Assistive Devices• Assistive devices are basically
helpful products that improve a person’s ability to function independently.
• They are used by people with disabilities and older adults who want to remain independent as long as possible
What is HAS:
The combination of FES(functional electrical
stimulation) and an externally powered and
controlled brace is called a hybrid assistive system (HAS).
WHAT IS FES:
• FES uses small electrical currents to stimulate the nerves that connect to the paralysed muscles.
• This causes the muscles to contract. FES can be used to stimulate nerves in the arms, legs, trunk and various body parts in order to achieve a range of functional movements.
