Hunting News 3Good day fellow hunters and friends Welcome to our third hunting newsletter of the 2020 hunting

season

We are enjoying the cooler weather as winter is creeping in and we are very excited to share some more

hunting stories with you

We had the pleasure of hosting Kevin Moore and Kent Prat on the last hunt before the COVID-19

pandemic caused our international borders to close

We will also be sharing with you a touching email letter that we have received from one of our hunters that

had to leave for home earlier than expected due to the COVID-19 situation

We met Kevin Moore at the Dallas Safari Club show in 2019 when he booked his hunt for March 2020Later on he got his friend Kent Prat to join him on his childhood dream-safari We were extremely excitedto host them on their first trip to Africa

After some serious planning months of waiting and anticipation it was amazing to finally welcome Kevinand Kent for a fantastic plains game hunt

On the first day of hunting as they drove into the hunting area they were welcomed by a beautiful

giraffe bull which we believe brought them great luck

Within a few hours Kevin took down his first animal They came across this beautiful Kudu and Kevinknew that this was the trophy to take home Kevin stepped up for his first African kill and with only oneshot he got his first trophy It is not every day that you get to shoot a Kudu on the first hunting day Well done Kevin




Free State - First area where their hunt took place They hunted on a large Game Reserve of over 90 000acres

Kent made his first kill - An exceptional waterbuck bull

One of my most memorable hunts was the Waterbuck I shot We spotted him from a distance but hemoved into heavy brush before we could close in for a shot We were pretty sure we knew his location buthe wouldnt show himself So our tracker and spotter circled around the area we suspected the Waterbuckto be in got the wind to there back and moved towards the Waterbuck He caught wind of them and ranout stopping on a hill about 200 yards out for me to make the shot




Minutes after they got the Waterbuck loaded on the truck on their way to the skinning shed they spotteda spectacular Blue Wildebeest bull Kent took the shot and the wildebeest went right down Within an hour Kent took down two outstanding trophies

After a successful hunting day as they got ready to head back to camp they spotted a warthog from 500yards away Kevin sneaked up to it and took a great shot Just after Kevin shot his warthog they saw aCommon Reedbuck standing in the Lake Andre and Kent stalked it knee deep in the water and Kentmade an oustanding shot

They were hunting for Gemsbuck when they came across this magnificent Hartebeest bull It wasnt onKevins list but he couldnt let this opportunity pass by so he took the shot

He also took other species such as Blesbuck and Gemsbuck




The second lodge where they stayed on their safari

The Kudu was elusive Two and a half days to hunt a Kudu that we were after before he finally steppedout on a road four hundred yards away By the time we got to where we saw him he was gone again Wesaw him in the brush a couple more times but never got a shot at him Right before dark of my last fullday of hunting he gave me a shot that I made good on That was truly an amazing shot







Kent ended the hunt on a high note On the last morning right before they headed back to the lodge to gettheir bags packed for the airport they spotted an impressive warthog off the road In just a few minutes

they had the warthog on the ground The perfect way to end the hunt




Kevin and Kent were kind enough to send us a report on how they experienced their hunt

My first time to Africa I went for five animals and came home with eight even though our hunt was

cut short by three days due to COVID-19 Somerby Safaris made my trip as comfortable as I could

of asked for From beginning to the end I never worried about one thing while I was there They

made sure I had a blast the whole time there

my dream hunt the best if could have even been They took care of me and my friend like we were

family From the cooks to the guide it was something else and I can not thank them enough I will

be going back

I want to take a moment to thank the entire Somerby staff When the news broke early Monday morningthat South Africa was closing its boarders to US citizens it was surprising and caused panic with all of us

I was worried that I wouldnrsquot be able to get back to the US and get stranded in Africa due to the lack ofplanes and flights back to the states I will forever be grateful for the Somerby staff who stopped whatthey were doing despite the chaos and made sure my needs were met first It was very apparent that

everyone at Somerby were dealing with the affects that this had on their personal life and their businesshowever they put it aside to help me For this reason i will be forever grateful and I will never hunt with

anyone else in Africa beside Somerby Thank you When you read reviews about Somerby huntersalways comment on the service and that they leave as friends instead of clients at the conclusion of their

hunts Irsquom proud to say I can say the same after only 1 day of hunting with Somerby and no animalsharvested Although it was the shortest hunt of my life it will always be one of my most memorable due to

Somerby treating me as a friendSince we are a family we will all support and help each other including the Somerby business I will
