New Life

Toni and I recently received the news that we are going to be grandparents for the

sixth time. I believe I am a bit more excited about the news than I thought I would be. The

reason is that even though it is grandchild number six this will be the first time I’ve ever had

the opportunity to go through the anticipation of a new birth in my family.

As most of you I’m sure know my daughter Angelia was adopted when she was

three and a half years of age. That spared me from changing diapers, removed me from the

enduring “terrible twos,” and allowed me to miss potty training. When Toni and I married,

Terrell and Tonya were already established in families of their own. They along with their

spouses, Jennifer and Tracy, and their children, Chayce, Dylan, Josiah, Toben and Aiden,

adopted me.

I have already informed everyone that even though I will dote on this child and do

all in my power to spoil it rotten I will not change a diaper. What I do hope and pray is this

child will become a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. New life is always a miracle. Howev-

er, as we celebrate new life we must also understand that the care of that life is an awesome

responsibility.

Grace and peace, John

Hurricane Harvey - We have all seen the devastating effects that Hurri-cane Harvey has had on Houston and Southeast Texas. More disturbing is that this event is not over and things may deteriorate even more be-fore they improve. We keep our friends in Texas in our prayers but we are all asking at this time what more can we do on behalf of the victims of this disaster. The United Methodist Church is already at work in this area through the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Your regular giving has already paid salaries and the other overhead for this effort. Every dollar contributed will go directly to the victims of the Hur-ricane Harvey. Please join Toni and I in contributing to Hurricane Harvey relief at the link below: https://secure3.convio.net/gbgm/site/SPageNavigator/umcor_donate.html?type=1002&project=901670 Thank you and may God be with our friends in Texas

The Food2Kids Program Many children in Stephens County have little or no food from school lunch on Friday until school breakfast on Mon-day. The Food2Kids program provides weekend food for children who have been identi-fied as being food insecure by school staff. On behalf of these hungry children, we ask that you consider making a contribution to support this program. With the designa-tion of “Stephens County Food2Kids” on your donation, you can be assured that your money will stay in Stephens County. A donation of $275 or $6.88 per weekend pro-vides for one child for one school year. Call Lucy Davis for more info. 706-201-1871.
