Human Trafficking In China
Causes of Human Trafficking
• Gender Imbalance– Boys outnumber girls– Needed for brides and females arise
• One-Child Policy– Devised to prevent the growing number of Communists
throughout China. – Intended to limit the risk of communist threat, instead of limit the
number of members within a family. – Families abided by this law to avoid charges
Effects of Human Trafficking
• Prostitution– Because of the One Child Policy children are either aborted,
abandoned, or sold.– Many babies are sold into prostitution when they get older.
• Baby Trafficking– Southwest China there is a street called Chicken Street where it
is used to sell babies ranging in different prices.– Young baby girls are sold for $25 and boys could be sold for the
double the price.– Birth mothers see this as their lively hood.– Babies are sold to pay off debt.
Why should you care?
• Due to the One Child Policy Xiao Ai Ying had to abort her 7 month fetus because she already has a 10 year old daughter.
• Luo Yan Qua tells about how his wife was beaten and how their daughter was feeling her mother’s belly in hopes of becoming a big sister.
