Select “Basic Human Subjects – Biomedical & Social & Behavioral Focus”
Step 7A: Now it’s time to select your courses. MTU has 5 categories, however you will only need to select courses from category 1 (Human Subjects Research) for this training.

Step 7B: For question 1, select either the Biomedical Research or Social & Behavioral Researchlearner groups. Which of these two groups you select depends the focus of research you will be conducting. If you are a student and not sure which one to select, ask your faculty advisor or the PI of your research project.

Step 7C: If you have not yet completed RCR training, and plan to do human subject research on a funded government project, this is also required. Students, if you are unsure if you need RCR training, please consult with your faculty advisor or PI of the project.

Step 7D: This section pertains to research being conducted with animals. Students, unless instructed to complete this section by your faculty advisor or PI of the project, you may skip question 3.

Step 7F: Students, unless instructed to complete this section by your faculty advisor or PI of the project, you may skip question 5. Be sure to hit the “Complete Registration” button on this page.

Registration Complete! The “Main Menu” should list the courses you’ve been enrolled into based off the learner groups you selected. If you want to add additional courses or remove a course listed, you can also do that from this page, simply click on the appropriate function under “My Learner Tools”.

All faculty, staff, and students conducting research that includes the use of human participant arerequired to complete ALL “Required Modules” and required amount of “Elective Modules”. *Students conducting research with human participants as a part of a classroom assignment may be allowed to doless training, see the next slide for details.

Classroom Research: Students that are completing a study project for a classroom assignment, may complete the “Students in Research” module listed under the “Elective Modules”. This offers a basic understanding of human subject research.

*Please Note: This is only an option for work that is determined “minimal risk” or “exempt” by a human research protection personnel at MTU. Completing this modules does NOT meet human subject training requirements for human subject research being conducted as part of a dissertation, research projects for purposes other than classroom assignments, or funded projects.
After you are done with your training, you can view, print, or share your course completion record by clicking on “Course Completion History” and locating the “Completion Report” section of the course you completed.
