C h a r m i n a r – T h e quintessence of Hyderabad. One of the most renowned historical monu-

ments of India, built in 1591 AD is a monument and a mosque built by Quli Qutb Shah in order to honor a promise made to ALLAH (SWT). The four minarets of Charminar are said to honor the first four khalifas of Islam.

Shortly after Quli Qutb Shah’s decision to shift his capital from Golkunda to what is now known as Hyderabad, the Charminar was the first monument to be constructed. According to numerous myths recorded by historical travelers, Islamic schol-ars & historians, the Charminar was actually completed by 1592 AD whereas Hyderabad City was founded in 1591 AD. According to a French traveler, Jean de Thévenot, the Charminar was built to honor the commence-ment of the second Islamic mil-lennium year (1000AH)-thus Quli Qutb Shah founded Hyderabad City in this year.

The construction of this magnifi-cent landmark had been carried out by Quli Qutb Shah accompa-nied with his Prime Minister Mir Momin Astarabadi. The mosque was also intended to serve as a madraasa. Eminent Persian architects were called upon to develop the city plan. Thus this structure illustrates Indo-Islamic style architecture while integrat-ing elements from the Persian architecture.

This impressive square monument, around which the city of Hyderabad was designed, is constructed at the intersection of the two main historical trade routes.-from Golkonda to the port city of Masulipatnam.

Standing tall over the eastern bank of the Musi River, this landmark oozes the signa-ture style of Islamic Architecture. Made of glistening pulverized marble, limestone, granite and mortar, the Charminar was so accurately planned that if you opened the gates of the fort one could get a glance of the bustling city. Legend has it that a secret, underground tunnel connects golkonda to charminar, intended as an escape route for the Qutb Shahi royal family. However, its whereabouts are unknown.

The Charminar is a four storied structure with each side measuring 20m (approx 66 feet) and each corner has an exquisitely shaped minaret equipped with a double balcony. Crowned with a bulbous dome with dainty petals like design at the bottom each minaret stands 56m tall (Approx 184 feet). Each minaret has 149 steps to allow visitors to reach the upper floor. A giant arch is seen on each side of the minaret from the plith to the summit measuring 11m wide and 20m high.

During Qutb Shahi times, the roof served as a court house, with the mosque located on the western end. The actual mosque is situated on the top floor of the four-storey structure. There are two galleries within the Charminar, one over another. Above the two galleries, there is a terrace, which acts like a roof along with a stone balcony. The main gallery of the Minaret has 45 cov-ered prayer spaces. In hte front, there is a large open space to accommodate people for Friday prayers.

Hyderabadi Muslims who migrated to Pakistan have created a small-scaled quasi replica of charminar in Karachi. The Charminar’s minarets & roof offer panoramic views of Hyderabad, The Golkonda, Lad bazaar & Mecca Masjid. The Charminar has become a signature monu-ment over the years and continues to be an iconic symbol of the city’s heritage.

“Imax? Yeah, I know of it. College bolke ghar se nikalte the lekin gaye IMAX. And why not??A maal by your arm, you watch a movie; have some food, kwality time and what not. No maal? You can still do all that and . . ahem . . politely stare at the mall/maal (whatever works for you man, nobody’s judging)”. This is what the word Imax means to most of us (atleast at some point in your life. I hope it did). And you are well within your right to do all that and more. I don’t know if you know but that is not what IMAX means. I’ll try and explain what it means and my ulterior motive for writing this article (phir nai to bekaar mein likhte yeh sab?).

IMAX is a type of film format, produced by the Canadian company IMAX Corporation. Film? Movie? Imax corporation production company hain? corporation kya? GHMC type corporation?

Forgive the pictures; I am not much for googling. But yes, I hope they can define ’film’ and

‘projection’ for you better than I can. If you know of the death of film and its hastened replace-ment with digital, than good on you man, you needn’t read this load of crap anymore. If you are a neophyte to this or sirf sallu bhai ke picturaa dekhte apan, I’ll try and summarize things for you.

Film as a medium for motion capture, i.e., movies had been slowly phased out since the 90’s with the advent of digital. This occurred in three stages of movie production

a)Reasonable quality digital cameras with greater manoeuvrability and mobility (Sony really pio-neering here) as opposed to cumbersome and heavy film cameras during the filming stage

14 HyderabadiBAATAN | May 2013

Page 15: Hyderabadi Baatan

b)Advent of the ‘digital intermediate’-basically the predecessor of your typical editing suite soft-ware- as opposed to manually cutting and gluing together film strips in the editing stage.

c) Most obviously, as film was recorded digitally, we needed digital projectors to project as opposed to film projectors.

Now the ever greedy movie studios were always going to welcome the digital revolution-produc-ing tons of film print for a single movie and shipping them to different theatres the world over is way more expensive than doing so digitally. Also, film degrades over time so the “print” isn’t the same on repeat viewings; it is of a lesser quality, unlike digital. The only people who were holding out in the 90’s were the “creative” people (directors, cinema-tographers. Not all but 99% of them). At the time the quality of digital cameras was not up to the mark. Ab poora technically explain nahin karte yahan, utna hona tho net peh dhundo .For the non-enthusiast, quality basically means resolution (amongst other things but mostly resolution). As resolution increased, especially in the mid 2000’s, a lot of filmmakers felt it was good enough to switch over, and studio zeal took over.

Haan history lesson khatam ho gaya, ab meri summary suno-• Digitalhasalreadytakenovermostpartsoftheworld.• Digitalhascomealongwaybutisn’tquiteatthequalitylevelfilmis.• Filmprojectionisslowlybecomingconfinedtoboutiquescreens(Indiamainuthnaseriousnahin hain because.. well.. INDIA. No seriously, it’s happening here as well, at a slightly slower rate.

Page 16: Hyderabadi Baatan

So what is the premiere movie going experience right now? Watching a movie in IMAX, i. e, watching a movie shot on IMAX (partially, no feature films have been completely shot on IMAX to the best of my knowledge) at a movie theatre equipped to screen IMAX (screen size and IMAX film projector).

The above picture should be self-explanatory without need for any technical specs-the strip of film is larger, much larger and captures more of the image at a higher image. So we’ve established IMAX is the greatest film format.

Lekin main to 720p ya 1080p something downlo . . . ahem . . .karidke dekhtu? Yes, those are digital resolutions. 1080p home digital releases, i. e, your… Bluray Discs that you . . . bought . . and own. . . are almost equivalent to 2K projections in a theatre.

Now, 4K cameras and projectors are probably the highest standard digital filming (cinephile trivia-arri alexa and RED epic; dusre loga lite lo), at least right now-8k cameras are on the hori-zon.

16 HyderabadiBAATAN | May 2013

Page 17: Hyderabadi Baatan

Now shooting on 4k is equivalent to shooting on 35mm. Now, with IMAX film each frame is 15 perforations wide, and the area of the frame is about 52mm high by 70mm wide — almost 9 times larger than the conventional 35mm frame. So you see what I mean when digital needs to catch up. It’ll get there, but it right now it isn’t there. So right now, IMAX is the best medium of filming, period.

Now projecting IMAX film requires special IMAX projection systems and larger screens. IMAX projection is done in two ways-True IMAX, which is what I’ve explained above or digital IMAX (dubbed Lie-MAX, clever people), where two 2K projectors are used instead of an IMAX projector.

Page 19: Hyderabadi Baatan

Itna bolne ke baad Hyderabad aata. There are a total of 697 IMAX screens on the planet (for comparison, Hyderabad alone has 77 movie theatres). Usme se sirf 99 true IMAX hain. India has 11 IMAX screens, three of which are true IMAX. Aur Ustaad, usme se apna Prasads waalah ek hain.

But I don’t know how long the IMAX screen will stand-as I’ve mentioned before, film is dying. It will sure as hell die before we do (I actually estimate we will get less than 10 films in IMAX-total- in our lifetime).

I am not trying to promote Prasads or IMAX corporation’s agenda (trust me, they didn’t pay me anything for this; not even a free ticket. Honest) but having viewed “the IMAX expe-rience” I assure you, you simply cannot have a better viewing experience, not unless there is a revolutionary technological breakthrough (and that kind of thing happens once in 20-30 years . . . or something).

And I know Rs.250 is premi-um money (or not if you are a blue blood) but next time a big movie comes out, look up if it was filmed in IMAX, and try to catch it in IMAX. You will get value for money.

HyderabadiBAATAN | May 2013 19

Page 20: Hyderabadi Baatan

Extra Titbit: Your next IMAX release is Star Trek into Darkness (again they didn’t pay me; I am not a marketing executive) on 17th May (they might change it by the time you read this-usually big budget movies are released earlier-by a week or two to three days-outside of USA)

Also, Star Trek into Darkness is the first IMAX film to be post converted into 3D (a whole different conversation, maybe later) so maybe we’ll get the best of both worlds-larger image and three dimensions.

Furthurmore, Michael “yeah-blowing stuff up-’Merica” Bay intends to use IMAX corporations’s new digital 3-d cameras to shoot certain scenes for transformers . We’ll see how that goes.

The 21st century is a good time to be alive in. Men and women are both an equal part of the workforce in any sector. The world of business has since very well known names – Indira Nooyi, Anuagha etc..Education has a host of women teachers – to name in some of the higher places of learning such as EFLU, OU, HCU and JNTU, Women who are highly respected and revered in their own areas.

Step down to where the common man plies his trade- let’s con-sider the market place, where we have women who very ably conduct their small businesses , be it vegetable or flower selling or basket and chatai weaving. In the pub-lic transport sector, we have women conductors now operating on many bus routes, conducting business quite efficiently on packed buses from morning to evening.

Despite this very heartening scenario, women are still a soft target. Look into the pages of any newspaper or magazine any given day, we come across heart rending stories of insensitive cruelty to the girl-child and women of all ages. Niether are little babies spared nor are elderly women. What happened in the days of yore happens today except that it’s not any bygone era but con-temporary times. The girl-child’s life is snuffed out before she comes into the world or soon after. The stench of kerosene and the crackling of fire amidst painful screams see another life going out, or it is a mortified existence that has seen horror and tragedy just when it had begun to live.

There is another scenario where educated women in highly respectable positions are sup-posed to serve their in-laws’ family with a bowed head obediently because she is the ‘Indian bahu’. It doesn’t matter that she is a working woman and has to leave for work. Time is of the essence-yet she still has the time to provide for them before she does anything else. On the other hand, the very honorable husband , blissfully unknown to his wife, has an affair at his work place. Yet he is an ‘honorable man’!This is the insidious “dal me kaala” that has pervaded our culture, continuously being brushed under the carpet. Something has to be done!

Everything is in the mind-so we need to become strong in the mind first. ‘Our thoughts attract the circumstanc-es that come into our lives’ says Rhonda Byrne. So one of the best ways to attract positive circumstances into our lives is to have very posi-tive and intense thoughts in our mind; thoughts of being string independent and self sustaining. This positivity moves circumstances and people in our favour to make life good.

Providence is kind – it knew that this would happen to women and so it made the female sex strong!!! Very strong from within, amongst most species in nature, it is the female that predomi-nantly cares for its young and raises them.

The first thing that women must do is feel and know that they are strong–they will be safe and secure and they must believe in it.,though a bottle of pepper spray and a handy pen knife never goes amiss! The next thing is to be assertive as opposed to being aggressive – love your-self and quietly standup for yourself when you feel that things are not what you want them to be.

Page 26: Hyderabadi Baatan

Maybe what I say next may bring forth angry outburst and clamour but I will say it none-theless – dress well and carry yourself with dignity, and if pos-sible refrain from staying out late unless necessity demands a late night (and you find your-self alone or in company of people you do not know, don’t forget the Pepper Spray!!)

We all talk of laws and the police doing their duty – yes all these are present (and needed) but first and foremost let us arm ourselves with positive confi-dence – with belief in ourselves – and have love for our own selves and our person, educat-ing ourselves and our children and becoming (rightly) eco-nomically independent too. Pass this message to each and every woman and child whom you can and transform the cir-cumstances in our lives and the world around us.

Come to Hyderabad and you will

be mesmerised by its beauty.

The city today is not the city it

was five years ago. Once you

step into Hyderabad, you will feel the chang-

es, be it the famous Shamshabad Airport

one of the world’s best airports, or the PVNR

expressway, which connects the city to the

other boundaries of the country. One of the

main hubs of the ‘silicon valley’ in India, it has

its share of boom in real estate. With a high

rise in top notch residential areas such as

“Lanco Hills”, ”PBEL City” you will feel like it is

the New York of India. You will find a car parked

outside almost most of the houses of the city,

people buying things not from our very own

“Bandiwalas” but preferring super markets

giving additional surplus taxes in the name of

“Chalta hai, bhoth accha aur zabardast qual-

ity milti bhai idhar,wo bandi walo k paas utta

accha kidhar milra aajkal”.

The local rythu bazars and kirana shops have

lost the sheen and glamour that they once

had. People throng to places like “*Bazaar”

during “*MAHA BACHAT -isse sasata aur

behatar kaha milega” but in reality they just

put up items on sale which are nearing their

“expiry” and which are not on public demand.

The newly arrived stock is not on sale (as

usual), and we happily go and empty out our

pockets in the name of Bachat.

COVER STORY

Page 31: Hyderabadi Baatan

HyderabadiBAATAN | May 2013 31

We dont mind giving

additional taxes on such

things and to big retail

outlets but we forget the

poor and the needy of our

own community in the city.

After shelling out 500 rupees

+300 Service tax inside

a mall, when we step out

and see the needy and hear

“Uperwale ke naam pe dedo

baba” we say “Nai hai chillar

bhai aage jaao”. When they

persist for the money we still

ignore them saying “Paise

nai hai bole toh samajh mei

nai ara”. We waste lots of

food saying “aabaa bhook itti

nai lagri aaj” and throw the

food away. When the poor

come to our door knocking

we say “Aage jaao aaj khana

nai pakae hamaare paas”.

We ignore the darkness

below the developing lights

of our own city, where thou-

sands of people are hungry,

in need of money, food and

essentials. If a poor man is

trying to earn money we go

and bargain things from him

saying “Ita mehenga kaiku

derein tum, kum karo paise”

Page 32: Hyderabadi Baatan

32 HyderabadiBAATAN | May 2013

Page 33: Hyderabadi Baatan

HyderabadiBAATAN | May 2013 33

but for the same thing in super

markets, we give additional money

and come out satisfied. “The rich

are becoming richer and poor are

becoming poorer”. We do not stop

cribbing about our local political

leader “iski wajah se ich itti gharibi

aagai apne paas abse yeh chor ku ek

vote nai dinge apan” but we do not

take steps to help the poor out.

It is summer and boiling hot-we

do not offer a glass of cool water

to the poor people but we don’t

mind spending money on “Aaaj kuch

toofani karte hai*”, fogetting about

the ones who are thirsty.

We forget to give clothes to the

needy and happily log onto websites

and order the new line of cloth-

ing. We forget giving clothes to the

poor saying “ek bhi kapda nai hai

merepaas” and every other week go

and shop only from “Abids”.Is this

what we call Developed Hyderabad,

where we think about only our-

selves? We are often heard saying

“Logo kane itte paise kaaa se aati ki

Kitta kharcha karre dekho”.....”Jab

dekho jab har dukaan bhariwi rehti

samajh nai aara aakhir mehngai

chalri ya phir saste din chalre” while

shopping.

Page 34: Hyderabadi Baatan

34 HyderabadiBAATAN | May 2013

We forget that if we are travelling

in cars, there is an ordinary man who

is standing there “Apne bus k intezaar

mei”. If Rs.10 ki Softy doesn’t make any

difference to you the same old Rs10 is

some body’s ticket to home. We forget

that the money we throw in the name of

tax might not mean anything to us but it

means the whole month to some.

Be the change that you want to

see in Hyderabad, help someone out

today. If you are blessed with more

money you can give a proper meal

to a person in need who has not had

some food for days; cloth a person who

doesn’t have the means to protect their

body. One deed will make a difference

to many.

Till then let us lead the city to a new

way of development.

The rushing waters of the Kadem Scenic River creates this 147 feet (45 Meters) drop at the Kuntala falls. Known for being the highest waterfall in Andhra Pradesh, the district of Adilabad is blessed with this beautiful sanctity.

Khaasiyat: Legend has it that King Dushyanth (The founder of Paurav Dynasty) fell head over heels with Shakuntala amidst the mesmerising sceneic beauty surrounding the falls, hence the water-fall was hence called “Kuntala”. The tale from the great myth where King Dushyanth is said to have fallen in love with the forest beauty refers to this region.Another popular belief amongst locals is that Shakuntala used to bathe in this very waterfall. The water cascades down two steps into the two adjacent falls.

Poori Planning:Tourists from around Andhra Pradesh marvel at this amazing wonder. It’s a ten minute walk to the waterfall from the main entrance. Monsoon and post-monsoon, the waterfall blooms with scenic greenery and gushing waters of the Kadem river. To capture the beauty of kun-tala falls, the best time to throng to the falls is between July to September.Planning a nice biryani and kebab platter filled picnic basket is well advised as this place doesn’t have good eateries. Pick up a nice family pack of chicken biryani from Paradise on your way to NH-7.

Kya Karna ... Kya Dekhna: Do bring bathing suits if you plan to get wet. Take amazing pictures under the water a la Amir Khan from the hit song ‘ Jo haal dil ka’ from the hit movie Sarfarosh.

“Dulha Thanda Nai hota...Khana Thanda Hojata....”

A famous phrase by our very own Gullu dada...it says it all..For us Hyderabadis the most important thing is “Mehmaan Nawazi”.Dawat agai ki samjho k shaam mei

kiraaak kheench hai....!!!

Hyderabad is popularly known as the land of biryani...aur dawat mei biryani nai rahi toh kaisa...!!yaha choti dawat se leke badi dawat the SHAHRUKH KHAN of every dawat is “Hyderbadi Biryani”

If you are new to Hyderabad then there is no way you can leave( but why would you want to?) without attending atleast one dawat.Every one is welcome to the dawat in Hyderabad, it doesn’t matter if you are a bazuwala, dost ka dost, dost ka bhai, door k rishtedaar ka dost, sab ki entry free hai-no one will ask you “bhai aap dulhe walon ki taraf se hai ya dulhan walo ki taraf se hai..”

The only thing people ask you here is “Bhai aap khana khaye kya??Khane ka table lagg gaya aaie khane ke lie”.Even if you do not have company, you tell your friends “Baap chal shaam mei mere door k cousin ki shaadi

hai...jaake kheench k aainge”.Be it with a gift or without a gift..Sab Jano Ku Entry Hai!

Excerpts from a talk with a mumbai wala named Sharma-“Mumbai shaadi is com-pletely different....people are invited and given food in a big plate, everyone has to eat from one big plate and it is merely a vegetable biryani with meat pieces in it. In the end, we get on piece of sweet for everyone and you cannot take more than offered. But I had the chance to visit Hyderabad for a wedding and I was really impressed by what people has to offer. A guest is treated as a king here-you are taken to the table and served so many things, not to mention unlimited non veg-etarian....!!! You have starters, main course and then the desert. That is the best part of a wedding in Hyderabad. I have never seen such hospitality any where else in my life. I always share my experience with all my friends about the dawat...!!”

The first thing people notice when they are invited to a wedding is “Dinner follows”. If they do not find it, they say “abba kon jaate utta petrol ka kharcha karke...kheench ich nai hai...!!!..”.

I get that there are players you admire, but in the footballing community, or at least the contemporary footballing community, aur Hyderabad mein to kahan club loyalty dikhate. You might think your club is doing well this season(or not so well, depending on your philosophical bent/if you support Liverpool). You might feel ‘X’ club is doing well because of an obvious ‘Y’ player. I’ll try and suggest some alter-natives for said ‘Y’ for some of the more major clubs. Don’t hate on me if your club doesn’t make the cut (aur Aston Villa ya Mallorca fans, aapku yeh sab kaiku? Dua karo same league mein rehne bolke, kaafi hain woh)

Arturo Vidal

Andrea Pirlo

Success attributed to: Gareth Bale Should be attributed to: Michael Dawson

Haan maloom bhai! Bale is the flavour of the season and he runs faster than a speeding train, but Michael Dawson has gone on from being transfer listed to club captain just on the strength of his performances. Whenever he is on the pitch, his performances have been nothing short of top quality.

Success attributed to: Falcao Should be attributed to: Koke

Comfortable anywhere in attack, the youngster (21 years old, aur aap sirf hookah maarte raho) has slotted seamlessly in Simeone’s setup and is really the creative force with the highest assists and accurate crosses per game for his club in La liga this season.

Success attributed to: Andrea Pirlo Should be attributed to: Arturo Vidal

It is extraordinarily difficult to choose between MVP , but for me Vidal just about pips Pirlo, contributing to all aspects of the game, potentially the ideal perfect player. All Juventus have to do now is pray that the money bags don’t snap him up.

Success attributed to: C.Ronaldo Should be attributed to: C. Ronaldo

I would have loved to say Sergio Ramos but he commits way too many fouls for my liking. Otherwise, he’s been top notch this season. There are far better writers than me to praise Ronaldo, so I’ll leave the waxing to them.

Success attributed to: Messi Should be attributed to: Messi

Ronaldo and Messi should have been conjoined twins. To justify my selection of Messi over any other Barca player, yeh season mein kitne goals maara dekho zaraa intranetz peh.Buss.

Success attributed to: Franck Ribery Should be attributed to: Mandzukic

Comfortable anywhere in attack, the youngster (21 years old, aur aap sirf hookah maarte raho) has slotted seamlessly in Simeone’s setup and is really the creative force with the highest assists and accurate crosses per game for his club in La liga this season.

Luis Suarez

Jurgen Klopp

Lewandowski

Gareth Bale

Michael Dawson

Success attributed to: Suarez Should be attributed to: Suarez

Whatever Liverpool have achieved (or built for next season, if goes down easier) they should whole heartedly thank Suarez. He contributes in all aspects of attack. He is extremely talented, hardworking, tenacious, professional and determined. And he has dragged Liverpool to face saving grace this season

Success attributed to: Lewandowski Should be attributed to: Jurgen Klopp

Yes, I know he is their manager. Yes, they’ve let their title slip away this season. Yes, their arch rivals Schalke did the double over them. Yet, Jurgen Klopp continues to impress as a master tactician, especially in big games. His Dortmund side are my dark horse pick for the Champions league this season, and if they do it, I’ll credit it all to this man.

Paise phekke abhi abhi team banake kya bada kam karre?jao yaaron jao baadme aao.

Jack Wilshere

Santiago Cazorla

R i c c a r d o Montolivo

Stephan El Shaarawy

Gary Cahill

Juan Mata

Success attributed to: Santiago Cazorla Should be attributed to: Jack Wilshere

Cazorla’s initial bluster was all well and good but really Wilshere is Arsenal’s heart. For a central midfielder to average 3 successful dribbles a game is astounding, especially in England. Too bad he plays for Arsenal.

Success attributed to: Shaarawy Should be attributed to: Montolivo

I’ll give credit to Shaarawy for stepping up to the plate, but really Montolivo is the teams engine room (over 2000 passes completed this season). He gloriously spreads play using cross-field passes like butter over bread.

Success attributed to: Juan Mata Should be attributed to: Gary Cahill

It’s easy to pick the spectacular Mata, or Hazard for that... Mata (Joke maara?hasu?) but really, I’d pick substance over style (not to say goals and assists are unimportant or anything like that). With Terry missing, Cahill has stepped up as the no nonsense defender unlike a certain Brazilian, with over 244 defensive contributions this season.

Pablo Zabaleta

Yaya Toure

Success attributed to: Toure Should be attributed to: Zabaleta

Again, disclosure…united fan…bias… blah blah blah. It would be easy to pick any among Tevez, Yaya Toure ,Silva or Aguero, but all of them have had a somewhat inconsistent season. The only player in the squad who has been consistent throughout has been Zabaleta, making marauding runs down the right,

Michael Carrick

Robin van

PersieSuccess attributed to: Persie Should be attributed to: Carrik

Full disclosure -I am a United fan, so if you see some sort of bias, I don’t blame you. Robin van Persie has been phenomenal this season, “the difference” to quote Mancini. But it’s Carrick who has finally come good on his footballing potential, being United’s constant. Almost completely reinventing his passing game (no backwards and sideways passes anymore, Yay!) and helping the team transition from defence to attack with ease.

LOAFER FIXATION

Page 59: Hyderabadi Baatan

HyderabadiBAATAN | May 2013 59

Drop the laces this spring as the sun drops the heat on ya. Follow the no string theory of colorful, stylish & suave loafers. Loafers go all the way from suits to chinos, from being classy to being stylish. If you are a guy “loafing” for the first time, you could choose from penny, tasseled or suede.

Note :Always team up a pair of loafers with well fitted suit socks. Make sure they are ribbed since Loafers tend to show a lot of sock, texture is a mandate.

Know your loafer What’s a Vamp ? It is the top of your shoe, the part of the shoe which starts at your toe and goes above your foot. Most loafers with low vamp make your foot look smaller

and cause your socks to ruffle.

Burnish themTo achieve the worn-in look go for Burnished loafers. Team them up with a pair of dark blue jeans, turn up the bottom and let your shoes do all the talking.

they don’t need to shine Contrary to the popular belief that suede is only meant for winters, you can wear them to add contrast to your khaki chinos or that beige suit.
