Two Main Types
1. Chronologicala. Reverse work history
b. Preferred by recruiters
2. Functionala. Organizes skill by category
Resume Best Practices
Use short sentences or bullet points No personal data Provide a summary or objective to let
recruiter know what you are looking for Do not repeat words in your descriptions Use strong action words in your
descriptions

Use key words from job posting Proofread: check spelling and grammar Font size should be 11 at the smallest and
12 is the best Arial and Times are good fonts to use One to two pages maximum Use a template but make it your own

Do not use slang or too many acronyms Do not use “I” or “me” Do not use colored background, fancy

The Hiring Process

Make sure you have everything you need and enough time to complete before you start the on-line process
E-mail address should be business appropriate
Phone number listed should be answered professionally along with voice mail message
Ensure you are qualified for job
Cover Letter
Typically not enough room to include so use objective statement to explain what you are looking for
Bring several copies of cover letter to interview
Resume
Keep in simple formatting for easy upload Bullet points typically convert very poorly Bring several copies to the interview
Tips
Spell check, spell check, spell check Make sure application is filled out
completely and accurately Research location of job to see if it is a
comfortable commuting distance Refrain from applying several positions at
one time especially within one organization
