As part of NAIDOC Week celebra ons, Elora and Kymmie
from 5/6 Voyager, a ended a NAIDOC Public Speaking
workshop at Nowra Public School. Both girls returned to
school, full of praise for what they had learnt at the
workshop. They now have the opportunity to progress to
a public speaking compe on at Ulladulla Public School
next term. They will mentor two other students, as we
have the opportunity to enter a team of up to four
students.
Earlier this term, large sandstone rocks were placed at the
front of our school in a circular forma on. They form the
founda ons of our Stronger Smarter Circle. Class teachers
can bring their students to the circle to conduct a
Stronger Smarter discussion or a range of other outdoor
learning experiences.

Principal’s Message As the term comes to an end, the school is s ll very busy
and s ll a hive of ac vity.
NAIDOC Week 2019
Voice, Treaty and Truth Yesterday we launched our NAIDOC Week celebra ons
with dance workshops led by Vincen a High School
students from the Dhawarri Dancers. It was a rich
experience that gave our students another insight and
perspec ve into the ancient indigenous culture.
We thank Vincen a High School, for sharing this unique
cultural experience with our students. This opportunity,
one which we would like to see become a tradi on, began
last year, through the links Mrs Watson has with
Aboriginal staff at the high school. The success and
popularity of the workshops last year, meant we had no
hesita on in organising them this year. All classes from
kindergarten to year six, had the opportunity to learn
some tradi onal dance moves that tell stories from
Aboriginal culture and history.
At our special assembly to open NAIDOC Week, the
Dhawarri Dancers, did a special performance for our
students, staff and parents to much applause. Sailors
were chosen as the class to perform with the Dhawarri
Dancers. They were very honoured.
The NAIDOC Week assembly opened with Myles from 3/4
White Sands, delivering Welcome to Country in her na ve
Dhurga language. Myles is able to do ‘Welcome to
Country’ because she is ‘On Country,’ having been born
locally. This was a very special achievement for Myles
who set becoming more confident, as one of her personal
learning goals this year.
Mr Brad Williams returned for the day, to add some live
music to our NAIDOC Assembly. The students enjoyed
Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in Dhurga and the song
Red, Black and Yellow.

A dish drain divides the Stronger Smarter Circle. This
will be decorated with river rocks painted with
Indigenous symbols. As part of NAIDOC Week
celebra ons, students began pain ng the rocks under
the supervision of Larissa and student teachers. The
results are very impressive and demonstrate a range of
talents and crea vity amongst our students. Hopefully
by the end of the
week, all students
and staff will have
painted a rock.

Another posi ve link with our local high school.
On Friday we will hold another assembly at 2pm. The
focus of this assembly, is to reflect on the learning
during NAIDOC Week. A range of lessons conducted in
all classrooms, will focus on the meaning of NAIDOC
Week and Aboriginal History. Friday will also be a red,
black and yellow day. The colours of the Aboriginal flag.
This is not for a gold coin dona on.
Reports Reports were sent home yesterday. They represent
many hours of work by all teachers. It’s hard to
es mate how much me it has taken in assessment,
prepara on, wri ng, edi ng, reading, re‐wri ng and
finalisa on, before being handed in for prin ng and
distribu on. Each teacher had a buddy teacher that read
their buddies reports, before they went to their
supervisor, who read them before being sent to me.
Our aim is to present the most accurate, professional
reports that give you a really good idea about the
progress of your child, in many aspects of their
schooling. Any clarifica on of reports needed, please
contact your child’s class teacher.

LibraryNewsWeek9It makes me so proud when our students become mo vated
to act on what they know is right. I am even prouder that their
teachers support their learning and encourage students to do
the right thing and look a er our environment. This group of
students from Tapalla have formed the “Rubbish Club” and
are spending their me looking a er our beau ful school.
They said they were inspired by Ms Fox and our very own
“Plas c Pollu on Unit”
drama club. The PPU
from Year 5/6 Cur‐
rambene had some
strong messages during
their performances this
week and it is so nice to
see the students taking
ac on!
Library lending is at an all‐ me high and it is great to see so
many students exploring our collec on of fantas c books.
However, it is essen al to keep track of our books so that eve‐
ry tle is available for all students to borrow. (It is o en the
more popular tles that become overdue.) Today more gentle
reminders will go out to students who s ll have books in their
possession. With the onset of school holidays it will be great
for students to take home books to read for pleasure, so get
those overdues back so your child can con nue to borrow.
Arrangements can be made to pay for or replace books
through Mrs Clark.
At this me I would like to thank everyone who has made the
first half of the year run smoothly in the library. I have great
support from my office administrator Mrs Margaret Clark who
always keeps one step ahead of me AND runs our Book Club
most efficiently. Elisha Forde volunteers at our school three
days per week while she is comple ng her teacher support
cer fica ons. Her support in the library is a valuable asset
while she con nues to gain experience in working with stu‐
dents.
Lastly, I will be away on Long Service Leave for all of Term 3
and will be heading to the USA to be with my family, go hiking
in the Rockies, explore Yellowstone Na onal Park and the
Grand Tetons and finally relax on a cruise through the Alaskan
Inside passage. I look forward to returning in Term 4 and know
that Mrs
Ma hews
and Ms
Musson
will do a
great job in
my ab‐
sence! Mrs

Dear Parents and Carers,
Could you be an ethics teacher for Huskisson Pub-lic School?
We are seeking volunteers so that we can provide ethics classes for all the families who have request-ed it for their children. Currently there is no volun-teer teacher for the Kindergarten students enrolled in ethics classes.
Ethics teachers receive full training by Primary Eth-ics, the not-for-profit organisation approved to de-sign curriculum and training for the ethics program. Training consists of a two day workshop and short online modules. Lesson materials are provided. Suitable volunteers have an interest in children’s education and development of critical thinking skills and must be available at 12.15pm on Thursday each week.
In ethics classes, children learn how to think logi-cally, disagree respectfully and support their argu-ments with evidence, rather than act according to blind habit or peer pressure.
Children discuss topic such as:
-imagining how others feel
-how do we treat living things?
-what is laziness?
-how do we disagree in a respectful way?
-fairness
If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valu-able contribution to our school, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au or contact Gabe Hart our Ethics Coordinator on 0413 623 383.
