Sports Day Splendour Grade I and II
Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.

VITALITY, the Annual Sports Day of Delhi Public School, Hyderabad, Grade 1 and 2, was held on 14th
December, 2019 on the sprawling grounds of the school amidst cheers and frolicsome atmosphere. More
than 580 students of Grade 1 and 2 demonstrated their talent on the field, be it in competitive races,
vibrant drill displays or rhythmic music. The launch of ‘Fit India Movement’ by our Prime Minister Shri
Narendra Modi this year, on the occasion of National Sports Day encouraged DPS to join hands towards
this noble mission of Fit India Movement through the Sports Day.

The ceremony began with a guard of honour, a ceremonial march past, taken by the Principal of DPS
Hyderabad, Mrs. GeethaVishwanathan. The students then welcomed the audience by the beautiful
rendition – ‘We are glad, you are here’. This was followed by the welcome address by the wing in charge,
Mrs. Ruchi Gulati, making a mention of the students who brought accolades to the school in different
events and various other achievements of the school. The young Dipsites then marched confidently to the
rhythm of the drum beats, holding the bunch of colourful balloons, displaying coordination, team spirit and
discipline. The ceremonial releasing of the colourful balloons symbolized the vibrant hopes and aspirations
the school and parents have for the students.
Then unfurled the numerous fun races by the students which included the Novelty Relay Races – Hoop the
Loop, FIT India, Swift Relayers and 50 Metres sprints for both boys and girls – Fastest Feet First. The
students showcased excellent team-work, perseverance and sportsmanship spirit during these races. The
spectators were captivated by some nail biting finishes. This was followed by the prize distribution
ceremony. Next was a peppy theme song which signified the importance of sports and building
sportsmanship spirit. The students again gave the audience a musical treat by presenting the song – ‘Its
time you cheer’ followed by ‘We are one nation’, which left the audience spell-bound yet again and set the
mood in place for the upcoming drill event.
The students presented an enthralling drill display - ‘Ojas’, effectively depicting the theme of the event –
VITALITY – through the breath-taking formation of the muscle man fitness logo by the young Dipsites. The
drill display with dumbbells was exceptionally well coordinated and the spectacular formation left
everyone spellbound, appreciating the student’s poise and confidence. The event culminated with the
students presenting the vote of thanks, thanking each and everyone involved in the programme and
rendition of the National Anthem.
Parents’ Testimonial
“We want to appreciate the Sports Day conducted in the school premises this year. It was very well
organised and we did not have to wait for either the parking or the collecting of our kids after the event.
The seating arrangement was also done meticulously so that each parent could witness the performance of
their child. Thank you for keeping it simple and finishing it on time. We would like to extend our heartfelt
thanks to the teachers who had a lion’s share in the success of the event.” – Ms Subhasini(Parent of Anjali -

Sports teaches you about yourself and the world around you. It can help you develop a good character, value and habits early on in life.
The legacy of sports in DPS, Hyderabad and the Annual celebration of the Sports Day, was initiated by Ms.
RekhaAggarwala, Academic Director, Delhi Public School, Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Miyapur. The
Annual Sports Day for the academic year 2019-20 for classes III and IV, “VITALITY-A Sports Bonanza”, was
held on the 15th of December, 2019 at Delhi Public School, Hyderabad. About 600 students of Grade III and
IV demonstrated their talent on the field in various competitive races, vibrant drill display, and rhythmic
music. The aim behind holding this event was to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and fondness for
sports in children.
The ceremony began with a ceremonial Guard of Honour to Ms. GeethaVishwanathan, The Principal, Delhi
Public School, Hyderabad. The excellent rendition of the
melodious welcome song, Pratimodate, by the school choir,
enthralled the audience. This was followed by a welcome
address by the coordinator, Ms. Savitha Burra, who gave a brief
annual report about the various activities conducted at school.
Achievements in sports and games, of students, at various
levels viz. national, state, district sports meets and Inter-school
competitions in the twin city were announced.
The ceremony was inaugurated by releasing balloons, to mark
an expression of joy and hope. This was entailed by a gymnastic display. The students mesmerised the
audience with their energetic performance.
This was followed by numerous track events by the students of class III and IV. It was a delight to see the
excitement with which the students challenged themselves in a variety of races such as hurdle race,
skipping race, sprint and relay race. The merit and participation certificates to the winners were given away
by the dignitaries.

Next was the melodious theme song, Umang – the new
excitement, enchanted the spectators.
The final event of the day, was the musical drill display with lazims
and the splendid formations Urja and Lotus (involving mass student
participation) with petals. The students presented an effervescent
drill depicting energy symbol. The drill display and the formation
were well coordinated. They sprayed a riot of hue and radiance on
the field. The children, well- groomed in their red and golden
costumes were a sight to watch and admire. The enthusiastic parents,
gathered in large numbers, constantly applauded the young sports stars. The air reverberated with excitement,
pride and joy. The event ended with the rendition of the National Anthem.

Fitness is not a destination. It is a way of life.
Keeping this adage in mind and being aware of the importance of the balance between academics and
sports, the Annual Inter-House Sports Meet 2019-20 for grades IX and X was held at DPS Hyderabad on 2
December 2019 with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere. The meet was inaugurated with
the blessings of the principal, Mrs. GeethaVishwanathan. The first events of the day were the athletic
events with 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay races organized for both boys and girls. For most of the
audience, the most exciting one was the 100m in which the fastest girl and boy athlete of Classes 9 and 10
were determined (Tejas from Class 10 and Devika from Class 9). Once the races began, the air was filled
with cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes.
The prize distribution ceremony for the Inter-house sports competitions began shortly afterwards. Prizes
were given away for team sports like football, basketball and cricket as well as for individual sports like
tennis, chess, table tennis and athletics. The audience was at their enthusiastic best as they cheered for the
winners and the participants. Mrs. GeethaVishwanathan encouraged the students to pursue sports
without worrying about the judgment of others. The ceremony was concluded with the rendering of the
vote of thanks.

and its importance as a medium to generate awareness cannot be ignored. To emphasize this aspect for
the future citizens, an Inter house AD-MAD competition was organized for students of class VII on 16th of
December, 2019.
The competition was conducted in two rounds. During the first-round students of each house were asked
to create and present an advertisement on a social topic. Based on their performance, the best performing
houses were selected from each section for the next round.
For the final round, a total of eight groups participated. They were asked to create advertisement on the
following topics - ‘Fit India’, ‘Valour of Indian Army’ and ‘Make in India’. The young students came up with
wonderful ideas and captivated everyone with their creativity and presentation skill. Judges Mrs. Sarala
and Mr. Kuntal had a tough time to decide the best performances among all these spirited, humorous as
well as highly creative advertisements.
The enthusiastic participation from all the four houses was overwhelming and made this event a grand
success.

Play, generally, adds joy to the life, but specifically board game playing brings some unique health and life
improving benefits to a person’s life. It’s not an activity that should be enjoyed once in a while when you
get bored, for the best results it has to be a regular mission. Board game playing increases brain function. It
assists in practicing essential cognitive skills, such as problem solving and decision making. It helps with
social skills like communicating, sharing, taking turns, and enjoying interaction with others.
To grab students’ attention and actively engage them in such a fun filled activity, an Inter-house
Competition –Designing a Board Game was held at DPS, Hyderabad on 19 December, 2019 for Students of
Class VIII (A-H). Dipsites have proven themselves yet again by creating their own ingenious board games.
Every section was divided into four groups according to their house. (Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz)
Each house had created their own board game while others put a spin on already existent games. Most of
them showcased their talent by coming up with their own themes like Christmas Tree Spree, Bluff Master,
X-MAS Hunt, Color Maze, Treasure Hunt, Ouija board game etc. Four board games from each section were
displayed in the Green area. Students enthusiastically participated and explained the rules of their board
games. The Final winners were selected by the judges Mr. Phani Kumar (Science Dept) and Ms.Geetanjali
(Math Dept).Students were judged on the criteria of Innovative/interesting ideas, Clarity of rules and

With Christmas bells ringing and New Year approaching, it is the most wonderful time of the year.
Everyone around is in a joyful mood and excitement is in the air.
With the same spirit, ‘Field Day Out - The Christmas Carnival’ was
organised for the students of the Pre-primary wing on 24th
December, 2019. The Pre- Primary Wing was adorned with red and
green balloons and a well- decorated Christmas tree lent a festive
aura. The students and teachers were dressed in red and green
attire adding to the Christmas festivities. The students were taken
out in the field and the entire field was buzzing and filled with
sounds of cheers and laughter of the children. Several fun-filled
activities were planned to make it a very special and memorable day for the students. The bouncy
inflatable castle and
merry-go-round was the
busiest spot as it
obviously grabbed the
attention of all the
students. The next
activity was the most
awaited one was the
Cotton Candy and the children couldn’t get enough of the goodies. That wasn’t the end of it, they also

children danced to the tunes of their favourite numbers. One could easily guess from their conversations
and expressions that they had enjoyed thoroughlyand will cherish the moments for a long time to come.
Grade I and II – Nehru Zoological Park
Field trips enrich and expand the curriculum, strengthen observation
skills, increase children's knowledge in a particular subject area and
expand children's awareness of their own community. Students
might be good at reciting and remembering things but they often
don’t make the connection unless they experience it first-hand.
Such experience is provided by field trips as children are able to
connect the dots of the learning experiences with real experiences.
This was what the students of classes I and II of Delhi Public School, Hyderabad experienced when they
went to Nehru Zoological Park for the field trip, on 24th December 2019.
The purpose of this field trip was to provide
students with an educational experience
outside their everyday routine. The day
started on a peppier and exciting note. All
the students, along with their teachers and
the support staff were fully geared to start
their journey for the zoo. They enjoyed their
bus ride (to-and-fro) through the city singing
rhymes and songs. As soon as we reached our destination, all the children and the teachers had their
breakfast.
Soon after their fill, each troop of children
started exploring the animal kingdom.
While exploring, they came across various
species of animals, birds and reptiles that
are not usually seen in our surroundings.
Followed by this, everyonetook a joyous
toy train ride which took us around the zoo
park, giving the opportunity to listen different sounds of animals and birds and also see so much greenery
around us in today’s crowded world.

The field trip came to an end by 01:20 pm. Their joys knew no bound as they shared their thoughts and
experience about the trip with their friends and teachers. Overall, it was a day that was spent well giving
many wonderful memories to cherish.

At the museum students were enthralled to see the ancient daggers, cutlery, and ornaments and were visibly impressed by the intricate designs and opulence of the era gone by. They felt proud to belong to a culture which boasted of such rich heritage and unique art. more about Ramdas prison, AmbarKhana (Granary), NaginaBagh, Mosque and about different buildings
within the Fort and were filled with vigour and energy as they climbed the steps to reach the highest point
of the fort ‘BalaHissar’ from where they could witness a breathtaking g view of the whole city. It was an
enriching experience to know more about our rich culture and past.

Workshops and Seminars
The Study Circle
Study circle is an old and popular form of adult learning in the Nordic countries. The organization of study
circle is simple and straightforward. Reaping the benefits of study
circle requires a lot of preparation. This initiative of having a study
circle is the brainchild of Ms. Sruthi.Y. The voluntary and self-
motivated teachers of Delhi Public School, Hyderabad agreed upon to
meet for a study circle once a month. This meet is not only to
disseminate knowledge but also forcreating a platform to exchange
ideas, improving knowledge and skill for better planning and
execution.
A good book challenges one to think differently. Studying another
workplace’s culture broadens one’s perspective. Observing a colleague’s reaction to a text is valuable
insight for future endeavours. The book chosen to study for the academic year 2019-20 was Leverage
Leadership 2.0- Practical guide to building exceptional schools by
Paul Bambrick-Santoyo.
Leverage Leadership is a
revolutionary book written
by a revolutionary
educator. Educational
leaders from a diverse array
of schools around the world
have found unprecedented
success using the key principles detailed in Leverage Leadership, and this book is inspired — and informed
DIPSCOOP an e-magazine 40
— by their stories. As educational leaders around the world implement Leverage Leadership ideas, their
collective stories have revealed a simple framework by which the seven levers may be implemented: See It,
Name It, Do It. Expert discussion and real-life success stories prove that effective leadership is not about
innate charisma, charm, or personality—it’s about how a leader uses their time.
It methodically walks readers through seven pillars of school leadership - data-driven instruction, instructional planning, observation and feedback, professional development facilitation, school culture, staff culture and leadership teams. It thoroughly explains what to do, how to do it and why it works.
Learn the core principles of effective leadership Understand what success looks like on the ground Practice the seven levers of leadership that allow transformational growth Adopt the tools and techniques that facilitate a school wide transformation Informational, inspirational, and highly motivational, this book explores both the separate components
of success and what it looks like as a whole. The study circle was formed in the month of September and ever
since then there have been three such meetings. The groups of
teachers meet up once every month. The amount of reading is pre-
decided and teachers take turns volunteering as a facilitator and
summary reporter. Each session is thoroughly summarized and
posted on the group for further reference.
In December the teachers had the opportunity to share their
thoughts with Mr. PramodBathena, a prominent personality in the field of education.MrPramod is an Engineer by profession but chose social engineering as a career. He has worked in diverse profiles - Assistant professor in Engineering college, trainer and coach for civil services and competitive exams aspirants, leading young leadership camps, etc. Teachers had an interactive session with Mr. Pramod wherehe shared the core ideas pertaining to various fields in leverage leadership – a guide to school/ teacher leadership initiative.
The study circle on the whole has empowered the aspirant teachers and is a beacon of hope.

TATA Class Edge Workshop
Tata Class Edge conducted a Principal Leadership Programme on 7th December, 2019 at Katriya Hotel. It
was attended by about 40 participants who represented about 25 schools. Mrs Sandhya, Headmistress
Grade VIII, IX and X and Mrs Rama Ananth, Headmistress Grade V, VI and VII attended the seminar. Tata
Class Edge is a provider of learning solutions for schools based on innovative technology. Mr Sanjay
Radhakrishnan chief commercial officer of Tata Class Edge was the resource person who gave the different
insights into leadership practices. The focus of the workshop aimed at leadership challenges and
developing culture of excellence in educational institutions with the underlying principle – Even though the
rules of leadership are universal, its application is entirely contextual. The event opened the stage for
interactions around challenges in the educational landscapes. The program involved discussions on
strengthening abilities to respond to the expectations of a wide variety of stakeholders, increasing
managerial competencies of planning and prioritizing, building synergistic teams and adopting versatile
leadership style to create a conducive and effectively strong work climate.
Entire program was divided into 4 sessions: Leadership is not a title, Be The Change, Journey Of Excellence
and The Big Picture. Each session was highly interactive with healthy discussions, experiences and
instances resonating in the hall from all the participants. Ted talk with the title EVERY CHILD NEEDS A
CHAMPION was one of the main-stay of the event. There was another video on Taj attack in Mumbai (26TH
November’2008) which evoked discussion on types of leadership and the kind of employees with right kind
of attitude that must be employed for the successful running of the institutions. Different leadership styles
were discussed urging the leaders to provide functional and emotional support to the team depending on
the need. Magic eight leadership attributes of school principals’ findings were stated which were

partnership orientation, relationship orientation, being involved, nurturing talent, change agent, inspiring,
progressive mind and leaving a strong legacy. Correlation between leadership behavior of the principal in a
school and academic achievement of its students was also discussed.
The entire workshop was enriching which encouraged teamwork, visionary attitude and supported the aim
to create leaders for schools who can foster a positive climate for institutional development.
Mental Health Wellness Session for Grade VIII, XI and XII
Delhi Public School, Hyderabad conducted a mental health awareness
workshop for classes VIII, XI and XII students to help them cope with the
stress and anxiety involved with the upcoming board exams. The event was
organised by the ‘The Live Love Laugh Foundation’ (TLLLF) and conducted by
Mrs. Lalitha Pooja, a counselling psychologist. It aimed at bringing about a
deeper understanding of mental health and its various aspects.
The session commenced with a discussion on what the terms ‘health’ and
‘mental health’ meant to the students. She compared the Japanese art of Kintsugi -which involves the
repair of broken pottery by fusing with precious metals- to mental health
and healing. It focused on defining mental
health, the difference between sadness and
depression and also reiterated the
importance of reaching out for help. A
demonstrative example was put forth
wherein a student was asked to hold a
bottle with one hand and as is expected, he found it difficult after a while.
This is where when more students were invited to come and help him hold
the bottle which led to him feeling relieved of his pain. What made the
session truly effective was Ms Lalitha’s insight into the matter, and the eloquence with which she spoke.
The children too interacted with enthusiasm discussing the matter at hand with passion. Subjects like the
long-term impact of bullying and cyberbullying, difference between depression and sadness as well as the
physical meaning and symptoms of clinical depression were covered through interesting videos and power
point presentations.
The takeaway was that when we share what we’re going through with those we trust and reach out, it can
help us unburden our problems making us feel better. The students were
provided with booklets with useful information such as breathing exercises
and helplines for those who need professional help. The session provided an
outlet for the students to discuss how they feel and learn and the ways to
identify deficits in their mental well-being and take the right path to correct it.
The safe space provided also helped destigmatize mental health issues.

Inter-School Competition
“Curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” -Walt Disney
These words of the famous filmmaker were the spirit of a fun land earning event - The Power of Why, organised by Indian School of Business and Finance (ISBF), Delhi, at Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet. The event, held on Saturday, 30th November, 2019, was attended by seventeen teams comprising students of classes 11 and 12 representing ten schools of Hyderabad. Our school was represented by a team of five students from classes 11 C and D. The ISBF is affiliated to the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. The competition comprised of three events handcrafted for the students of finance, business and economics, so as to train their brain according to
simulated real- life situations. The first round was a case study of a popular airline, Jet Airways, which had started in a big way, but due to several operational and financial miscalculations, was eventually grounded. In comparison was the popular airline Indigo, whose strategy and business acumen has helped it grow from strength to strength. The teams were asked to come up with a detailed business strategy to revive Jet Airways. This involved real life application of principles of economics, business and finance learned in the class. This was followed by a round of stock market simulation - Bulls and Bears, a share trading session in scrips of fifteen companies listed in NASDAQ. This needed a thorough research on the scrips, for which material was provided a week in advance. The participants had to strategize and trade in a manner such that, their portfolio value increases as much as possible at the end of the stipulated time. To make the trading as close to reality as possible, news flashes also came from time to time making the scrip values fluctuate. The venue
went alive with action and anticipation as participants did a brisk business of buying and selling shares. The closing bell saw a look of triumph and satisfaction in the participants’ faces. The third round was a quiz based on prominent events in business and economics, which tested the participants’ knowledge of brand conception, promotion, history and latest developments. The quiz tested their knowledge and ability to decipher cryptic clues. The overall goal of the event was to show the participants a glimpse of
the business and finance world and how economic theory is applicable in real life. It kept up the excitement and involvement of the participants throughout the day. It was truly a unique experience for the students. Team DPS, Hyderabad secured fourth position in the event.

Eye-Health Camp
Delhi Public School, Hyderabad hosted an eye-health camp for its
support staff on 21st December, 2019 in the school campus. These
days, with the sharp increase in pollution and poor health care there
are a lot of people who are suffering from eye disorders such as
cataracts, poor vision, glaucoma night blindness, etc. Low level of
education is one of the biggest reasons for this. This is why it becomes
very important that somebody comes forward and make these people
aware about the importance of medical care of their eyes.
