2016 HURRICANE SEASON
THE 2016 SEASON WAS THE MOST ACTIVE SINCE 2012, WITH 15 NAMED STORMS, INCLUDING 7 HURRICANES AND 4 MAJOR HURRICANES.
HURRICANE MATTHEW
• APPROACHED S. FLORIDA AS A CATEGORY 4 STORM.
• MAYOR GIMENEZ DECLARED A LOCAL STATE OF EMERGENCY ON OCTOBER 5TH.
• FIVE EVACUATION CENTERS WERE OPENED IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AND DAE STAFF WERE ACTIVATED TO SUPPORT RELATED OPERATIONS.
• APPROXIMATELY 300+ EMPLOYEES WERE ACTIVATEDTO SUPPORT DAE OPERATIONS AS A WHOLE.

WHAT IS THE DAE PROGRAM?
CREATED TO ADDRESS PERSONNEL NEEDS FOR A MULTITUDE OF DISASTER RESPONSE & RECOVERY ACTIVITIES.
DISASTER ROLES ARE ASSIGNED TO COUNTY DEPARTMENTS, EMPLOYEES CAN NO LONGER CHOOSE THEIR OWN DISASTER ROLE.

WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTER?
• AN EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER (EOC) IS A CENTRAL LOCATION FROM WHICH LOCAL GOVERNMENTS CAN PROVIDE INTERAGENCY COORDINATION AND EXECUTIVE DECISION MAKING IN SUPPORT OF INCIDENT RESPONSE AND RECOVERY OPERATIONS.
• THE PURPOSE OF THE EOC IS TO PROVIDE A CENTRALIZED LOCATION WHERE PUBLIC SAFETY, EMERGENCY RESPONSE, AND SUPPORT AGENCIES COORDINATE PLANNING, PREPAREDNESS, AND RESPONSE ACTIVITIES.

• ANY OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE BRANCH DIRECTOR.
ACTIVATION
DAE EOC SUPPORT WILL BE ACTIVATED AT THE DIRECTION OF THE EOC STAFF PRIOR, DURING OR AFTER AN EMERGENCY EVENT.

HOURS OF OPERATION: 24 HOURS
