Transcript of Hyundai Grand i10 Review - Test Drive Report
Hyundai has designs on becoming the No 1 car-maker in India. To usurp Maruti’s throne, Hyundai knows
it has to fight in the compact segment, which is where the Grand i10 comes in. Smartly positioned
between the existing i10 and i20, the new Grand i10 will form the fifth hatchback model from Hyundai. We
drive this latest hatchback car, to give you the complete lowdown of how it performs.
Design & Engineering
For starters, the new Hyundai Grand i10 is essentially a stretched version of the all-new i10, which has
just debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on feedback from Hyundai India’s product and
marketing teams, Hyundai’s engineers in Korea modified the new i10 platform to create the Grand i10.
The Grand i10 is based on what Hyundai calls its ‘BA platform’ while the new i10 is on the ‘IA’ platform.

Interiors & Comfort
Step inside the new Grand i10, and the logically laid-out design is immediately apparent. It is a very
simply and lucid interface, and other manufacturers would do well to emulate such a design. The dual-
tone black and beige plastics are good too, with a level of quality which is better than other cars in this
sub-class, including the Maruti Ritz, Ford Figo and Honda Brio. Read More…
Performance & Handling
The Grand i10 is available with either a petrol or diesel engine. The petrol is the familiar 1.2-litre four-
cylinder Kappa motor, which also serves the i10 and i20, producing 83 PS and 114 Nm. The diesel
engine is an all-new 1,120 cc three-cylinder engine, christened U2 CRDi. Given the Indian car buyer’s
penchant for diesel, it was essential for Hyundai to launch the Grand i10 with a diesel heart. This new U2
CRDi produces 71 PS and 160 Nm, adequate given the car’s weight. Read More…
Fuel Efficiency
Hyundai claims the Grand i10 is one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its class. According to standardised
tests, the new Grand i10 managed 24 km/l with the U2 CRDi diesel engine, and 18.9 km/l with the 1.2
Kappa petrol motor. Of course, these figures will not be achievable in the real world, but neither do I
expect this car to be particularly heavy on fuel either. Read More…
Verdict
It is very rarely that a car debuts to fill a niche, albeit a substantial niche. But with the Grand i10, that is
exactly what Hyundai seeks to achieve. There’s little to fault the new Grand i10 for. I quite like the way
this car has been styled, and the interiors are very well put together for the kind of money you’re
paying. But, Read More…
