GACC To Discuss Two Proposals on Lindsey Gardens Off-Leash Area.By Gwen Springmeyer GACC Chair

Gwen Springmeyer

In December the Board of the Greater Avenues Community Coun-cil received a proposal to expand the existing off-leash dog park in Lindsey Gardens. At the January GACC Community Meeting, a sec-ond proposal was presented to pre-serve the multi-use status of Lindsey Gardens and to encourage the City to fence the existing off-leash dog park in Lindsey Gardens. Both proposals were discussed at the January GACC Community Meeting. Both proposals are posted on the GACC website www.slc-avenues.org.

An additional discussion regarding the two proposals will take place at the February 6 GACC Community Meet-ing. A vote will be taken by written ballot. Only GACC members who are present may vote. The results of that vote will be forwarded to the Salt Lake City Public Servic-es Administrative Director. This will fulfill the role of the GACC as outlined in the governing City Council Resolu-tion on citizen petitions. The City may or may not consider this information as a final decision is reached.

The DiscussionA sign-up sheet will be provided for individuals who

wish to speak during the discussion. The moderator will call speakers alternating between both proposals. To main-tain the meeting as a place where people feel comfortable, please observe the following rules of decorum and civility:

• There will be no demonstrations for or against an is-sue, including the waving of placards or pictures.

• Please observe a two-minute time limit so everyone may have a chance to speak.

• The Council expects speakers to be gracious to those with opposing views.

• The Council expects people to listen respectfully to speakers and not jeer at them or cheer or clap for them.

The VoteOnly GACC members may vote. GACC members are

defined as any person 16 years of age or older who is a

resident, property owner, or owner of a licensed business operating in the Greater Avenues District. The district runs from Canyon Road on the West to the City Limits on the East. From City Creek Canyon on the north to South Temple on the South. Individuals wishing to vote will sign in with the Ballot Committee providing their Avenues address. Each voter will receive two ballots, one for each proposal. The ballots will be counted that evening and the result of the vote will be announced.

The City ProcessThe GACC Board will prepare a communication

regarding the vote and deliver it to the Salt Lake City Public Services Director of Administrative Services. The City Parks personnel will evaluate the proposals regarding established development guidelines. During this process, they will meet with interested parties to address any issues. After this process, they will make a final recommendation to the Public Services Department Director. Requests that meet development guidelines will be recommended to the City Administration for further review and endorsement.
