DESCRIPTION

Boosters are bi-directional, i.e., used as both receptor and donor in the explosive train. They areincrementally pressed with Class 6 Grade C HMX into aluminum shells.

Note: Part number printed on shell along with “Dangerous Explosive”.

TEMPERATURE RATING — 400°F/205°C for 1 hour of exposure.320°F/160°C for 50 hours of exposure.300°F/149°C for 100 hours of exposure.285°F/141°C for 200 hours of exposure.

PERFORMANCE

In today’s gun perforating operations, the Booster plays a key role in the sequential firing of multipleguns. To avoid a random failure, with its possible consequence of a partial fire or low order detonation,the critical performance parameter of the Booster, explosive density, must be rigidly controlled.

Requirements vary. One major operator specifies ±1σ (sigma) SD on all critical well operations.WTBI Boosters are manufactured to less than 0.05σ.

Sensitivity of the Booster to initiation is maintained at a high level — through proper selection ofPrimer grade HMX and pressing force — to offset field mounting difficulties, cord shrinkage withsubsequent gapping and like field problems (see Quality Control below).

QUALITY CONTROL

1) Boosters are 100% checked for explosive weight, total weight of explosive plus shell, Cord voiddimension and legible hazardous labeling.
