Please read this very carefully. Once you have completed your I-539 and all of the
documentation required for the application, please turn it
in to your advisor.They will then issue the I-20.
Your I-539 has 5 pages. In the following slides, you will have a chance to see what is required of each page, in depth.
Please make sure that all information you enter is correct and up-to-date! Otherwise, USCIS will request a “Request for Evidence” (RFE), that will slow down your application!

Important information: 1) Choose “b” for “A Change of Status. The new
status I am requesting is “F-1”2) Number of people included depends. If you are
on the only person changing status, then please check “a”.

Important information: As you are doing a Change of Status, you can ignore questions 1 and 4, and check “No” for questions 2 and 3.

VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you when you sign your name in the “Signature” box, that you do so in BLUE INK. They will reject applications not signed in blue ink.
Page 4Under Part 7, you can ignore this section, unlessan attorney does your application for you.
“Part 4”If you answered “yes” to question 3f on page 2, fill out the information for the first large box.
If you answered “no” to question 3g on page 2,fill out the information for the second large box.• If you are a primary (e.g. H-1B), please
provide proof of how you are being supported (check stubs,bank statements)• If you are a dependent, please show how you and/or your primary are being supported. (primary’s check stubs, bank statements)
