VII. Personal Statement

I have been conducting research in the area of mobile and wireless communications for a longtime. Numerous students who did research under my supervision proceeded to have academic and research careers throughout the world holding senior positions. In addition quite many are

currently in the doctoral programs in North America and Europe. Universities like Oulu, Mie- Japan, Tohoku- Japan got interested in starting partnerships with us based also on the academic strength they see in our graduates. Our main strength has been the best Masters students who went on to do PhD in different parts of the world.

To facilitate proper research I have always offered several specialized courses which naturally attract a fewer number of students. Their background is enhanced through these as evidenced by the publications resulted. I also offer several basic level courses which are quite important in

Telecommunications. The course on Signals, Systems and Stochastic Processes is generally considered by students to be difficult due to the broad coverage. My research is essentially in the performance analysis of wireless communication systems

together with resource allocation. As the 4G is currently standardized the work is now moving in the direction of beyond 4G mobile systems. It is increasingly important to keep updated through closer interaction with industry and top level research institutes. Therefore I started collaborating with the Centre for Wireless Communications, University of Oulu, Finland. We expect to bring

many mutual benefits to both institutes due to this.
