SOME FACTS ABOUT TEXTILE RECYCLING As you know, Thrift Life Style aka Fab Finds LLC is the voice for your local non-profit thrift stores. We tell their stories and keep you updated with events and where your money goes when you shop the stores.Motto: Thrifters keep thrifting and recycle your money back into your community! Something you may not know even the non-sellable items are reused and recycled, saving our landfills, the whole cycle is extremely Eco friendly.

100,000 donated sneakers saves 715 cubic meters of landfill space.Sneakers are made up of about 80% petroleum and take over 50 years to start breaking down - Up to 1000 years to degrade. Textile recycling provides about 17,000 jobs every year. The US generates 82 lbs of waste textiles per person every year, only 12 lbs are recycled leaving 70 lbs to be hauled off to landfills.

An estimated 14.3 million tons of textiles were generated in 2012 or 5.7% of total solid waste generation. The recovery rate of all textiles was only 15.7% in 2012.

In the US,75% of pre-consumer textile waste is recycled by manufacturers, but only 15% of post-consumer waste is recycled.

One in four American women own seven pairs of jeans but only wear four of them regularly.Over 70% of the world's population uses second-hand clothes.

Nearly 100% of donated textiles are recycled. The materials are separated into three grades.

• Usable Clothing (45%)• Wiping Cloth Grades (30%)• Fiber Conversion Grades (21%)

The “UNIT PRICE”. What is unit price and retail price?

In retail, unit price is the price for a single unit of measure of a product sold. The “unit price” tells you the cost per pound, quart, ounce or other unit of weight. It is posted on the shelf below the food so you can compare different brands and sizes to the costs. The problem is that stores don’t always have aconsistent unit. For example one may be in total unit cost and another divided per weight. Unit price is the cost assigned by a retailer to a given item under a particular measurement label. For example, you might see price per ounce, per pound, per bar or per box. Unit price matters becauseretailers and manufacturers have different sized packages, such as regular and family-sized cereal.Looking at the unit price gives you a consistent tool by which to determine which package is cheaper, bigger doesn’t always mean you’ll save- see above- The larger item is more expensive per ounce then the smaller one. If you bought two small ones to equal the same larger size the price is $3.48 a savings of 21 cents.

It’s sometimes difficult to tell which item is cheaper if all the measurement units on the items are different. It’s a little like wanting to play a game but having all the players have a different set of rules. Stores don’t always have a consistent unit. For example, they might use per ounce for cheese and per pound for meat. Part of the unit price lesson therefore is converting one unit to another. At first, it can help to have a chart for this. You could also use a mobile application on your phone or similar device as you shop.

Fab Finds had the pleasure of being allowed to tag along with our friend Gary to visit Single Vision so he could donate his truck to his good friend Carl owner of Single Vision.

After a long drive down a dirt road we arrived at Single Vision, this was fairly easy to spot with a steel gate and tall fence with iron cut out of bears, tigers, etc.

Once inside, our tour was very educational and interactive, what a great place to visit with the kids or for any animal enthusiast. We had a blast learned alot about each animal and where they are from, Carl is Extremely knowledgeable about all of the animals. You can check it all out and read Carl’s Biowww.singlevisioninc.org. to find out how Single Vision began.

Endangered Species Educational FacilityFor Single Vision the purpose is not to just provide a home for the beautiful exotic species that they house, but meet the animals physical and psychological needs by enriching their lives with daily inter-species play and human interaction outside their daily enclosure.

Tips and Tricks for Thrift Store Shopping!!!

There are many types of thrifters, some are name brand driven. They tend to look at labels first and then what it looks like, I have even seen these thrifters purchase the items solely on the brand, I am sure it will be for resale somewhere because there is no way they are making the purchase for them

self. Keep on thrifting, thrifters regardless of the reason and keep supporting our non-profit stores, its recycling you money back into your community.

Brand and label shopping is great if you know who is who in the label fashion world. I for one, am a

“by sight” thrifter, if I like the way it looks ”its mine”!! I only look at the label after I find what I like and even then I couldn’t tell you if it is a high fashion brand? Sometimes when its clothing, I have to

confess, I may have found it, tried it on and purchased it before I look at the brand. Although being a “by sight thrifter” I have found some pretty fabulous finds!!

My personal goal when thrifting is to please myself, look good and save money$$. I am waiting for the day when someone approaches me and says” I think that was mine, I donated it to___” FUN!!!
