The event is The March Washington. This is the event that happened in 1963 when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous speech “I Have a Dream.”

This document was written because the author felt the he needed to make a difference in his community. He wanted it to be a non racial community and for everyone to treat each other the same.

The person who wrote this document is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He contributed to the March on Washington by giving his speech on this event.

Interpretation

The structure of the document is that it is organized in a numbered way in paragraphs.

Martin Luther King uses parallel structure to get his message across to his audience. Parallel structure is the repeated use of language to emphasize a point. “I have a dream” is repeated several times throughout the speech.

King emphasizes that his dream can be expressed in many different ways.

Interpretation

Martin Luther King Jr. wrote the document to stop segregation and make everyone have equal rights.

Interpretation

Three supporting arguments are Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality.

Another supporting argument is also Negros cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities.

Last but not least all negro’s basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one.

Meaning

This document is important to American history because it shows that Dr. Martin Luther Jr. was able to stop segregation without any violence no matter what. He brought both black and white people together and now we can all be together instead of being separate from each other. His speech "Yes we can" played a big part of making that happen because it influenced them to be together. Now in the future we can look back and see the great accomplishment he did. 

Meaning

I was shocked of how one single person was able to do this even when everyone was doubting and mostly a lot of people wanted to kill him. That is someone that a lot of people should look up to for what he did I know I do.

These parts of this document affected my team members personally because both there grandmothers were there at the time and experienced everything that happened.

Meaning

This document supports American Character because it represents individual freedom, equality of opportunity, and “Can Do Spirit.”
