History

Creation of Milton Pharmaceuticals in London in 1916 :

Brand named after the poet John Milton, writer of « Lost paradise »

Milton fluid was first manufactured in his London home which no longer exists

Throughout the period up to the mid 1940’s Milton Fluid was used as a general antiseptic,

disinfectant and food preservative. It was also used widely in surgical procedures by

hospitals for wounds irrigation.

First non toxic disinfectant discovered during WW1. Used in trenches to treat burns and

effects of gas and chemical attack.

Distribution100 years ago

Heritage ads show the different uses of Milton Sterilising Fluid

Widespread outbreak of Gastro-enteritis in England linked to bottle feeding. The only method available to treat bottle

and teats was to boil them for a few minutes in a saucepan. The outbreak led to 4,500 deaths of babies under 1 year

of age.

The Ministry of Health sent a call via BBC asking scientists and companies to find a solution to stop the widespread.

Milton Pharmaceutical Company developed a method of treating feeding equipment : Cold water sterilisation of bottles

and teats using Milton Fluid. Milton Method was successfully trialled at the Royal Tonbridge Wells and West Sussex

Hospital.

The Milton Method has been credited with saving many lives of babies. Milton Sterilising Fluid is still use in hospital in

Ireland, Great Britain and Australia.

History

In 2001, Laboratoire Rivadis bought Milton in over 200 countries. Since then, a large hygiene range has been

developed including an antibacterial hand gel, surfaces wipes or antibacterial surface spray to protect baby and its

family as well as professionals in hospitals.

• Parents are concerned about using normal washing up liquid that may

contain chemicals when washing baby bottles before sterilising.

• Bottles can smell strongly of washing up liquid after being washed and this

can be a concern for mums and dads.

• Cleaning a baby bottle is not always straight forward. Milk can leave a

greasy white film on the bottles and small milk residue can build up and be

STERILISATION

Milton sterilising fluid is manufactured with a high quality sodium

hypochlorite (without impurities).

The manufacturing line is entirely dedicated to Milton, and the

pipes are made from plastic. The manufacturing process allow to

get a pure and stable formula in metal ions that could destabilise

1. CLEANWash and rinse fruit & vegetables in clear cold water.

2. PREPARE SOLUTIONAdd 1 cap of Milton fluid or 1 tablet to 5 litres (dilution à 0,6% v/v) of clearcold water.

3. DISINFECTImmerse the fruit & vegetables for 15 minutes. Rinse with drinking water. Shake off excess liquid and transfer to a clean dry tray.

PREPARE SOLUTIONUse 1 cap (30 ml) of Milton fluid or 1 tablet per 50 litres of clear water. Leave for 30minutes before drinking or bathing. If the water is dirty looking, first filter and use 2caps per 50 litres of water.

Electric Steam Steriliser – Baby bottle and food Warmer

Step 1 : CLEAN

• Always pre-clean all baby feeding accessories, breast pump parts, soothers,

teething rings… in warm soapy water with baby bottle cleaner/washing up liquid.

• Make sure you separate all the parts of the baby bottle for washing.

Step 2 : Fill and load

• Fill the base with exactly 120 ml water using the measuring jar

• Place the main body of the steriliser on the base

• Load the main body with up to 5 bottles. Face the bottle neck downwards.

• Add the accessories basket at the top.

• Load teats, screwings and caps : separate the accessories well

• Put the lid on.

Step 3 : Sterilise

• Plug in the steriliser

• Press the back button on the 1 position

• Press the front button : Front light goes red, the

sterilising cycle has started.

• Light goes off : the sterilising cycle is finished.

• Switch off the back button on position 0 and unplug.

• Wash your hands, remove the accessories with the

tongs, prepare the feeds.
