Please continue to pray for our Rector Search:
Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on St. Peter’s Church,
and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a rector for this parish, that we
may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people
and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Peter’s Youth also headed up Lookout Mountain to partake in
our annual trip to Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights. The
journey was filled with tons of beautiful lights, tasty kettle corn,
and sugar-filled gingerbread men. Nothing like a colorful winter
wonderland to get everyone in the Christmas spirit!
Merry Christmas from St. Peter’s Youth! The annual Youth Christ-mas Party was a huge success this year. We met up at the fully decorated Youth House for some much needed decompression and fellowship time following a semester full of assignments and just before the holidays. The evening was filled with good food, great friends, Christmas cookies, and of course “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” We wish you all a wonderful holiday season! December 25—January 1: No Youth meetings or Sunday school.
St. Peter’s Youth will resume its regular schedule on Wednesday,
January 4.
If you have not volunteered to provide a meal for Wednesday night Youth meetings this upcoming year please contact Jody Davis at [email protected] or see the sign-up sheet in the Bracewell Room.

In December, dozens of Episcopal Youth gathered at Grace Epis-copal Church for Chatt-EY. This month’s meeting was Christmas-themed and filled with pajamas, tacky sweaters, breakfast for dinner, hot cocoa, and "A Charlie Brown Christmas." We were also able to partake in some silly Christmas-themed games and a Scavenger Hunt around the campus with clues and Christmas challenges at every station, including a Christmas fashion photo-booth with props and costumes. Throughout the night, a collection plate was passed around for Trinity parish in Gatlinburg, which raised more than $100 for relief efforts.
St. Peter’s will host Chatt-EY on February 12 and will also have the pleasure of hosting Bishop George Young for the evening. Volunteers are needed to cook and to act as chaperones. If you are interested, please contact Jody Davis.

A Note from the Interim Rector
Dear Parish Family,
THE EPIPHANY is the manifestation of Christ to the peoples of the earth. The winter solstice was kept on January 6th at some places during the first centuries of the Christian Era. In opposition to pagan festivals, Christians chose this day to celebrate the various manifestations, or “epiphanies,” of Jesus’ divinity. These showings of his divinity included his birth, the coming of the Magi, his baptism, and the Wedding at Cana where he miraculously changed water into wine. The day was called “The Feast of Lights.” Celebration of the Son of God replaced celebration of the sun. Baptisms were done, and a season of preparation was instituted. It was later called Advent.
The solstice was kept on December 25th by the fourth century. Jesus’ birth was cele-brated on this day in both eastern and western churches. The western church com-memorated the coming of the Magi on January 6th. The eastern church, that which we know today as the Orthodox Church, continued to celebrate the Baptism of our Lord and the Wedding at Cana on January 6th. In the east the day was called “Theophany” (manifestation of God).
The coming of the Magi is celebrated on the Feast of the Epiphany, January 6th, in our Book of Common Prayer. The Baptism of our Lord is celebrated on the First Sunday after the Epiphany. (Thanks to Don Arementrout for this Epiphany history.)
We should ask ourselves how God “manifests” Himself to us in our daily life, our parish life, our life in community. I asked the Vestry in December to think about those items that are most important to each of them as we near the arrival of our new Rector. As we think about where we have been and where St. Peter’s is going in its future, it is only through seeking Christ in each other and prayerfully asking for His leading that this Parish Church will become again all that it is meant to be. Hard times are not permanent times, for Christ is “with us” and desires that we take him into our hearts and change our world with His love. This Parish and School can be everything you hope for it to be if you allow Christ to “manifest” his love and his way. “As you did it for the least of these, you did it for me,” says Jesus, and that is the place we start.
Let St. Peter’s be a place that “manifests” Christ to our world. Let us be the star on the hill that brings out the best in each other and in those many people who will join us in this Parish renewal. It is an exciting time to be part of this Parish Church. Embrace the hope and thrill of new birth in Christ.
Faithfully, John B.
