods to meet those needs

Year 3: Make an impact

We desire to make an impact for Christ in our communities, using our gifts, talent, our time and resources

Provide more frequent missions leadership opportunities for youth & young adults.

Regularly and effectively take the gospel to new areas where the church of the Nazarene is not in place.

Increase exposure for a wide range of missions and evangelism activities in the community where every member will have a personal role in the efforts to reach the lost and minister to those in need by utilising a weekly missions spotlight, a quarterly Sunday School focus on missions and evangelism.

Encourage all members to serve in at least one evangelism activity each year.

Create a clear, comprehensive missions and evangelism plan each year.

Establish specific and deliberate programmes and initiatives for individual growth, holy living, and conferences for children, youth and adults.

Implementation plan

The district office will work with the pastors, local church boards, district auxiliaries and evangelism teams who will be part of one team. Action Steps:

Establish district zonal leadership teams and train them to be facilitators of this program

Give quarterly reports

Provide continuers training for zonal leadership teams

Desired Outcome:

Healthy relationship and communication between district and local churches.

Identifying the needs of our people and community at large.

Helping the district to strategise and to come with tactics that will help the district to grow.

21% growth in church membership.

15% growth in finances.

Starting of small groups Bible studies.

Continuation with Articles of Faith, VBS and Caravan.

50% of district programs will focus on developing local churches.

Planting 8 churches in the next 4 years.

Continue with oral Bible story telling.

DISTRICT ADVISORY BOARD SECRETARIAT’S REPORT 2015

Honourable General Superintendent Dr. Duarte, Presiding officer and Regional Director Dr. Chambo, Field Strategic Coordinator Rev. Maluleke, District Superintendent Rev. C.S. Ndlovu, protocol observed, I greet you all in the name of He who called us to serve and our soon coming King Jesus Christ Amen. I stand before this magnificent occasion to outline the giant strides that the District Advisory Board made on behalf of and in conjunction with all the great men and women of God who sacrificed all worldly pleasures for God’s Kingdom. Be reminded that our Lord made a promise that your labour for Him is never in vain. This passing year of our Lord has seen a greatly reduced number and incidents of churches teetering on the brink of being declared “churches in crisis” as compared to the previous years. We thus want to comment the unity of purpose that has been displayed by the local churches in building up the Kingdom of God. It is always pleasing and encouraging to see a great deal of cooperation between and amongst church members under the leadership of the pastor and the church board. We are however in the process of ensuring that we do not have a church in the District that does not have a “properly installed pastor” who will do their best to ensure the smooth running of that church. We have a diminishing number of these churches and we are working very hard to ensure that this situation is brought under control. The District Advisory Board has had yet another disappointing situation with two members of the clergy in our district having been found guilty of conduct unbecoming a member of the clergy as espoused in the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene. Rev. G.T. Mathebula has had his credentials suspended for a year whilst he undergoes a process of “rehabilitation” hoping for a return to a status of being declared a member in good standing. The District Credentials Board has been tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the smooth running of this process. The District Advisory Board is praying and wishing for a complete recovery of his status. The District Advisory Board also experienced an unpleasant situation with the seemingly unceremonious and reluctantly declared leaving of Rev. S. Manyike. The District Advisory Board has had several meetings with him to try and understand his position regarding his placement in another church following his resignation from the Okkernotboom Church some two years ago but to no avail. He promised to come back to us on his plans to start a new church in one of the villages within the jurisdiction of the Eastern District Church of the Nazarene but to no avail to this date. The District Advisory Board then decided to demand the return of his credentials which he has not done to this day. Yet another most recent disappointment was received by the District Advisory Board with the departure of Rev. J.N. Malibe. Sad as it is, we are confident that we have done everything humanly possible to persuade Rev Malibe to stay but all efforts have proven futile as it was obvious that his mind was already made and his departure was inevitable. The District Advisory Board met with the New-Creation Church Board in the presence of Rev. Malibe, this meeting was followed with a meeting with the entire church membership again in the presence of Rev. Malibe. Subsequent to these two meetings a meeting of the District Advisory Board and the Church Board was held in which a decision was taken to request Dr. E Letswele to serve as pastor of the church in the interim. We would like to thank Dr. Letswele for his willingness to serve God when requested to, even on his retirement. Our prayers are both with him and the church as they continue to find and disciple the lost. We had churches this year that were allocated pastors with the approval of the District Advisory Board. Rev. Calson M. Mtungwa is now pastor for the Islington Church after he received the call from that church. This effectively means that Rev. Mtungwa has left the Burlington Church of the Nazarene; the District Advisory Board is in the process of assisting the church to find a replacement for him. Secondly, we would like to warmly welcome Pastor Tintswalo Sibuyi to the Eastern District after she was assigned the responsibility of pastoring the Summerset Church of the Nazarene. We want to take this opportunity to wish Rev. Mtungwa and Pastor Sibuyi all the Lord’s Blessings in their new assignments. We held a total of thirteenmeetings in the passing year, these meetings include planned meetings of the DAB as well as meetings of the DAB with local churches whose aim was on the main to assist these churches with some challenges they faced. May I take this time to thank the entire advisory board individually and collectively for your unwavering support and for your trust in me to represent you? I will be doing injustice to this report if I could forget to thank my family especially my wife Bongi and my kids Skhulile, Nkateko and Mikateko for their understanding and support as I do God’s work and seem to deprive them of their God given privilege to have me around every time they need to. Above all I thank God for giving me a rare opportunity to serve him by making the small contribution I can make to His kingdom. Submitted by Clifford Mikateko Mdaka (Secretary – DAB)

It is with a great pleasure to stand before the servants of the Lord and present this report on behalf of the above mentioned board. We had a wonderful year, full of challenges and Blessings but the Lord has been so good to us. As a board we would like to express our gratitude to Rev Ndlovu CS for the wonderful support to the entire board. You have proven beyond reasonable doubt that you care much for the success of our District. Meetings We had eight meetings for licensing our Pastors, and conducting classes of Pastors for ordination. We are so happy to announce to this Assembly that the following Ministers have been ordained: Rev Manyike Norman, Rev Sibuyi Solly and Rev Ndlovu Norma. We love to congratulate them and indeed to wish them the best in their Ministries as they continue to seek for the lost. The board is in a close monitory in the progress of rehabilitation of Rev Sibuyi Getrude under the leadership of Rev Nxumalo Reineth. Reports indicate that there is a remarkable Spiritual progress; and furthermore, her cooperation in this light is quite satisfactory. It is with a sad note though to announce to this Assembly that Rev Mathebula Godfrey is under discipline, and he has already surrendered his Credentials. Onceagain, Rev Malibe Jeffrey has also surrendered his Credentials in order to pursue his call to another field of preaching. Licensing The following Pastors have appeared before the Credentials board and we are recommending them to this Assembly to be licenced for the church year 2015/2016; they have met all the requirements for continuity in God’s service: Mgiba Sellina; Sambo Edith; Silaule Mildreth; Mnisi Tsakani; Nyathi Dorah; Ndlovu Sarah; Mnisi Thomas; Dzambukeri Margareth; Mkhonto Lindiwe,Tibane Raymond; MzimbaThembisile Maggy; Ubisi Hellen; Mokoena Genton; Mabaso Nelly; Mabunda Nelly; Mthethwa Gideon; Kanju Lesaya; Mokone Sainah; Sibuyi Livingstone; Mdaka Clifford, Mokoena Daniel; and Moagi Florence. We further managed to have a session with all the students who have registered with ANSE in all the centres which are operating within the District. Once again, we love to make a public announcement to this Assemby that Pastor Mgiba Maurice and Pastor Theto Joyce have requested to retire at the end of 2015. May our lovely God bless them for the wonderful service they have rendered in the Eastern District. Plans for 2016

DISTRICT MINISTERIAL STUDIES BOARD 2015 REPORT

The General Superintendent, Dr Euge’nio Duarte; The Regional Director, Dr. Filimao Chambo; The Field Stratregic Coordinator, Rev Mashangu Maluleka; The District Superintendent, Rev Ndlovu Solomon; Pastors; members of the Assembly and visitors, be greeted in the wonderful name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Ministerial studies board had two official meetings for planning and discussing how the LSC as a satellite in our district should function. In this light, Rev Tshavele VN is still in charge of the centre and our appreciation as a board goes to him for his endless dedication and commitment to its success. We have 19 students which include both the first and second year; all of them have enrolled for Diploma in Theology. We have one co-ordinator and four facilitators. Classes are conducted from Monday to Wednesday/Thursday every three months (quarterly) and they write examination thereafter. Class attendance by students continues to improve and we commend them for their commitment; moreover, facilitators’ energy and skills towards their calling is still intact, and for that we applaud them. This year 2015 we had four students who graduated after successful completion of their studies; and their names are: MnisiThomas, Mashego Robert, Shabangu Maria and Nxumalo Griffis. As a board we would like to wish them well in their calling. In 2016, the following fifteen students will be graduating after successful completion of their studies: Diploma in theology Candidates Pevane Meckson, Masinga Phillip, Masinga Granny, Liwele Ephraim, Mashego Sankie, Nxumalo David, Sibuyi Livingstone, Ngobeni Sipho, Ndlovu Joyce, Mokone Sainah, Makhubele Grace and MkansiThandiwe. Certificate Candidates: Kanju Lesaya, Mbowane Anania and Mthethwa Gideon. We have three centres at Hluvukani, Thulamahashe and Mkhuhlu. In these centres, we offer Pastoral Courses, Certificate and counselling. The main aim of the ministerial studies board is to ensure that all pastors have profiles that indicate their personal information and qualification in order for us to develop them; as a result, we have failed to have our pastors’ retreat as planned due to over commitments of the pastors. Our church manual states that all pastors should have points on personal development hence all pastors should have to carry the mandate. We therefore encourage the Local churches and the District in particular to assist their own pastors to upgrade themselves in their studies as a way of self-development. Activities A graduation ceremony was held on the march 2015 at NTC, of which, 4 students from our District had graduated. Challenges Financial constraints continue to disrupt the smooth running of our centre; again shortage of facilitators and resources such as library, our own centre and co-ordinator’s office top the list. Plans To have a pastors’ retreat earlier next year; to introduce Saturday classes so to assist those who find it difficult to attend during the week due to work commitments; to establish classes/seminar to assist Licensed Ministers; to encourage self-support churches to consider sabbatical leave to equip their pastors and to encourage pastors to upgrade themselves. Humbly Submitted Mbowane D.B. (Secretary)

Challenges The evangelism board faced multiple challenges about securing sites for planting new churches. We recommend that all local churches planning to conduct revivals should use the District Evangelism board for their annual revivals in 2016, as part of fundraising to assists on the mentioned long term goals Conclusion You and I were put on this District to serve something greater than our narrow interests, when our focus become self-centered instead of Evangelizing the Lost, we lose our greatest sources of power. Our God given Spiritual gift meant to benefit others, when we use them for that greater purpose, we put out faith into God to fulfil the great commission, we make a difference in this world that helps prepared souls for heaven. I greet you all in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. I am privileged today to present our second report since we took office in 2013. Unlike last year our report this year is something to be proud of. Meetings We met nine times this year at the district centre. One of these meetings was to provide feedback to both pastors and trustees from local churches. We also had meetings with the zones; zone A at Cottendale, zone B at Eglington, zone C at Thulamahashe and zone D at Oakley. In all these meetings we were discussing our district centre as it was our priority. Progress at the District Centre Our hall has been plastered and treated to prevent termites; Window frames of our offices has been installed; doors and locks of our offices has been purchased; Palisades for the entire district site has been installed; Security guard has been hired to take care of our building material; the site has been cleared of bushes and unwanted trees and the entrance is clear; Beam filling is nearly complete and 120meter borehole has been drilled; we now have the district centre site map and our district centre has electricity; we constructed water stand and bought electrified our centre; we assisted Masingita to get a new site and we are currently assisting Ntshovelo and Lillydale. Gratitude We congratulate our DS for taking care of the district vehicle and Mr Mashaba for taking care of our office and its equipment. We are proud to have people like Dr Khoza Ruel who contributed R300 000 and Ms Ngobeni Grace from Acornhoek, who gave R10 000 this year to the district centre, we pray that God give them more years of good health and bless them with more. We thank Mr Manzini Trust of Werdverdied for ploughing the seed in the centre by giving us R3500. God bless you. We also want to acknowledge the receipt of seven bags and two bags of cement from Mr Ceko of Islington and Mrs Manyike of Buirlinton. May the good Lord give you the desires of your hearts. Special thanks also goes to Reverend Kanju and family for hiring a TLB to clean up the district centre, may the good Lord bless you. We also appreciate the NYI under the leadership of Mr Ngobeni Marvel for volunteering their service by cleaning and painting our palisades. We also want to thank members of the centre board for their tireless effort towards the construction at the district centre. May our Lord Jesus Christ bless them and their families. We also acknowledge the contributions by our pastors and members of the district standing committees for giving their monies toward the district centre. May our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ take care of your belongings. We also appreciate churches who value the construction of the district centre by their faithful payments of their allocated funds. Without you we would not be reporting progress today. May our God bless the entire membership. We also acknowledge the good work by Newinton C under the leadership of Rev. Sibuyana for extending their church building with the aim of increasing its capacity, it’s a job well done. Challenges at the District centre We did not reach our funds raising targets, in both palisades and cements projects. Recommendations We appeal to all churches to assist the properties board in securing sites for new preaching points, particularly in the new villages next to them, since it is difficult to find one after all plots has been occupied. We recommend that all local churches and district auxiliaries submit copies of their asset register to be filled by the properties board. We recommend that all churches submit their deed of grants to the district office. Conclusion We are all team members, and that is just what it is the Eastern District Unlimited! A very important team. There is a big job to be done – an important game to be won! Every team member is important. We are not ‘subs’, nor ‘bench warmers’. We are on the ‘first string’. We must be on the field playing with all we have. Together we will win the game! It takes all of us. You will be happy as you become involved. Participate wholeheartedly. Give of your time in voluntary service. Give of your money as worship to God. Give of your talents. Give of yourself in prayer and service. You will find it ‘more blessed to give than to receive’ (Acts 20:35). My pastor used to say, ‘Many hands make light work”. God is depending on your hands and on my hands. Your hands will be of great blessing as they begin lifting, giving and helping with the greatest work at Andover – building God’s Kingdom. Presented Mnisi Thomas (Secretary)
