BMW has used, depending on year and model, both orange and red for the oil pressure lamp. BMW also moved the oil lamp to the second from the top, instead of second from bottom

BMW has had several types of switch gear, and in the early years of transitioning to the /6 series, any of THREE types could be installed, so yours may vary, and in the USA you may not have the 3 position switch in the left sketch at all.

BMW's advice here for position 1 of the damper is OK, but if you have the steering adjusted properly, which is a bit tighter than BMW advises later herein, you should use position 0, and 1 and 2 for very loose and rocky-pebbly roads or roads with distinct rain grooves.

Wheel bearing service is tricky on these models, so see my website:http://bmwmotorcycletech.info.The wheel hubs MUST BE HEATED for servicing of the bearings.

NEVER lift spark plug caps off a running engine. Use SHORTING adapters. BMW is wrong here.ALSO, I recommend that the idle rpm speed after full warmup be 900 to 1025 rpm for best carburetor operation and best oiling of the timing chain and sprockets.

Information on synchronizing carburetors is on my website, and it is available there in two types, one for shorting the spark plugs method and the other is for vacuum gauge method. Use a higher rpm than BMW says, perhaps 900-1025 rpm for idle AFTER FULL WARMUP, which means AFTER A 10 MILE MINIMUM RIDE.

NEVER, EVER, lift the spark plug caps while engine is running. To shut off one cylinder, do NOT lift the cap, but use shorting adaptors!!!

Never, EVER, lift the spark plug caps. Use shorting adaptors!! Adjust for equal SOUND, shorting first one, then the other.

Sticky Note
NEVER, EVER use grease on the spark plug threads. If you wish, use a commercial antiseize paste, sparingly, and reduce torque 1/4th to 1/3. NEVER EVER re-gap a spark plug after it has been run even once..the metal can break, damaging the engine.

The F timing is much more important than the S, so set the timing for the F dot, after you adjust the points gap.3000+ rpm.
