GOD'S COFFEE A group of alumni, highly established in their ca-reers, got to talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university Professor, now retired.

During their visit, conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in their work and lives. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite........telling them to help themselves to the coffee. When all the alumni had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said, "Notice that all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases, it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, NOT the cup, but consciously went for the best cups... and then you began eyeing each other's cups. Consider this: Life is the coffee; your job, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life. The type of cup one has does

This was passed to me in an email. I have removed all the extra you-have-to-pass-this-on-to-be-blessed nonsense. We all know that we are blessed!

The Disciples of Christ logo The chalice and St. Andrew’s Cross, symbol of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was adopted by the church’s 1971 General As-sembly. The logo is comprised of a red chalice, with the white cross of St. Andrew superimposed. The choice of a chalice (communion cup) reflects the centrality of the Lord's Supper in our worship, and our commitment to remembering that Jesus' life was given for the redemption of all. The chalice is red, which symbolizes vitality, spirit, and the sacrificial blood of Christ. The cross of St. Andrew is X-shaped, as tradition relates how Andrew did not feel worthy to be crucified on the same form of cross as Jesus. This cross is white, to represent the purity of spirit of one will-ing to follow Jesus. The Cross of St. Andrew, national cross of Scotland, fo-cuses attention on the Presbyterian roots of the Disciples. St. Andrew has been identified with the laity and with evangelism, both of which have been prominent Disciples’ emphases.

not define, nor change the quality of Life a person lives. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has pro-vided us. The happiest people do not have the best of everything. They just MAKE the best of everything. GOD BREWS THE COFFEE, not the cups... Enjoy your coffee! Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Spend time with God over your coffee.

News in the Pews Dear Friends,

I want to thank everyone for their continued prayers for Terry, Joe & me. Terry has found that this recovery is a little tougher than he’d first imagined. We are working with his doctors to resolve his anemia & to get a bet-ter handle on his diabetes & his heart disease.

These past 2 months have been a blur & a roller coaster of highs &

lows for me. I have presented my many concerns prayerfully to God & now I am listening, waiting. The si-lence can be awkward & it’s very difficult for me not to pipe up with even more commentary. But in that silence I hear the birds, even over the passing early morning traffic on Rt. 355 -their songs so loud & clear. In that silence I can hear the wind rushing through nearby trees. In that silence I can hear the water bubbling over in our fountain. In that silence I find comfort & peace.

On the Road Again: Barbara Lang traveled to Minnesota for 10 days to visit family & friends. Pat & Harry Griffith took an anniversary trip to Mackinac Island, Michigan. Phyllis & Lorenzo York traveled to Birmingham, Alabama over mother’s day weekend to see her family. They also have taken a cou-ple of trips to Virginia for graduation celebrations at UVA in Charlottes-ville & Union Theological Seminary in Richmond. Frank & Teresa Hearl had a wonderful time seeing the sights in Key West, Florida. Gin-ger Memmott is here from Sweden for daughter Magi’s graduation. We heard that Rick & Mary Lou Mas-ters will be staying with Walt & Chris Moore for a few days early this month. They’ll be in town for their grandson’s high school graduation.

Congratulations to Our Graduates: Bryce Davis, son of Robin & Jonathan Davis is graduating from Urbana High School. Bryce will be attending Frederick Community College. Sarah Duke, daughter of Bill & Sharon Duke, & granddaughter of

He is on antibiotics and will recieve a plasma trans-fusion. He will be undergoing several tests today. (5/28) He is very ill. Please keep our dear pastor and his family in your prayers.
