Welcome Back and to BBQ
What a fantas c evening shared by staff, parents and students. The weather was ideal and once again the water slide was very popular. The roll up of parents and students was very pleasing. The hardworking P&C crew who volunteered many hours before, during and a er the event cooked a delicious and tasty meal on the BBQ. The shared plates proved popular and were a perfect compliment to the evening meal. Simon from Mercier’s Coffee was kept busy serving coffees and gelatos. Teachers who were 100% in a endance all commented they thoroughly enjoyed the evening, mingling informally with the school community and sharing a fun evening with the students in their class.

3 ‐ Way Conferences
Our new format of 3 ‐ way conferences (Student, parent & teacher interviews) is well underway. Ini al feedback is posi ve. Next week I will randomly select students from all eight classes to provide feedback about how they felt about the process. We will also be asking for feedback from parents. Again we will randomly select parents from each class and ask for valued and construc ve comment. We will ring those parents selected and ask a series of ques ons. It is planned to take no more than 3 minutes.
If you have not scheduled 3 way conference with your child’s teacher I encourage you to do so.
Informa on Sessions
In conjunc on with our 3 way conferences each of the stages have been conduc ng informa on sessions to provide an overview of the year, classroom expecta ons and rou nes, the nature of learning in the classroom and the best way to communicate with the school and classroom teacher. These are almost complete and have been well received.
Year 6 Assembly
Year 6 Currambene will be the first class to host an assembly this year. They are currently studying a unit on the impact of gold on Australian Society. They are keen to showcase the work they have been studying. It promises to be very informa ve.
During the assembly we will also present badges to

Senior boys champion Oscar Svennson
The senior boys relay, consis ng of Hayden Fuller, Oscar Svennson, Taj Malmborg and Liam Bot broke a longstanding record.
Taj Malmborg broke a record in the 50m breastroke, which had stood since 1994
However, it was the team effort and spirit that really shone throughout the day. Efforts by all our swimmers ensured Huskisson Public School for the first me ever were 2018 champions.
Jeff Ward Principal and Colleague
It is with great sadness that I announce the recently re red Principal of Sanctuary Point Public School Jeff Ward passed away suddenly on Tuesday. Jeff was a friend, colleague and mentor to all Principals in the Bay and Basin Learning Community. He was greatly admired by his school community and the broader educa on community. A er 39 years of service to Public Educa on, Jeff just 4 weeks ago re red at 60 to enjoy his next phase in life. He had travel plans and grand children to enjoy. Sadly and cruelly he has been denied this well earned privilege.
On behalf of the school community of Huskisson Public School, our sincerest condolences to Jeff’s wife Ann and his children and extended family.
Library News
What a big week and weekend for our library
learners. First of all, a gigan c thanks goes to all
the families who par cipated in the Seaside Scav‐
enge on Saturday. It was a tremendous success
with 90 kilograms of rubbish collected and 98 kilo‐
grams of recyclables. Our very own Marley
Hutchence from 1 Tapalla won the Take 3 for the
Sea guessing compe on and received his prize at
morning assembly on Tuesday. It is so wonderful
to see our students taking ac on for a be er envi‐
ronment.
“We should start a zoo in the library” said one keen
learner this week. This was said in jest however, it
is not far from the truth! Over the past week we
have been hos ng a bunch of insects including
many species of spiders, a tank of jellyfish and
some snake….skins!
It has been very re‐
warding seeing the
excitement gener‐
ated amongst the
students as each
new creature is in‐
troduced! Keep the
learning alive and
keep searching for
those interes ng
creatures!
