Sometimes, long term relationships are difficult to sustain. This is whathappens to some when they lose their trust in Christ. They expect theirprayers to be answered and when they don’t hear they are lured away tobelieve soothsayers. God hears our prayers and He may not want toanswer because He may later have a better answer at an appropriate timefor us, or He may not at all because it doesn’t meet His needs or will; wemust meet the desire He wants us to have. This is why in Luke 18:8, Jesus asks, “when He comes, will He find faith onearth.” When we look at this world, the people are moving towards thesmut of this world. Look at the western world, it is getting worse day byday and Asian countries are leaning in that direction too. Let us look atour own nation - is there any government currently available to rule thiscountry with credibility? Corruption, plundering of wealth, injustice anddivision among the people, brought about by political strife seems to bethe norm.  We need faith minute by minute, moment by moment, and howwonderful it is. How real, having such need of faith; Grace creates faith and as faith grows, humility begins in us. How splendidit is to be like children expecting everything from the Lord.

Just like many other activities, Alpha 17 did not take off on April 1, 2020 dueto Covid-19.  It was the first time since 2012 that an Alpha Semester wascancelled in FBC. But God is faithful, He leads us to explore an alternative– Alpha_Online!  (Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the LORD with all your heartand lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him,and He will make your paths straight). Alpha_Online was first suggested by our Chairman Dr Peter Ng after thepostponement of Alpha 17. Guests were not interested to participate and theAlpha Team thought we would miss out on the close rapport and personalbonding, the ingredients necessary for a successful Alpha Four weeks into the MCO, Alpha_Online was mooted again, this time bythe Alpha Course Leader, as it looked like social and religious gatheringswould not be allow for some time. Again, the response was lukewarm fromthe Team. Wanting to know more, a Team member contacted Alpha Malaysia for anupdate. Interestingly, Alpha Online was already popular in India and twochurches in Malaysia were already conducting Alpha Online. Even Alphafounder Nicky Gumbel himself had gone online! Alpha Malaysia shared on how Alpha Online sessions were conducted - theresources, tools, processes and lessons learnt. Alpha_Online was a wholenew adventure without any official guidelines or SOPs . It is like “we arebuilding the plane as it flies”.

On April 22, 80 participants, including our Team, from 30 churches allover Malaysia attended the Zoom training conducted by Alpha Malaysia.A subsequent online Holy Weekend was also attended by the Team. The seeds were sown. The Team visualized the reach of Alpha Online, nomore constrained by food, physical space, distance, weather and travel. Itcould be held in small groups of 10 and at any time . As passion and confidence grew, Alpha 17  was launched  online with theIntro Night on June 3. Challenges were identified, mitigation plan put inplace, processes were detailed, helpers recruited and training and mock-up sessions were conducted. Prayer support was requested for God toshow us direction and to give wisdom and confidence to the Team offacilitators and helpers. We are 10 days to the Intro-Night of Alpha 17 Online. The team is cautiousof the challenges ahead which include (i) the use of IT tools by theseniors (ii) quality of the online meeting due to internet bandwidth and(iii) engagement with guests in a virtual setting. But the Team is equallyexcited as the online program is a powerful platform to share the  gospelto anyone, anywhere without any geographical constraint. We are yet to know the outcome and  future of  Alpha Online. We can onlydo our part, continue to pray and surrender the outcome to Him (Job 42:2- "I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted").
