Codes and Conventions Voice over is a typical convention of trailers and keeps the audience's attention whilst guiding them through the proposed film plot. In this case the voice over is parts of dialogue from various characters from the actual film. Doesn't spoil what happens in the arena. The film trailers enigma is the cliffhanger of what happens to the main characters Katniss and Peta when they enter the arena, leaving the audience on a cliffhanger is another convention of trailers as it gives them a reason to watch the film. Enigma and Hooks- In this trailer it includes the events that take place in the arena, and how the relationships between the differents character unfold, because in this trailer it starts to show a possible love triangle, which appeals to a more feminine audience, whereas the action appeals to a more masculine target audience, giving the film a wider scope of appeal. However there is no Hollywood 'stars' which is a popular tool for bringing in an audience, so the film makers are relying on showcasing the plot and cinematography. 5. Unique Selling Point This film is based on the first of a trilogy of books, meaning that readers of the books will be keen to see it transformed into a film, and people who have heard of the books good reputation will be interested to see what they have been missing. Similar to the release of the first Harry Potter film, people who are not big readers and may prefer to watch films, will want to watch this film because of they will have already heard about it, but not want to read it. For example, the Harry Potter films are now very famous but many people who are big fans of the films will not have read the books. 6. Film poster The film poster shows the same colour scheme as the trailer, with the dark back ground and golden highlights focused around the film and book's logo. This similarity makes it easier to associate the two media types, resulting in successful media convergence. It also clearly identifies the two main characters, title of the film and the release date is bold and in an eye catching gold which contrasts to the dark background making it easily seen and therefore increases the chance of a larger audience going to see it's cinema release- which is the main aim of both trailer and poster alike. 7. Magazine cover Although the magazine cover doesn't have the same colour scheme as the trailer and poster, its focused around the main character who is shown in both trailer and poster, and the title is clearly shown in bold white capital letters. Both the cover and inside show the main character in a wild environment, which draws in the audience because they want to see how she survives. 8. The next trailer http://www.thehungergamesexplorer.com/gb/feature/16/ Follows the same style as the first with the colour scheme and main characters. The whistling noise at the end is in the first film trailer and film. Captions and voice overs also follow on from the first trailer. These similarities mean that its easily identifiable as the sequel to the first film, and this helps because the audience that saw the first film and enjoyed it, will want to watch the second.
