Home to the only Smithsonian Institution in the Greater Phoenix area, the Challenger Space Center of Arizona offers astronomy training and simulated space missions to delight all ages. This region is also home to Lake Pleasant, Arizona’s second largest lake. At Lake Pleasant Regional Park, there are opportunities for fi shing, camping, hiking, boating and wildlife viewing. In the spring, take the family out to Spring Training baseball games at Peoria Sports Complex and cheer the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres.

Step back into the past, and take a ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad, where you can follow the Verde River and enjoy the red rocks of the valley.

GLOBE / MIAMIKnown for its historic past, the Globe-Miami area is fi lled with interesting places to see and explore. Nestled in the Pinal Mountains, lies the Old Dominion Historic Mine Park, where your imagination can be transported back to the mine’s boom-days. Beyond the mines, examine the restored 700-year-old Salado Pueblo at the Besh-ba-Gowah Archeological Park where you can view what life was like in pre-Columbian times.

Also take advantage of more than 13 miles of hiking trails at Papago Park where you can hike or bike.

SIERRA VISTAThe region is home to Ft. Huachuca, leading in research of unmanned systems for national defense. Also as a place of nature and wildlife, the community of Sierra Vista has plenty of places to examine and discover. Garden Canyon, located within Fort Huachuca, hosts a variety of wildlife, native plant-life, brooking streams and ancient petroglyphs. Located south of Sierra Vista, the Ramsey Canyon Preserve in Hereford, is home to 15 species of hummingbirds, long-nosed bats, Chiricahua leopard frogs, black bears and more.
