The best seat in the house may not be in the house at all, but in your 2004 Hyundai Accent. Sit back

and relax in reclining bucket seats made from special high-density foam that provides support

where you need it, and cushioning where you want it. Unlike your favorite chair, the Accent GL and

GT models have a versatile 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback that lets you stow plenty of toys, like your

snowboard. The spacious cabin is filled with useful as well as thoughtful touches. Touches such as bever-

age holders, front door map pockets, a center console with a storage compartment and coin holder, remote

hood and fuel-filler door releases, a fully carpeted interior, rotary-type climate controls and cargo area lamp.

There’s even a 4-speaker AM/FM/Cassette stereo system that goes from silent to thumpin’ in no time flat.

The Accent’s designers are almost as protective as you-know-who. They’ve included a host of safety fea-

tures such as dual front1 and front side-impact airbags — standard on every Hyundai model — and an ener-

gy-absorbing steering column. Front seatbelts are equipped with force limiters and pretensioners that reg-

ulate tension in the event of a moderate-to-severe frontal collision. In addition, the Accent’s reinforced bumpers help

absorb shock in low-speed accidents, and its unibody construction contributes to its structural integrity. Also standard

are rear child-seat tether anchors and, on the Accent GL 4-door, child-proof rear door locks. To assist you in difficult

driving situations, the power rack-and-pinion steering and power front disc brakes, together with the independent

suspension, work in unison to help keep you on track. Your dad will be so proud.

The SRS deploys in certain frontal and/or side-impactconditions where significant injury is likely. The SRS is not a substitute for seat-belts which should be worn at all times. Children under the age of 13 should berestrained securely in the rear seat. NEVER place a rear-facing child seat in thefront seat of a vehicle with a passenger-side airbag.

closer look and you’ll notice that its aerodynamic styling helps reduce drag, so the Accent is easy on the gas tank as well as the eyes. Other exterior

details include semi-flush side glass and tapered side mirrors that direct air away from the cabin for reduced wind noise. The front and rear of the Accent

are stylishly designed. On the GT model, 14" alloy wheels, fog lights and a rear spoiler make for a sportier profile. The GT interior also gets special treatment with

a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, plus sport-cloth seats. Whichever model you choose, it’ll look good on you.

While the 2004 Accent puts a premium on value, it doesn’t skimp on technology. In fact, it has the

kind of engineering you would expect from a pricier car. Under the hood, you’ll find a peppy 1.6-

liter, DOHC 4-cylinder engine for all models. This 16-valve engine, equipped with an electronic

ignition, is proven, dependable and requires minimal routine maintenance. In other words, it looks after itself
