With the summer holidays over (and normality returned!), thinking about next year’s break may not be the fi rst thing on your mind, but booking early for next year has real advantages and gives you peace of mind.

Bid farewell to the

summertime blues

2

Having set sail with your children before, you’ll know that cruising offers the best of both worlds; a safe, fun and action packed environment for younger passengers and a relaxing haven for adults, where cooking, cleaning and the school run can be forgotten for a few weeks. Our family-friendly ships (there are four in total) are all fi tted with fantastic children’s facilities and The Reef children’s club has organised activities in place from early morning until long after sunset. We also understand that children have their favourites when it comes to food so there’s a children’s tea every day. And although dressing for dinner is an occasion grown ups relish, our smaller passengers are often not as keen! That’s why, even on Black Tie evenings, children don’t have to be quite so formal. You can read more about our family facilities on pages 6 and 7 while your children can fi nd out what happens in The Reef on pages 8 to 11.

But it’s not just about the facilities on board. During your cruise you’ll be visiting a whole host of beautiful destinations and we want to make sure your family are just as happy on land as they are at sea. In each and every port we’ve extensively researched the local attractions to uncover sights that are perfectly suited to children of all ages. From waterparks to aquariums and theme parks, in many destinations you’ll fi nd a selection of shore excursions that tick all the family boxes. And by joining one of these organised trips ashore, you can relax knowing everyone is in safe hands and we’ll look after

all the fi ner details. On pages 12 to 19 we’ve picked out a few of our most popular destinations to give you an overview of the types of excursions available.

Book early for 2013All the cruises featured within this leafl et sail during the school holidays and all benefi t from Vantage Fares – this means that when you book a cruise of 7 nights or more, you can choose to either receive on board spending money, or car parking at the cruise terminal, or return coach travel to Southampton. Plus, should we reduce your fare before you sail, we’ll automatically pass on the value to you in the form of a complimentary benefi t such as on board spending money or a cabin upgrade. You’ll fi nd full details of our Price Promise on pages 4 and 5. With our Vantage Fares you are able to book cabins with additional berths which benefi t from our Family Saver discounts (see page 7). Also by booking early you are more likely to secure the itinerary and cabin of your choice. The majority of our cruises also feature cabins with extra berths, either in the form of a Pullman bed or sofa bed (we supply travel cots for babies). The fare grids for each cruise detail these savings.

Visiting destinations across Europe, there’s a total of 23 cruises to choose from with durations ranging from 3 to 17 nights. With a wonderful adventure to look forward to next summer, your children won’t be the only ones counting down the days!

What to bring Families very rarely travel light and the younger your family, the more essentials there seem to be. That’s why, if you choose a cruise that departs from and returns to Southampton, there are no restrictions on the amount of luggage you can bring. So long as you can fi t it comfortably into your cabin then you’re welcome to bring as many essentials as you like. This means that prams are welcome, as is a favourite travel cot, as many supplies as you need and, of course, armfuls of favourite toys to make your little one’s holiday as enjoyable as yours.

Going ashoreThe fun needn’t stop when your ship arrives in port. With a range of family-friendly shore excursions available at many destinations, you and your family can make the most of your time ashore. All activities are professionally organised and range from jeep safaris to transfers to local beaches and waterparks.

Feeling safeWe know children love to be active and explore, so all of our children’s activities and facilities have been designed to be child-friendly. Each of the children’s club rooms feature high door handles and in the balcony cabins there are protective balcony nets,

available on request. There are ‘sign in’ and ‘sign out’ procedures so we know who’s with us at all times. All our Reef Rangers have extensive experience of planning and facilitating activities for 2-17 year olds, as well as having an enhanced CRB check. You can fi nd out more about the specifi c qualifi cations they have at www.pocruises.co.uk/family. Finally, in the unlikely event that you need them, our on board medical centres are fully equipped and staffed by qualifi ed doctors and nurses.

Dining and dress codesChildren are of course welcome in all of our restaurants, but we also offer a special children’s tea every night featuring all the food that children will enjoy: sausages, fi sh fi ngers and pizza to name just a few (for babies we offer a selection of baby food and infant milk). We also offer a range of healthy options, including fresh fruit and vegetarian dishes. These are all served in our informal buffet restaurants so children can be casually dressed whenever they eat there, and if children are going to be with you in the evening in the more formal restaurants and theatre then, even on our Black Tie and Smart evenings, children can still dress more casually adopting our Evening Casual dress code.

What’s included• Full access to The Reef, our supervised

children’s club with H2O for 13-17s; Scubas for 9-12s; Surfers for 5-8s and Splashers for 2-4 year olds

• Wide range of entertainment offered throughout the day and evening (opening times will be clearly displayed on board), which has been specifi cally designed to appeal to each age group

• Night Nursery for the 5s and under available from 6pm to 2am and Slumber Time† for 5-8s from 10.30pm to midnight

• Personal appearances from Noddy and Mr. Bump from the Mr. Men Show

• Children’s tea served daily

• Use of travel cots*

Facilities are subject to availability, book your holiday early to guarantee access to the clubs

There are limited infant/child and teen places available on all cruises. It is advisable to book as soon as possible if intending to take advantage of the Family Savers offer, as only a limited number of these extra beds are available for use by children on each cruise. Please note Family Savers are not available on the fi rst two occupants or on single occupancy.

You can buy a soft drinks package for your children at the start of your cruise, just to make life, and budgeting, a little easier, though we do ensure some of the bars and public rooms on board are exclusive to adults (aged 16 and over).

You can find out exactly what each ship has to offer at www.pocruises.co.uk/family

After darkAfter dark our ships offer the perfect babysitting service, a fully supervised night nursery for 5s and under is available from 6pm to 2am and Slumber Time† for 5-8 year olds where your little ones can sleep under the watchful eyes of our fully trained staff between 10.30pm to midnight. The night nursery and Slumber Time are both free of charge. We’ll give you a pager in case we need to contact you.

Please note we are unable to carry babies under the age of six months on any of our holidays for health and safety reasons.

Costing your family holiday

Family savers - available with Vantage FaresIf you’re travelling with children or teenagers, our Family Savers offer generous reductions by utilising the extra beds that are contained in a number of cabins. In twin cabins these extra beds are upper pullman berths (except for selected Aurora cabins where there are sofa beds). Aurora, Azura, Oceana and Ventura have a number of cabins that can accommodate a travel cot for an infant aged over 6 months and under 2 years.

Underneath the fare grids on pages 13 to 18, you will fi nd the Family Savers reductions, as illustrated below. Family Savers are applicable to the extra beds found in some of our cabins. To calculate the family fare, the fi rst two occupants pay the adult fare for the grade concerned, then deduct the Family Savers reduction for a child/teenager (aged 2-16). The Family Savers reductions can be found beneath the fare grids. This does not apply to BE grade Suites on Azura and Ventura, which are based on 4 full paying adult passengers.

School’s out

for summer!

8

We’re as excited as you are when the summer holidays start because it means the next few months on board will be fun fi lled and action packed! So say goodbye to school uniforms and homework and hello to game shows, discos, arts and crafts, sports challenges, Mr. Bump and Noddy!

Hanging around with Mum and Dad while you’re on holiday might not be very exciting; who wants to sit and read a book all day or go shopping? Boring! That’s why The Reef is on board. It’s a parent free paradise for children of every age!

The Reef is split into four age groups so you can hang around with children of your own age - no little brother spoiling your fun or big sister trying to boss you around! Each group has its own room where you can either chill out or join in the fun activities our Reef Rangers have organised for you. The rooms are open from early in the morning until late at night and you can come and go as you please (you’ll just need an adult to sign you in and out). In fact, there’s so much going on in The Reef that you might not see very much of Mum and Dad at all. Brilliant!

Visit the Cyber Reef at www.pocruises.co.uk/reef to fi nd out more about The Reef, your Reef Rangers and to play fun games and quizzes.

You may be small but we know you’re big on energy so there’s not a moment to spare in the day of a Splasher. Our Reef Rangers have so many fun things for you to do. You can run around in the soft play area, get messy with the water and paint, play with the puppets and even dance with Noddy! There’s lots of adventures for you to go on too. One day you might be a pirate searching for buried treasure, the next a pilot fl ying high through the sky. We can’t wait for you to jump in and join the fun!

Hello little ones. At your age we realise that you love spending time with your family so we’d like you to bring them along with you to The Reef. We think you’ll love the soft play, toys and games so come on in and enjoy the fun! You’ll just need to make sure you stay close to Mummy or Daddy (or whoever you invite along) so that they can look after you while you play.

Night, Night. Sleep tightWhen it comes to bedtime on board, if you’re 8 and under you can join us in The Reef. Bring your favourite teddy and blanket and curl up with us as we read stories, watch movies and gently sail into the land of nod. For the super small ones, cuddle up with Mummy and Daddy for bedtime kisses before they settle you to sleep in your cot.

5-8 year oldsPoopity-poop! Mr. Bump from the Mr. Men Show is on board and he’s waiting to say a huge hello! He’s often popping in to play with the Surfers because he knows you all love to have fun – just watch he doesn’t knock you over! When Mr. Bump’s not bumbling around, your Reef Rangers will be organising mini Olympics, treasure hunts, quizzes, obstacle courses and lots of adventure play. There’s also a soft play area and loads of games, lego, computer consoles and books to keep you busy.

Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen is a fairytale of a town. Visit princess perfect Frederiksborg Castle which sits in the centre of its own little lake, or Kronborg Castle where Hamlet famously found himself at home. Tivoli Gardens (said to have inspired Disneyland) is a magical place for both the young and young at heart, with exciting rides and beautifully manicured gardens all in the heart of the city. Just outside Copenhagen is the Open Air Museum, set in 86 acres. Here you’ll bump into costumed workers tending to their daily chores among the 50 farms, mills and houses that span the 1650s to 1950s. And of course, delicious Danish pastries are a must for the whole family!

A scene straight out of Ice Age, the glaciers of this region are a spectacular sight to behold. And an unusual way to get up close and personal with them is via Troll car; quirky mini modes of transport that trundle along the mountain paths. A more adventurous alternative is by water. With oars in hand, paddle your way between the fl oating ice on Briksdal Glacier Lake, with the beautiful Briksdal Glacier as your backdrop. If you prefer boats with a little more roar than oar, hop aboard a RIB where your captain will perform a few heart racing manoeuvres before cruising through the inner part of Nordfjord. An alternative bird’s eye view of the scenery can be found at the Huaren Viewpoint. The hike there, to 980 foot above sea level, is a great way to stretch your sea legs.

A home from home, Gibraltar is a fi rm favourite with us Brits and everyone must fi rst say hello to the famous residents of the Rock; the Barbary apes who wander freely amidst the tourists. Once you’ve been to the top of the Rock, venture inside to explore the intricate network of tunnels created during WWII that once housed a hospital, power station, military headquarters and accommodation for nearly 10,000 troops and civilians. Another underground adventure can be found in St. Michael’s Cave, a large natural cavern fi lled with stalactites and stalagmites that is supposedly linked to Africa by a 15-mile-long passage under the straits! The waters of Gibraltar are a prime dolphin spotting territory, so for an experience to remember, hop aboard a boat trip into the bay and keep your eyes peeled for friends of Flipper.

Famous for the colourful works of Gaudi and unfi nished Sagrada Familia, there’s something to suit all ages in Barcelona. Thrill seekers can get their kicks on one of the 21 attractions at Fantasy Island Waterpark while football fans can visit Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona and the largest football stadium in Europe. For fi t families there’s a fun guided tour of the Gothic Quarter by bike, while those who prefer a more sedate sightseeing experience can soar above the skyline on a once in a lifetime helicopter ride. If you’ve been to Barcelona before or simply want to escape the city, head to the whitewashed village of Sitges where boutique stores line the quaint cobbled streets and beaches abound.

Barcelona

Embark on an astronaut’s adventure amidst the moonscape of this volcanic island as your lunar rover (open top jeep) winds its way through the spectacular scenery with plenty of pit stops along the way. If you’d prefer to stay by the coast, a transfer to Playa de las Americas will leave you with the whole day free to build sandcastles and play in the sea. Water babes can also dive into The Water Kingdom of Siam Park. In this Thailand themed resort, ride the slides, surf the waves or shop in the fl oating market. Loro Park has long been a favourite with families and it’s easy to see why. Famous for its performing parrots, there’s also a collection of Californian sea lions, a chilly penguinarium and an amazing dolphin and killer whale show.
