II. IntroductionThankyouforpurchasingtheHYDROSTIKPROMetalHydrideCartridges.PleasereadthefollowingrespectivedocumentsbeforepreparingandusingtheHYDROSTIKPROMetalHydrideCartridges.

● Product Specification HYDROSTIK PRO for Hydrogen Storage HYDROPAKPROCartridgesdevelopedandmanufacturedbyHorizonFuelCellTechnologiesaredesignedwithanaluminumalloymaterialsenclosureandaAB2alloyforhydrogenabsorption.Afteractivation,theAB2alloyiscapableofabsorbinghydrogen,expandingandreleasingheatuntilsaturation.Theinternalpressureofthefullychargedcartridgeremainsat30Bar(435PSI)atambienttemperaturesof20˚C-25˚Candtheweightisaround0.9gramhigher.Oncethecartridgevalveisopenedandpressureisreduced,hydrogenwillbecontinuouslyreleasedfromthealloythatwillabsorbheat.Iftheheatabsorptionratedecreases,sowillthehydrogenreleaserate.Thecartridgeenclosurematerialsaremadeofanaluminumalloythathasexcellentheatconductivitypropertiesthatcanfacilitateheatconductionofthealloyduringgasabsorptionandreleaseprocesses.Gasabsorptionefficiencyofthealloycanbesignificantlyimpactedbyoxidizationduetohumidity;therefore dryhydrogengaswithapurityofnolessthan99.99%isrequiredforcharginguse.

The storage devices can supply fuel for any size hydrogen-based application - small or large,vehicular,portable,on-board or stationary.

Our storage devices hold more hydrogen than compressed hydrogen cylinders,readily accept hydrogenfrom reformers,electrolyzers and other sources,and can be used safely in moreapplications than liquidhydrogen.

III. Safety InstructionsThesafeandsuccessfuluseoftheHYDROSTIKPROandhydrogeningeneralstartswithknowingofandadheringtoappropriatestandardsandguidelinesforthedesignofthehydrogenfacilities.

● Safetyshallbeconsideredinallphasesofahydrogenfacilitylifecycle,beginningwith itsinitialdesignandcontinuingthroughitsfabrication,construction,operation,maintenance, andendingwithitsdecommissioning. ● Regardlessofquantity,allhydrogensystemsandoperationsmustbedevoidofhazards byprovidingadequateventilation,designingandoperatingtopreventleakage,and eliminatingpotentialignitionsources. ● Safetysystemsshouldbeinstalledtodetectandcounteractorcontrolthepossibleeffects ofsuchhazardsascartridgefailures,leaksandspills,collisionsduringtransportation, vaporizationsystemfailures,ignitions,firesandexplosions,clouddispersions,andthe exposureofpersonneltocryogenicorflametemperatures.Undetectedhydrogenleakscan leadtofiresandexplosions. ● Cartridges(filledwithhydrogen)shallbekeptawayfromfire,andtemperaturesabove50˚C whilefilling,storageandusing.● Themaximumoutletpressureofthepressureregulatorshouldnotexceed40Bar(580PSI)toavoid anycomplicationsorfailureswiththecartridges.● Whenusingacylindertorefilloractivatethecartridge,theinletpressurefromthecompressed cylindershouldbeatleast1.5timesthatoftheoutletpressure.

● Hydrogen Operating Procedures Operatingproceduresalongwithinstrumentationandcontrolsystemsshallbeevaluatedfortheir capacitytoprovidetherequiredsafety.Analysisorcertificationtestingshallverifyequipment performance.

IV. Requirements HYDROSTIK PRO Cartridge

● Acompressedhydrogencylinderwithpressureof150-200Bar(1276–2900PSI).● AH2pressureregulatorthatcanhandleaninputpressureofatleast200Bar (2900PSI)anddeliveroutputpressuresthatcanbeadjustedfrom10Bar (145PSI)to40Bar(580PSI).Thisregulatorshouldinclude2pressure gaugesthatcandisplaytheinputpressureandtheoutputpressure.● Male&FemaleSWAGELOK1/8”quickconnectorstypeQC4-B-200andQC4-D-200.● A40Bar(580PSI)resistanthoseassemblyconnectingtheoutputoftheregulatortothe SWAGELOKquickconnector.● Awaterbasinthatisbigenoughtoholdthecartridgeunderwaterinahorizontalposition.● Adjustablewrenches.

V. Before OperationBeforestarting theoperationprocess, regardlessofquantity, it iscrucial tocheckallhydrogensystemsonthesafetyandoperationalaspectsinordertoruleoutandexcludeanypossiblehazards,failuresorsetbacksduringtheprocess.Therefore,itishighlyrecommendedthatthewholeoperationwillbecarriedoutadequateandwillfollowallinstructionsprovidedhere.DoingsowillalsomaintainthecycleandlifetimeoftheHYDROSTIKPRO.

● Checklist before operation

● Dothelabandoperationenvironmentcomplyandconsistwithallthesafetystandards regardingtheusageofhydrogenandHYDROSTIKPRO?● Isthetrainingoftheoperatorsufficient,andistheoperatorawareanddoeshe/she understandallthesafetyaspectsregardingtheoperationoftheHYDROSTIKPRO andhydrogeningeneral?● Isthesafetyofthepersonnelatandnearthehydrogenlabtakenintoaccount,andareall emergencyproceduresclearandintelligible?● AretheHYDROSTIKPROcartridgescheckedforanytracesofdamage,deformation, leakage,orimpactofanykind?● Areallthetubeconnectionsandnutscheckedregularly,sonocontaminationofanykindwill interfereintheprocess?

VI. (Re)Filling HYDROSTIK PRO Cartridge

Thereare twooptions for (re)filling theHYDROSTIKPROMetalHydrideCartridge.How theseoperationsarecarriedoutisstatedinthisparagraph.

NotethatalldirectionsarebasedontheequipmentusedasstandardbyHorizonFuel CellTechnologies.Wecannotfeasiblycoverallinternationalvariationsofequipment, threadsanddimensionsandthereforeomitthesedetailstoreduceconfusion.Therefore wehighlyrecommendthatyoureadthroughtheinstructionswithoutputtingtheequipment togethertofamiliarizeyourselfwiththeprocessandmakesureyouhaveallthecorrect components.Itisveryimportantthattheconnectionsequipmentmatch,asanyleakageis verydangerous.

● Option I - Direct Cartridge (Re)Filling

(1) Useawrenchto(anti-clockwise)screwsecurelythedualheadedpressureregulatortothe pressurizedhydrogencylinderthatcanbeobtainedfromalocalgascompany(Fig.1&2).

(2) Againusingawrench,screwthenutonthehydrogencabletothedualheaded pressureregulatorprovided.Thenutneedstobetightenedbyturningthewrench anticlockwise(Fig.3&4).

(3) Turntheduelheadedpressureregulatorhandleanti-clockwiseuntilitistight.Makesure itisintheclosedcondition,sothatthedualpressureregulatorshowsazeroreadingon bothdials(Fig.5&6).

Inspecttheconnectionsforleaksbyapplyingsomesoapwateronallconnections. Ifyounoticebubblesappearingpleaseclosethecylindervalve,stopthe procedureandcontactyourprofessionalsuppliersfortechnicalsupport.

Alsoifthecylinder’spressureislowerthan30Bar(435PSI),stopusingthiscylinder becausethepressureistoolowtochargethecartridge.

BeforeconnectingtheHYDROSTIKPRO,turnonthedualheadedpressureregulator valveclockwiseto1Bar(14.5PSI)toreleasetheimpuregasesoutofthetube.Repeat this2-3timesforpuregasesusedinthenexthydrogenchargingprocess.

(4) Prepareaplastictubthatthemetalhydridecartridgecanlieinhorizontally,withenough water(ambienttemperature)tocoverthemetalhydridecartridge.Holdingtheotherend ofthehydrogencable,connecttheHYDROSTIKPROmetalhydridecartridgetothe cablebyturningthecartridgeclockwiseuntilitissecurelyfastenedtothecable(Fig. 7&8).

(5) PlacetheHYDROSTIKPROintothetubfullofwatersothatitlieshorizontallyunder thewater.Slowlyturnthedualheadedpressureregulatorvalveclockwise,makingsure youwatchtheleft-handedpressurereading(Fig.9&10).Whenitreaches30Bar (435PSI)allowthemetalhydridecartridgetofillforabout30minutes. Andthenturnthedualheadedpressureregulatorvalveanti-clockwiseuntilitis tighttocheckifthedialmovesslowlytowardszero.Ifthedialdoesnotmovethat meansthecartridgeisfullyfilled.Ifthedialmovesdowncontinuously,pleaseturnthe headedpressureregulatorto30Bar(435PSI)forcontinuouscharging.

(6) Turnoffthedualheadedpressureregulatoranti-clockwiseuntilitisclosed.Atthis timethelowerpressuremeterstillindicatesthepressureyouchargedthecartridge. DisconnecttheHYDROSTIKPROfromthehydrogencable.Themeterwillbebackto0 (Fig.11&12).

(7) Usethewrenchtodisconnectthehydrogencablefromthepressureregulatorandturn thehydrogensupplyoffifnotusethemanymore(Fig.13).

● Option II - SWAGELOK Refilling

(1) SeparatetheSWAGELOKquickconnectorsystemintomale(QC4-D-200)andfemale (QC4-B-200)parts(Fig.1). InsertthefinepointofthespecialHorizon-designedadaptor(Fig.2)intothemale (QC4-D-200)partoftheSWAGELOKconnector.Oncetheadaptorcomponentis positionedinsidetheSWAGELOKunit,usethewrenchtotightlyfastenthe SWAGELOKnutontotheadaptor(Fig.3).Thiswillcreateapermanentconnection betweentheadaptorandthemalepartoftheSWAGELOKunit.Oncethenutis fastened,donotattempttodisassembleit.

(2) ReassemblethefemaleandmalepartsoftheSWAGELOKunit(Fig.4&5),and connectittoyourregulator’shose.

Thishosemustberesistantto40Bar(580PSI)ofpressure.

(3) Ifyourregulatorisalreadyconnectedtoyourpressurizedhydrogencylinderand testedforleaks,godirectlytostep5. Makesurethehydrogenpressurecylindervalveontopofthecylinderistightlyclosed. Toconnectyourregulator/hoseassemblytothepressurizedhydrogencylinder, usetheadjustablewrenchtotightentheregulatorinletconnectornutontothe compressedcylinderinacounterclockwisedirection(Fig.6&7).

(4) Makesuretheregulatorinletvalveisclosed.Toclosetheregulator’svalve,turnthe regulator’sadjustingknobinthecounterclockwisedirection(Fig.8&9).

(5) Slowlyopenthecompressedcylindervalvetoobservethereadinginthehighpressure gauge(Fig.10).Thiswillindicatetheinternalpressureofthecompressedcylinder,which shouldnotbemorethan200Bar(2900PSI)(Fig.11),butabove30Bar(435PSI).

(6) Inspecttheconnectionsforleaksbyapplyingsomesoapwateronallconnections(Fig. 12&13).Ifyounoticebubblesappearingpleaseclosethecylindervalve,stoptheprocedure andcontactyourprofessionalsuppliersofthepressureregulatorand/orcompressed cylinderfortechnicalsupport.

(7) BeforeconnectingtheHYDROSTIKPROforfilling,wemustgetridofanynon-Hydrogen gasesfromthesystem.Open(clockwise)theregulator’svalveto1Bar(14.5PSI)for5secs andthenclose(counter-clockwise)itagain(Fig.14).

(8) Screw(clockwise)theHYDROSTIKPROcartridgeontotheSWAGELOK/Horizonadaptor assembly(Fig.15&16).

(9) Fillthewaterbasinwithwater(ambienttemperature).Thishelpstherefuelingprocessin twoways:

1. TohelptheabsorptionofHydrogenintothemetalhydridebykeepingthecartridge cool. 2. Tobeabletocheckforanyleakagescomingfromthecartridge,cableorconnection points. PlacetheHYDROSTIKPROconnectedtotheSWAGELOK/hoseassembly horizontallyintothewaterbasin(Fig.17).

(10) Turntheregulatoradjustmentknobslowlyintheclockwisedirectionuntilthelowpressure gaugeindicatesareadingofnomorethan1Bar(14.5PSI).Lookatthecartridgeand connectionsinthewatertoensurenobubblesareappearingunderwater.Ifyousee bubblesclosethecylindervalve,stopthisprocedure,andgobacktostep1.Ifproblems persist,pleasecontactyourprofessionalsuppliersfortechnicalsupport.

(11) Aftercompletingsteps1-10,turntheregulatorknobslowlyuntiltheoutletlowpressure gaugeindicatesthereading30Bar(435PSI).Waitfor30minutes.Pleaseensureno bubblesarereleasedinsidethewaterbasinduringthisprocess.Ifyouseebubbles,close thepressurecylindervalve,stoptheprocessandcontacttechnicalsupport.

(12) After30minutes,checkifthepressureisbelow30Bar(435PSI).Ifitis,continuethe refillingprocessuntilitreachesaconstantpressureof30Bar(435PSI),otherwiseunscrew theregulatorknob(counterclockwise)untilyoufeelitloosens.Thelowpressuregauge readingshouldremainat30Bar(435PSI).

(13) Closethecompressedcylindervalve. Removethecartridgeandallconnectionsfromthewaterbasin.Unscrewthecartridgefrom theSWAGELOKconnectorassemblyquickly.Thiswillensurethecartridgewillnotrelease muchhydrogenintotheair.


VII. Maintenance

InordertokeeptheHYDROSTIKPROMetalHydrideCartridgesintheoptimalcondition,pleasefollowthesubsequentinstructions.

DONOTtrytodisassemble,openorrepairthecartridgeswhenbrokenorwornout!

1. EmptyHYDROSTIKPROMetalHydrideCartridges: ● DONOTtrytoopenthecartridges.

● DONOTtrytorepairthecartridgeswhenwornoutorbroken. ● DONOTstorecartridgesindirectsunlight. ● Keepitawayfromfire. ● Keepinasafeplace. ● Keepinadry,coolplace. ● Keepawayfromchildren.

2. FilledHYDROSTIKPROMetalHydrideCartridges:
